The days are getting shorter and colder (at least in the Northern Hemisphere), and this day is once again a Funeral Doom Friday. Please feel free to share what funeral-doom bands and albums you've listened to over the last week - old favorites, new releases, recent rediscovering, etc. You can also seek recommendations for bands or albums similar to a sound you like. Community, doom thyselves!

Hey all. I wanted to binge the discography of the Russian funeral doom project Dryom. 1, 2, and 3 are easy to find on Bandcamp and 4 is listed but not listenable. Anyone know anywhere else to find it? If not, I'll purchase the CD :).

Last night, I was setting up my WiFi. I named it Woods of Ypres. My neighbor asked, What's that? I have this habit of naming my WiFis and hotspots after my favorite metal bands or albums. Many bands, like Moonspell, Septicflesh, Grand Magus, Witchery, Old Man's Child, and others, have been featured before. Long story short, guys, what are your thoughts on Woods of Ypres? I discovered them very late, I think around 2017, but they are my absolute favorite among the bands I mentioned in this post. I'd like to meet other WoY fans to share the horrible fact that there will never be another WoY album.

Even though they are from TJ, Mexico…this is my favorite local San Diego band doing it right now. Abyssal crushes, catch them at Tower Bar again on November 5th.

i mean, Subaqueous does sound like it's underwater, the call of the wretched sea sounds above water but it does sound like idk like being a salior in a storm at the middle of the ocean (hunting a giant ass whale) skepticism sounds... like that you know, what other albums feel like... like the theme/cover of the album(?)

Hello and welcome to Funeral Doom Friday, where we take some time to discuss what you’ve been listening to over the last week. So use the comments below to tell us what new discoveries, recent releases, or old classics you’ve been spinning.

Asked amarok recently how it was touring with abyssal and they recommended this album.

It's Friday folks and the end (of the week) is nigh, so join us in comments here and share the funeral doom you've listened to over this last week, any discoveries you've made, or recommendations that you're looking for...

Hey ya’ll, since it’s now spooky season was hoping to add some spooky doom albums into my rotation, any suggestions?

Forget albums for a moment.

If you had to pick 10 songs that represent what funeral doom is to you, what would they be?

They can be classics, obscure tracks, newer stuff, whatever. No need to put them in order.

Here's mine:

1. Ahab - Old Thunder

2. Evoken - Where Ghosts Fall Silent

3. Shape of Despair - Monotony Fields

4. Bell Witch & Aerial Ruin - The Bastard Wind

5. Ahab - The Divinity of Oceans

6. Esoteric - Circle

7. Oromet - Better Off Alone

8. Frowning - The Sound of Abandonment

9. Atramentus - Stygian I: From Tumultuous Heavens... (Descended Forth the Ceaseless Darkness)

10. Black Wreath - Solitude Rising (Missing All Exits)

What's your 10?

I’ve known about this band for a while, and was already a fan of their sophomore from listening a few years ago. However I checked out their debut album a few days ago and have been completely obsessed. The flutes, keyboards, vocals, atmosphere, everything about it is perfect. It reminded me a bit of the later Unholy material but aside from that I’ve never heard any doom quite like it.

Would love any recommendations similar to this record. Bonus points if it has flutes 🙏.

Galder split from Dimmu Borgir about two years ago. As a big fan of Old Man's Child, I really hoped that Galder would return to OMC again and record some amazing stuff. Although he teased us with the idea, we haven't heard any of it yet. I hope the day will come soon. Meanwhile, you guys, what will you recommend for an Old Man's Child superfan to listen to?

A massive sixteen minute epic song that really sets the tone for the whole album.

It starts out with some quiet, atmospheric clean guitar parts, but then it just crushes you with these super heavy doom riffs and deep growls, making the whole thing feel pretty dark and hypnotic.

So my band Galleiria swings all over the place in terms of genre, but doom is a fundamental element in its DNA. I think the following album, while not strictly funeral, is the closest I’ve come to that style, if only because of the majority of the tempo is sloooooow. Be interested to know your thoughts.

What bands do you see as Funeral Doom Adjacent or even you still consider them Funeral Doom even though technically they aren't.

For me it's:

Battle Hag

Aversion

Ophis

Clouds

Exitium Sui

Trapped Within Burning Machinery

OK funeral doom folks, a lot of death doom bands are often close to the funeral doom tempo/sound/themes, and as one emerged from the other that's only natural is its sometimes a blurry line.

Death doom itself is a spectrum, with some bands being closer to classic death metal and others being closer to the other end of the spectrum, which in this case is essentially funeral doom.

So, as this often comes up in the comments on Funeral Doom Friday posts, - which death doom bands are or often can be close to funeral doom and would likely be appreciated by funeral doom enjoyers?

Leave your thoughts and suggestions on this in the comments!
