I got tired of piecing together Forsyth County news from 10 places, so I made a newsletter

Hey everyone! I run the Forsyth Flyer, a free email newsletter about what's going on in Forsyth County.
Each issue has Local news, (kept short so you can read it fast), upcoming events around the county, and local government updates.

Thousands of your neighbors already read it. It's free, and you can unsubscribe anytime. I'd also like your feedback. What local news do you wish you heard about more often?

Helping Immigrant-Owned Businesses in GA

Hi everyone! I'm a high school student from Forsyth County, and a few friends and I have started an initiative to help immigrant-owned small businesses and mom-and-pop shops with digital visibility and marketing.

We're currently looking for a restaurant to work with for our first pilot, since we had to choose a specific type of business to focus on. COVID was especially hard on smaller restaurants, and as more people rely on the internet to discover places to eat, having a strong online presence has become increasingly important. We want to help these businesses adapt and reach more customers, especially those that might not have the time or resources to focus on digital marketing themselves.

We'd be able to help with things like creating or improving a website so customers can easily find information about the restaurant, updating its Google Business listing so its hours, location, and menu are accurate, and improving its social media presence through content ideas and branding. We'd tailor the help to what each restaurant actually needs, and everything would be completely free.

We know there are a lot of small businesses that could benefit from this kind of help, but we've honestly been having a hard time finding a restaurant to work with for our pilot. If you know an immigrant-owned restaurant in Georgia that could use some help, or know someone who might be able to connect us with one, please let me know! We'd really appreciate any recommendations or introductions.

Looking to step up on styling my hair. I have salt and pepper curly hair with body. I am a guy so do not now my way around any of the saloons in cumming. Any good recommendations on someone that can turn my curls and body in my hair into something sharp?

Just moved and looking for things to do and people to meet!

I just moved to Forsyth County with my wife and daughters less than two months ago and it has been good to us so far. Now that we are settled in with the house and routines, I am really wanting to join any adult groups/leagues in the area (can be the surrounding cities). My main objective is to meet people and make some new friends.

I’m in my late 30s and love the idea of joining an adult rec sports league (any major sport is fine) or hiit type group workouts, but doesn’t have to be that. My interests are far and wide, but sports/working out seem to be universal! I work from home and am just looking for a space to get to know people. We are not seeking to a join a church, so that might be a limiting factor, but anything else is on the table!

Thanks for any and all recommendations.

Non-Competitive Baseball Leagues?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any 18+ baseball leagues in the area. I’ve been looking and can’t find anything aside from softball leagues. I’m not too good at baseball, didn’t play past freshman year of high school, but I want to get back into it since it’s a ton of fun and great exercise. Anyone know of any league like this? Thanks

💗FCAS Senior Shelter Pup Looking for Her Happily Ever After💗

Meet FCAS foster Amy! 💖 This 7yo, 60lb (looks smaller, she’s muscular!) shepherd mix girl is certified BFF material! 👯‍♀️ She’s been our easiest foster thus far and has been such a polite, happy houseguest. She’s incredibly affectionate, will lean in for hugs, and loves to stand and put her paws on your shoulders if you’re seated eye level with her. 🥹 She makes the cutest little grunting noises when she snuggles and her head tilt game is STRONG! 😆

She may technically be a senior (suspect she may be a bit younger), but she’s still got plenty of pep in her step! She’s super playful, loves fetch, and has a blast running around the yard and playing with our resident Shepsky. 🐾 She also settles quickly, sleeps through the night, LOVES to cuddle, and doesn’t show signs of separation anxiety (only short-lived protest whines and quickly gives up 😆). All in all, 10/10 good girl! 🥰

✅ Potty trained - no accidents! 🤞🏽
✅ Leash trained - pulls, but manageable
✅ Crate trained
✅ Non-destructive
✅ Dog friendly
✅ Excellent temperament
✅ Knows commands - sit, stay, shake (both paws)
✅ Good recall
✅ Treat/food motivated
✅ Non-reactive (treats, toys, food, etc)
✅ Easily handled
✅ Easy to bathe/dry/brush/trim nails
✅ Spayed
✅ HW negative

Amy’s kryptonite? Cats. 😩 She’s shown pretty strong prey drive with our senior kitty, so she would do best in a feline-free home. 🐈‍⬛

We also don’t know how she does with kids, but I imagine the only issue might be that she can get excited and could accidentally cause little children to topple over. 😅

She has an Embark DNA test in progress, so curious to see what her breed mix is…👀

Amy is currently being fostered in Kennesaw, GA and available for adoption through LifeLine Animal Project Fulton County Animal Services. Click the link below to schedule a meet & greet with her or feel free to message me! 👋🏽

Animal-Based Job Opportunities

Hello!

I am looking for a new job and was wondering if there were any animal-based opportunities in or around Forsyth County. I have a certification for animal caretaking from a program I did in Missouri at Cub Creek Science Camp, as well as personal experience with a wide variety of animals -- including avians and aquatic creatures.

I do not have an education in animal grooming, but I am a very fast learner and would love to be able to develop skills that I do not currently have. I am very open to new information and opportunities!

I also have a background in customer service; previously being a barista, I've obtained skills surrounding positive customer interactions, situation de-escalation, memorization, and active learning with the arrival of new recipes and corporate policies in order to ensure consistency and health & safety practices. My other job was being a customer service representative, which included tasks such as processing returns, problem-solving customers' issues, answering phone calls, branding items on the salesfloor, basic understanding of planograms, and cooperating effectively with management and coworkers.

I am currently attending college for a Bachelor of Science degree, and want to work with animals in the future, which is a big reason as to why I want to work with them now. I have a genuine passion and would love to be a part of a team and/or company that reflects that same interest.

I am putting in applications for the closest pet stores, but I would love to support a more-so ethical, local shop before a bigger chain. If you or anyone you know is looking to hire for any positions relating to animals, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you so much.

Looking for a robotics engineering position for my girlfriend

My girlfriend is looking for a job in the Macon,Warner Robins, Central GA area. She has a degree in Robotics Engineering and is trying to find something where she can actually put her degree and skills to use.

She’s open to different types of positions, especially anything related to robotics, engineering, manufacturing, automation, or similar fields.

If anyone knows of companies hiring around Macon or Warner Robins, or has any leads, I’d really appreciate it. Feel free to comment or message me. Thanks!

Water and Sewer Costs

Has anyone else noticed a big change in their water/sewer bill? I am in the Forsyth county portion of Alpharetta and my bill was on average $60-80/month, hovering art around $78 lately on average. Last month it jumped to $100 and this month it jumped to $120. No significant changes in the household.
