Well done, that's a clear "bait and switch" and happy the site saw sense and sided with you.

WHOOOOOOOSH

0

u/Carne34 Aug 21 '26

It was satire, I wrote it the same way OP wrote it. Pea for brain couldnt see the full picture

1

u/Tumble-Titan Aug 23 '26

I got it right away lol.

u/Cjw6809494 Aug 18 '26

Yeah looking up the seller it appears they have quite a lot of cancellations and that’s never a good sign. Seems like a moderate scammer to me. They have regular thrifted or personal items they sell just fine but more collectible and pricier items they likely try to squeeze all they possibly can out of the sale including trying to skirt around the description wording but even if they outright said it was fake at the very bottom of their description, what is picture should always be what is received and generally will always find in favor of the buyer who was wronged. Only way they can get away with selling a fake is if they both had pictures of the fake and the description mentions it as fake so there’s no dishonesty in the sale. Glad you got your refund OP

82

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes refund was approved and usps delivered the item back now just have to wait 72 hours for funds to get back!

7

u/cdoublejj Aug 18 '26

good deal

40

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

I should of seen it as a red flag when she was selling a bag of unchecked jewelry in a ziplock bag from a storage auction šŸ˜‚ yea like you aint going to check it with how high the price of gold is and silver

1

u/kumliaowongg Aug 20 '26

You really have to be mentally challenged to buy an "assorted bag of totally legit and legal jewelry" from a rando, lol

46

u/NickMotionless Aug 18 '26

Dude's a piece of garbage. Contact eBay. They'll make him pay.

41

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

It was on mercari and yea i already contacted them. They took my side and refunding me.

16

u/NickMotionless Aug 18 '26

Good to hear. I figured eBay. Had this same thing happen to me in 2020 with a copy of Final Fantasy V. Guy labeled it as authentic, got to my house and it was obviously a bootleg.

4

u/AcAwesomeAndrew Aug 18 '26

My dad once bought a cart of Castlevania aria of sorrow with reviews saying they were fake and received a real one! I think maybe even some of the listing photos looked sus but he took a risk. The game is mine now

I bought a new copy of Super Mario Odyssee from an eBay seller when Amazon were out of stock. There was a slight discount, so that was all good, until the item comes down in a different language and with a damaged case. Posted it back for a refund. They claimed they didn’t receive it - I didn’t think to send it tracked. Big mistake. eBay sided with the seller and wouldn’t refund me. I explained my experience in my feedback, saying the seller is dishonest etc - the seller asked me to take it down, of course I wouldn’t. Days later, they managed to get eBay to remove my feedback.

I was so pissed about that. I bought the game from Amazon eventually, but naturally, I resent it, having basically paid like Ā£70 for it. I’ve been on eBay for 20+ years, 1000+ feedback mostly buying. Thankfully the vast majority of transactions are fine

2

u/DoomHero_1985 Aug 22 '26

I bought a pokemon card off an eBay seller recently and when I got it it was the worst fake id ever seen, kinda on me for not catching it in the pics. I emailed them and eBay immediately with photos showing what I received vs a few real cards of the same style(the card wasn’t even the right size compared to real cards.)Got my refund back almost immediately, seller never said anything to me about it but I was asked to return the card and I just never did,i didn’t want anyone else to get scammed like I did especially if they tried to go to a card show or something and get over trading it to a kid for something expensive, which unfortunately happens a lot.

61

u/Same_Arugula5443 Aug 18 '26

He will get banned. It's against their policy. I sold a reproduction on there and said it was a reproduction in the title and description sold it for $5 and they banned me.

11

u/cdoublejj Aug 18 '26

Mercari right? also thats a bit too far in my book, it's clearly stated. if it works and the price is good a i don't mind a repro

15

u/Same_Arugula5443 Aug 18 '26

Yes mercari doesn't allow any fake items even if you state its not real.

3

u/Tha_REAL_BROBS Aug 19 '26

Same with eBay

.......FAIR POINT!!!

2

u/Antoineuh Aug 19 '26

It's called counterfeiting, of course it's illegal.

22

u/KrisSilver1 Aug 18 '26

Cant guarantee authenticity but asking above market value? You're going to have to open a dispute but this really sucks man I'm sorry it happened. Ive been itching for a copy of emerald but stuff like this always puts me off it

14

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes won the dispute already i thought it was a good deal for a very clean looking emerald since they go for way more on ebay all the time.

10

u/fuckleshire Aug 18 '26

I agree that this is fucked up, but this is well below market value for Emerald.

7

u/KrisSilver1 Aug 18 '26

Ah mad. Sorry my local marketplace regularly has them for 120ish I wasn't aware they're regularly a lot more than that

9

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

What 120?!! Thats great price for how much emerald goes for right now! Very clean copies are selling for $300 with new battery!

7

u/KrisSilver1 Aug 18 '26

Euro to be clear

7

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Not bad either way

3

u/KrisSilver1 Aug 18 '26

For sure. I think locally here tends to be a lot cheaper because it's such a small market but I was very much under the impression about 150 was the norm. Was there a big price surge in the last year or two?

2

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes there has been i think even 2 years ago you could get a copy for $60 now a usa copy goes for over $200 even if it looks bad and a very good looking copy will go for $300 with a new battery

3

u/KrisSilver1 Aug 18 '26

I think you've convinced me to finally get a copy locally before everyone here catches on

3

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes you should pokemon emerald is a very good game!!

4

u/Latter_Beautiful_204 Aug 18 '26

Yeah euro cartridge are much cheaper got my near mint emerald FRA so its french only for 130 with a dead batterie. Maybe you can find and Uk version for the same price

3

u/JohnGlassOnEarth Aug 18 '26

I like to say this in a french accent in my mind. Poekemon emeraude. Lol

3

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes definitely is i had to take a gamble good thing mercari buyer protection fee is good for this.

20

u/YesNowSon Aug 18 '26

Claims to not know anything about the item but happily listing it for 175$. Insane.

14

u/stinkyhotdoghead Aug 18 '26

Right, and claiming to also have swapped the PCB from a previously broken case?......so.......she knows nothing but knew enough to get a tri-wing screwdriver and source a repro?

8

u/Kitchen-Run7189 Aug 18 '26

100% they sold it knowing it wasnt legit hoping to trick people

8

u/Tr0llzor Aug 18 '26

I just reported a post on eBay for this

7

u/PaulWetton1992 Aug 18 '26

šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

If you compare the two pictures of the back of the game, you'll see that there are a lot more lines on the motherboard. (Sorry, don't know the technical term) Look towards the bottom half of the carts in the pictures. There are thin lines packed close together that each lead to the dots near the bottom. Carts with motherboards that look a lot busier than they should be are usually fake.

2

u/R1n9M45t3r Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

Close. There are razor thin lines that lead to the top of the pin connectors in the photo of what OP received whereas there are no razor thin lines in the seller's post. That's the most noticeable difference between the motherboards in these two pictures so what OP received definitely isn't what was advertised and most certainly is fake. The seller is also trying to explain away the different looking label and lack of number stamp on the label by claiming they changed the shell/case. Can't change the motherboard, though. There are other ways to tell if a gba cart is fake that aren't pictured. Give it a quick Google/YT search. It's not that complicated so don't worry about having to sit through a long technical video. Lol

5

u/ChubbyDrip Aug 18 '26

Mercari is filled with idiots and scammers these days. I’m about to give up using their platform as I’ve dealt with this kind of BS many times now.

4

u/gibba11 Aug 18 '26

Just start the return on Mercari and they will side with you. It will force the seller to do a refund bro so no worries

4

u/RikimaruRamen Aug 18 '26

That is 100% a bait and switch. I hope Mercari gives you your money back

3

u/Beniskickbutt Aug 18 '26

People are buying emerald for $175? I think it may be time for me to sell all my pokemon games for a couple thousand.

3

u/Latter_Beautiful_204 Aug 18 '26

Bro, send the fakest of the fake emerald cartridges.

3

u/WastedTime247 Aug 18 '26

There's a saying within the watch community, about buying the seller not the item. And unfortunately that is seeping out into every other community. That is the way things seem to be going. Typically a good rule is to message the buyer and try to find out how much they know about the item before buying. If they claim to know little, unless its dirt cheap I'd avoid.

3

u/Quokka_Socks Aug 19 '26

Very deliberately scamming people and the sellers response tells me everything else.

3

u/Emotional_Honey8497 Aug 18 '26

Serious question, what's to stop you, as the buyer, from doing the same trick?

Not insinuating you did at all, it just seems like such a potentially muddy situation to deal with.

4

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

It might be possible for buyer to do that but my conscious wouldnt allow me to. Iv been done dirty other times and wont do what i dont want done to me!

4

u/AnonymousTokenus Aug 18 '26

I believe that is precisely the reason why ebay will mostly side with the buyer on such issues.

2

u/Slow-Roll6150 Aug 18 '26

You should of used PayPal as form of payment in mercari. They will give you a refund asap

2

u/Gauvstopper Aug 18 '26

This happened with me on eBay, only got a partial refund since they never said in the description that the cart was authentic. Good to know for future purchases that Mercari is more on top of rooting out fakes and refunding if someone misleads you

2

u/N-Dawggy Aug 18 '26

What a bummer.

2

u/JetsJetsJetsJetz Aug 19 '26

Nah the seller scammed you. Ebay does not allow repo cart sales. You shouldnt have accepted the partial refund,

2

u/King-Stink-Man Aug 19 '26

Mercari is tough to buy from.. I can’t believe the horrible shipping of items I get and amount of scams and stupidity from certain sellers. It’s really hard to find a good seller. They obviously were just trying to get by the 3 day period and grab $175 for a fake item glad Mercari sided with you.

2

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 19 '26

Yea i called mercari as soon as i opened the package sent them pictures, called again they reviewed it and sent me a return label and shipped it back out within like 2 hours of opening it.

2

u/blankCrossfire Aug 19 '26

I’d be pissed. Report him and get your money back. Don’t let him get away with this

2

u/Calereliya Aug 19 '26

As soon as I saw the third picture I just started laughing. Even if it wasn't a scam (yes, it was), how could anybody think they could argue those are the same things

2

u/AjarChart Aug 19 '26

Fuck off pokemon emerald is that expensive!? Damn maybe i need to look after mind a bit better

1

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 19 '26

Yes you should its the most sought after gba pokemon game.

1

u/AjarChart Aug 19 '26

Whats driving the hype for thst one specifically? It can't be just becuase its a good game šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚

1

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 19 '26

I believe because of all the glitches you can do on it since its an official nintendo/pokemon hardware duped Pokemon are recognized as legit and so are items! Thats just my idea. And overall is one of the best if not thee best Pokemon game

1

u/AjarChart Aug 19 '26

Fair enough, guess you learn something new every day, I bet the price might fall abit after that pokemon bank closes, since doping items and pokemon come abit pointless

1

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 19 '26

Yea thats true and sucks they closing that down i would have loved to one day be able to move stuff up to modern nintendo from gen 1-3. I think also might start going down since its rumored to be coming to switch 2 with ruby and sapphire version aswell

2

u/Ocha0 Aug 20 '26

Wait I have a copy...they go for this much?

2

u/Both_Establishment43 Aug 18 '26

Thank you, I just blocked herĀ

3

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes and hopefully she gets banned šŸ™šŸ»

1

u/N-Dawggy Aug 18 '26

The audacity of the seller. Lol

1

u/Fast-Watch4083 Aug 19 '26

emualtor+rom

1

u/Ok_Sorbet6639 Aug 19 '26

I can see a stamp in picture 3. Show a better picture please.

1

u/helpmefindhotdogs Aug 19 '26

I experienced a bait and switch like this and was too naive to report the seller.

I was afraid of getting negative feedback as revenge from the seller.

Is that still a thing?

1

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 19 '26

I dont think they can give you negative feedback and if they do you can always despute it

1

u/PawsAndPause- Aug 19 '26

I gave away my whole Pokemon collection to my babysitter’s son when I was like 25 all my games and cards fml šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

2

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 19 '26

Ohh shit i did something similar gave all my yugioh and Pokemon cards to a cousin growing up because he would let me play gta san andreas on his ps2.

1

u/OkBend6723 Aug 19 '26

it doesn’t look that bad

1

u/xCHOPP3Rx Aug 19 '26

I paid almost $300 for an authentic emerald at a gaming convention back in March. Battery works, unsure if it was replaced or not (probably was)

1

u/jco83 Aug 19 '26

i hope you will report the seller

1

u/SpecialAssociate2591 Aug 19 '26

This is why you always check sellers, never buy rare/expensive games without doing so

1

u/Aurey2244 Aug 19 '26

I've stopped using mercari. When they first came to be I genuinely thought this site could be one of the best places to sell and buy. More its just headaches and scamming all around. Either you'll get scammed by sellers or mercari will scam you with extra fees if you use a big box to securely ship something.

1

u/Oni-Village0960 Aug 19 '26

I just love how scammers that double down after mailing a counterfeit item and the easiest thing you can say that they mailed a fraudulent item. "Thank you for mysteriously mailing Item B after i purchased for Item A". E-commerce law be damned

1

u/Particular-Ad-2940 Aug 19 '26

Fight and get that money back heck say it doesn't even work

1

u/Isaaccam33 Aug 19 '26

This happened to me too. I found the sellers personal information and gave him a call. Got my refund.

1

u/Teesav007 Aug 21 '26

You bought a 175$ unique item only a fellow nerd would have from that profile picture expecting it to be legit? She looks like she sells sneakers for her baby daddy on Mercari.

1

u/Spaztastiq Aug 22 '26

Love how it’s always a female pleading ignorance on Mercari when they sell shit they know is fake.

1

u/hunter_rq Aug 23 '26

Another reason to record as you open your packages

1

u/RyusakiLexus Aug 23 '26

1

u/Ultracolor1 Aug 23 '26

Crazy that emerald Is worth this much. Still have mine. Does the replica not play the same? Orr

0

u/Darkhog Aug 18 '26

Cool, you've just sent back the European release (French to be specific) of Emerald which came in exactly these cartridges. They even are branded Nintendo so they're legit.

so if it has GBA embossed it's a knock off? do the knock offs at least work? i ask because if they don't work i won't care on my next purchases if the price is right

2

u/Acetes Aug 18 '26

Tough to know if it’s a full game clone until you play the entire game through

0

u/cdoublejj Aug 18 '26

...whaaat? why or how so?

2

u/Acetes Aug 18 '26

I had (may still have) a bootleg copy of super Mario land that only went through the stages of level 1 then reset back to beginning.

Also those 250 games in 1 carts usually don’t have full versions of all the games they put on them.

Quit buying from leeches. Even game stores don’t sell it for that much. If they were capable of replacing shells, then they understand what is real and fake. Selling a game for that much, especially knowing it is fake or potentially fake, is criminal

0

u/Vizzeon Aug 19 '26

fleeced

-4

u/pepeslifematters Aug 18 '26

Keep pushing to have that nigga banned and arrested for fraud

-1

u/Proxy-mo Aug 18 '26

Your first two photos are not of a legit copy of Pokemon Emarald ether. Just FYI

2

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yes they are look at that pcb

0

u/Proxy-mo Aug 18 '26

The 1st photo does not include the embossed factory code and in your 2nd photo it does not have the 4 rectangles on the back of the PCB on the left hand side

2

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

What is this then?

-4

u/caelan_mcmahon Aug 18 '26

It's this type of thing that makes me want to sell my chilhood authentic copy of emerald but tbh call me greedy but I need the price to go up a lot on these for me to sell it. $200-$300 just isn't enough money to justify getting rid of my childhood copy. Also my battery is dry so that makes the value go down somewhat already

4

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

I dont think they value will go up more itll probably stay like that since its rumored that the gen 3 Pokemon games are coming to the switch 2! Because of the great success fire red and leaf green had, but who knows the gameboy emerald is very very popular since there is alot of glitches that you can do on the official legit copy of the game

0

u/caelan_mcmahon Aug 18 '26

Is it still a rumor? I thought it was confirmed that emerald and other gen 3 games were coming to switch 2. Although it should also come to switch as well. It's literally such an easy game to run the switch can more than handle it

3

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Last i heard it was rumored but that was a few weeks ago it might have been confirmed. And i wouldnt sell my childhood copy if i were you. If i could go back 13 years i would stop myself from doing that!

1

u/caelan_mcmahon Aug 18 '26

Yeah the only thing is it just sits in my nintendo ds case doing nothing. My gameboy advance sp is missing presumed lost forever and recently my ds lite broke so I have no way to play it other than on emulation. But I also have way too many fond memories of it

3

u/SaucedGamer187 Aug 18 '26

Yea same here. You should loom on offerup theres sometimes clean sp for cheap. I bought 2 modded Sp just because i Love Pokemon gen 1-3

-2

u/toufiksouici07 Aug 18 '26

I have the authentic copy how i could show you ?

-22

u/Korachof Aug 18 '26

Why are your pictures so bad? They are dark and blurry. Tbh maybe I’m dumb or missing something, but I can’t easily see what the difference is between what they posted and what you received based on these photos.Ā

It’s not like their original photos were stellar. How could you even tell from those two photos that they took pictures of a real game?

Maybe I’m weird, but I would want better pictures from the seller before buying something like this, and I would want better pictures from the buyer before taking any of their claims seriously.Ā

14

u/Killgorrr Aug 18 '26

The pictures the buyer sent are perfect. I’m not really sure where you find issue with them.Ā

They clearly show the PCB differences between the two games. Just look at the back - the seller’s cart has two dots on the right side. The cart the buyer received does not have those dots. The color of the cart is also different.

2

u/DotMatrixHead Aug 18 '26

OP clearly got underwater version and wanted dry land version as was described. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

-2

u/PaulWetton1992 Aug 18 '26

I should have received this and got...

-4

u/Internal-Zucchini-77 Aug 18 '26

If you dont have a switch Nintendo just release Emerald Green for their anniversary with PokƩmon I believe its their 35th. You can digitally purchase it without a renewal subscription but this is the one reason why Nintendo would prefer you not buy fake cartridges.

2

u/bigmoose2491 Aug 18 '26

Nintendo released Pokemon Leaf Green on the Switch this year, not Pokemon Emerald. They are 2 different games

1

u/Dopecombatweasel Aug 25 '26

Fake game, fake nails. What else is fake?
