GTA VI Sites will have 3+ weeks to review GTA 6 with copies going out by end of Oct.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/GTA-6-review-copies-reportedly-go-out-3-weeks-before-release-date-despite-leak-risk.1424312.0.htmlNateTheHate mentioned it on ResetEra.
I'm glad they won't be rushed considering how much there is to do in the game.

Nobody is risking their career for a game that’s already been leaked like crazy over the last two months.

u/HeyEshk88 7h ago
And it’ll actually be only a few more weeks from release by the time the reviewers get their copy. So yeah, it would be extremely stupid for them to risk leaking anything

u/ProbablyFear 9h ago
Was wondering how long they would have. 3 weeks is kinda crazy. Much longer than a typical review period IIRC

u/TheSholvaJaffa 9h ago
Probably the estimated time to finish the story + side missions comfortably without rushing or speed running it

u/RocMerc 8h ago
I’m shocked tbh. Talk about a game that doesn’t need reviews to sell

10/10 before release will push some people over the edge to get it.

u/ExcitementLarge6439 7h ago
It will push me to spend that extra $20 to get the ultimate edition

It is 'free' marketing; YouTubers will post spoiler-free videos about their experience, articles will be flooding social media, etc. At the same time, if any bugs are found in the early copies, they will be patched during the main release.

May well be the defining video game. Poetic that Ocarina of time has a remake around the same time

Journalistic suicide

Yep, only reputable outlets are probably getting copies.
Leak anything and both the journalist & outlet would be blacklisted going forward.

as if that matters when there will never be a gta 7 within the lifetime of most middle aged journalists today
3
u/DAMP_ANON 8h ago
Uhm that would be the least of their problems.... They would be fired, not invited for other games from other studios, not hired by other firms, etc. Its not just "oh no rockstar no like me"
-1
u/Pigeon_Observation 8h ago
probably worth it at this point considering the genre "games" is essentially dead. This is basically the last one anyone cares about lmfao
2
u/DAMP_ANON 7h ago
Losing your job so reddit and twitter people can cheer they see more gameplay early on is worth it? They get no benefit...
Maybe this is the last ultra mainstream big budget game for a while but games are far from dead... Rockstar Games, Larian Studios, FromSoftware, CD Projekt Red, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, etc all just stop existing. We have gotten years and years of good games.
-1
u/Pigeon_Observation 7h ago
no you sell access to the highest bidder
We have gotten years and years of good games.
emphasis on HAVE
2
u/DAMP_ANON 7h ago
Sell access how? Stelling the console they were given with GTA 6 pre installed that is owned by rockstar? Moving from just leaking info or recording early which would violate legal agreements to a actual criminal charge.
Yeah we have and we will from games already announced. Again, Do you think these studios just disappear after massive hits?
1
u/Pigeon_Observation 7h ago
Depends what fingerprint exists in the footage if any as to whether it would be traceable or not.
Yeah we have and we will from games already announced. Again, Do you think these studios just disappear after massive hits?
Yes? Look at Bethesda. Naughty Dog in 2026? they still exist?

There’ll be a select few that will be given copies to review and they will likely sign an NDA or they’ll lose everything lol so yeah nothings getting leaked
1
u/WhySheHateMe 8h ago
What reputable outlet is going to risk being sued by a game developer over leaking? It would ruin their reputation in the industry.
There's also zero chance that these copies arent digitally watermarked in some way.

u/Win32error 8h ago
It tends to work fine for most games, there's not that much to be gained by leaking once you're at this stage. GTA might have heightened attention, but that also means increased scrutiny towards leaks from known and traceable sources.

u/knoeKNAME 8h ago
In order to get a review copy you must first hand over your first born child. They’re kept in a quarantine style bubble until the game comes out.
1
u/tmorrisgrey 8h ago
Anyone dumb enough to leak the game will be blackballed from journalism, find their self in court, and stuck working a dead end job still paying Rockstar

He is the most reliable leaker there is basically. Along with Jason Schreier.

Well, if any review has a slightly negative element, the groupies will have their excuse ready to go: "hOw CaN yOu CrItIcIzE, tHe GaMe Is UnFiNiShEd!?!"

Honestly not sure how you'd review a game like GTA 6. If everything is to be believed, and based on the track record of Rockstar, this thing is going to be an industry benchmark for the foreseeable future.

u/No-Sector-933 5h ago
I rlly hope ppl don’t knock points off just to be “different” or bc the game is mainstream

u/Orpheus_148 9h ago
What does R* have to gain by releasing review copies? The game is going to sell like hotcakes regardless. All I see is a risk of the game being spoiled before it's released, which technically elements of it have already been spoiled.
21
u/SpaceCaboose 9h ago
You thinking a notable number of folks won’t buy the game if some of the story is spoiled?
-5
u/Orpheus_148 9h ago
No I think they still will, but just seems like an unnecessary risk, when they don't have anything to prove.
1
u/SpaceCaboose 7h ago
Leaks/spoilers/potential bad reviews won’t hurt the games sales. However, great reviews could help. So they have nothing to lose and possibly a little to gain by doing the early reviews.
6
u/DisaffectedLShaw 9h ago
Reviewers are commonly NDA before releases, this is to get reviews out to show how big a leap the game is and for the marketing to help get general people who occasionally buy games to get GTA 6 as “the title” to buy.
2
u/ThanksContent28 9h ago
I believe they’ve changed their marketing strategy. Used to be wed get those in depth gameplay videos around now.
Seems now the plan is to show the social media guys, and have them hype it up and explain things.
IRRC, they usually would’ve released a gameplay trailer or two by now. GTA v and RDR2 did this. I think 2 for single player and one for multiplayer.
2
u/GhandisFlipFlop 8h ago
We had a 27 minute video that was pretty much all gameplay... just this time they didn't have a girl talking over it.
1
u/CptMarvel_main 8h ago
I’m sure they’d LIKE to win GOTY, and the people that vote that need to be able to play it before the cut off date

u/V-weezus 5h ago
I’m not reading any. I hate how they put reviews out early. Too much bias. It isn’t like anyone is gonna call it a disappointment and even if they do, I’ll see it in the headlines.

I’m honestly surprised they’re going out this early at all with the extra lengths Rockstar is going through to not have leaks.
