Question How to actually study?
Hello! I am horrible at studying. Like when I can make myself "study" it's really just briefly going over the notes I take in class and the slides and that's if I can study. Most of the time I just sit down and get distracted by whatever fiction book I'm reading or I open up Youtube and watch Law and Order. I don't want to do this anymore because I don't want to take any classes over.
I just don't know how I can make myself study and actually study greatly. Any advice would be great. If it helps, I am a biology major and my classes are Cell biology, Neurobiology, Evolution, and astrophysics meausements. I also have an ecology lab.

One of the reasons why you don’t want to study because you know the subjects will be overwhelmed and hard . Do this instead . Plan to study for just 10 min . That’s right . When 10 min is done , and if you still want to study , just keep going . If you don’t , then stop and do something else . This will make your brain to think that the task 10 min is doable to do
After a while , start increasing to 15 min as minimum and repeat the rule again
Then keep increasing ur minimum as time goes by
What u are doing here ?
“ you are slowly building up your studying habit ‘s tolerance “
Most of people fail to study for long hours because they jump straight away into it even though they haven’t done it before . This is like they try to run before they walk

I think what woudl help is to print out the material (or get physical books) and put the computer away and go soemwhere else where you can't access youtube or other tabs. Don't take any "distractions" with you and make sure they're out of your reach so you're not tempted.

I found that changing my environment helped a lot when I first started working on my study habits. I often go to study at cafe’s or school I find I procrastinate more at home. I have the same YouTube problem. I also got diagnosed with adhd and medicated but at first it did not help much until I developed better study habits. I took a class at my university on how to study because I was on academic probation, they taught me how to made study goals. 1) be as specific as possible ie what you wanna do in a 1-2 hr session 2) schedule a time 3) choose a location then review the goal. They made us schedule one session a week and write about it. It’s helped me a lot.
