I was taught that the demons in the Bible are the souls of the human dead. I couldn't let that claim go, so I went back to the texts to see what they actually say.

What I found was a long demotion. The beings later feared as "demons" start out as gods in the council around the Most High, then end up on the losing side of monotheism, get renamed "daimonia" in the Greek Septuagint, and finally become the roaming spirits of dead giants in the Book of Enoch.

The book follows that path from start to finish, using the Ugaritic tablets, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and mainstream biblical scholarship. It doesn't mock faith. It's short enough to read in one evening, and the primary-source appendix lets you check every claim yourself.
