PSA 🗣️ I'm convinced that I bought counterfeit Happy Baby formula. Where do I go from here?

Post image
257 Upvotes

UPDATE- Happy Family Organics just called me and asked me a lot of questions. No matter what's going on, I'm glad they're taking this so seriously!

Does anyone else use Happy Baby formula? I've gotten two cans of the A2 milk formula in the past few weeks that I'm convinced are fake. One was purchased at Whole Foods and the other was shipped online from Walmart.

I got a can at Whole Foods on 9/24 and noticed it looked a little different than normal- I assumed they had done a package redesign and brushed it off. The next day, my 5 month old started to get diarrhea. He's had diarrhea nonstop since then and developed a horrible diaper rash. We went to the pediatrician and they assumed it was just a virus but it continued to get worse as time went on.

A few days ago I started to wonder if Happy Baby had changed ingredients when they did the packaging redesign. My baby is super sensitive and got diarrhea from a few other formulas we tried before we found Happy Baby A2. In a panic, I messaged Happy Baby on Instagram and they informed me that they hadn't changed anything at all and wanted to investigate this!! After comparing the potentially counterfeit can with another can I had, I started to notice subtle differences in the writing on the cans. I'll attach some photos for proof. The biggest difference for me is that I know Happy Baby uses organic palm oil- the potentially counterfeit can says "no palm oil." The potentially counterfeit one also has removed all mentions of "patents" and scientific language.

My question is, where do I go from here?! I'm completely freaked out. If these cans of formula aren't authentic then what was he drinking?! Who should I report this to?

Advice / Question 💡 Ready to feed vs Powder question

this might be a silly question, but I’ve been offering ready to feed formula until ~2 months and recently switched to powder. I mix it with distilled water. is the ready to feed stuff thicker? the powder formula bottles seem watery. yes, I make it with water…but should it be the same consistency as the ready to feed? I’m paranoid I haven’t been measuring it correctly but I did check and double check each time I’m doing it right. worth asking other experienced parents.

Discussion 💬 Does you baby take consistent amount of formula or are they rando?

My 9week baby is very consistent in wanting to eat every two hours like a clockwork (except during the night) but it can be anything between 2oz and 5oz. I think I throw away at least 30% of formula I make ha ha. Is it normal or should he be more consistent? I have no luck trying to stretch the time between feeds (and to be honest this is not a battle I am willing to fight?).

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Nutramigen?

Waiting to hear back from our pediatrician, but I think my 4 week old may have CMPI. She is on her 4th formula. We started with similac rtf that the hospital provided, then switched her to kirkland procare. She had major GI discomfort, so peds suggested to try the gentle version. We were on that for 2 weeks and it made her reflux worse. About 10 days ago, we switched to bubs goat formula and while initially it seemed better, our baby's fussiness and discomfort is now horrible. She is super gassy but struggles to get it out, is incredibly fussy (screams right after passing gas), and spits up almost every feed. It isn't a lot, but more than before. I've also noticed a ton of little bumps across her forehead which I figured was normal, but with her other symptoms I'm starting to question that. Some nights she sleeps well and others she won't sleep unless she is held.

We give her gas drops every feed, as well as a daily probiotic and her prescribed famotidine. She also is helf upright for 10-20 minutes after every feed. We have done all the movements and tricks to help relieve stomach discomfort and they don't help.

Do we think it's worth it to just give nutramigen a shot? My baby seems SO unhappy and uncomfortable 😭 I just want to find a formula that brings my baby some relief.

(And I know most answers will say to talk to her doctor but it's 8pm and I have a can of nutramigen now and am feeling the urge to just make a bottle and see what happens because I am desperate)

CMPA / CMPI / MSPI Nutramigen has helped my baby SO much

My baby is 11 weeks old and I feel terrible that it took this long for me to figure out what was wrong. For weeks now he was inconsolable, never napped during the day, would projectile vomit to the point I could hear it splash if it hit the floor, he always had gas pains and would strain to fart or push and then cry in pain. People said it was just colic and he would improve, but things just kept getting worse and felt like they were escalating with the amount of discomfort and pain he was in

I started combing through every Reddit post I could find over the last week to see if anyone had gone through what I was going through with our little guy. I landed on CMPA and reflux. I had always suspected reflux but I am a FTM and did not know about hypoallergenic formula. Well, I went and purchased Nutramigen on Monday morning and after 3 bottles…he was already improving. It’s now been 4 days and he is a different baby. He has also started reflux meds as well, but the formula was the first change and everyone noticed a difference.

If anyone has positive experiences about Nutramigen with their babies and that it was the right fit as a formula, please share! It’s been an exhausting journey to get here and I just need some hope that he will continue to feel better and that this formula all of a sudden won’t work.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Nipple Size Change causing issues?

3 month old baby used to cry mid feed and took 1 hour to finish 3 oz bottles- used to just stop feeding in between and sleep.

So we changed the nipple size to 2 ( dr brown bottles), but now screams a lot during mid feed. ( just been a day)

Should we just go back to size 1? And initial fussiness had nothing to do with size 1?

Advice / Question 💡 bottle aversion

hi, i hope someone here has had or is having the same experience as me because i feel like im going crazy.

my LO was born small at 5 lbs 5 oz. her pediatrician was really happy with her weight gain during her first and second month appointments because she had almost doubled her birth weight.at her 1-month appointment, she weighed 8 lbs 1.6 oz. at 2 months, she was 9 lbs 0.9 oz. at her 3-month appointment, she was 10 lbs 1.6 oz, and now, at 4 months, she weighs 10 lbs 6.6 oz.

even before her pediatrician referred us to OT, i already had a feeling in my heart that my baby had developed bottle aversion. ive tried following rowena bennett’s recommendations religiously, and i would say they worked for a few days. now, im starting to wonder if her pacifier could be contributing to the problem. my LO LOVES her pacifier. whenever she cries or shows hunger cues, she NEVER wants to take her bottle first. i usually end up giving her the pacifier, and then i offer her bottle afterward. she would willingly take it after i started following rowena bennett’s methods, but now i feel like im back to square one and have to start the whole process all over again.
my question is, do you think i should stop giving her the pacifier? is this the right time to wean her off it, or could taking it away make things worse?
im also switching her formula from kendamil to enfacare because her pediatrician recommended a higher-calorie formula to help with her weight gain. im feeling overwhelmed and honestly dont know what to do anymore.
has anyone experienced something similar with their LO? did stopping the pacifier help with bottle aversion, or did you find another solution? i would really appreciate any advice or experiences. thank you!

Advice / Question 💡 FTM help.

Hi ladies, I have a two weeker that came home Tuesday night after being in NICU since born. I got a few extra enfamil nueropro liquid from the hospital before leaving, I used that to feed my baby on Tuesday night and most of yesterday. Last night I sent my husband to Walmart to buy enfamil nueropro but in powder instead of the liquid. He also bought two gallons of baby water. My baby was drinking 90ml every three hours when he was on the liquid enfamil but now that I switched to the powder he only drinks 60ml every three hours. He seems to not enjoy the switch. Last night he brought up one feeding and today he brought up his afternoon feeding. I’m so stressed out because I’m so concerned and don’t know if this is normal and I just have to give him time to adjust to the powder formula. He has an appointment on Saturday to see his doctor for the first time, which he’ll be 3 weeks by Saturday. Anyways, I’m hoping someone can tell me if they’ve gone through this or something similar and what worked for your baby ?

Advice / Question 💡 Supportive lactation consultants near Silver Spring, MD

Hi all! Can anyone suggest a lactation consultant who can help / coach with bottle feeding? There’s nothing medically wrong with the baby’s latch or sucking, but partner and I simply cannot seem to get him to eat well. He’s on fortified feeding and is under a pediatrician’s care. It’s really impacting our mental health to see our baby refusing the bottle.

We had one lactation consultant come in from the Greater Washington Breastfeeding Institute and it was such a horrible experience. She made us feel terrible about ourselves. We need a warm and supportive coach.

How anyone noticed their formula recently changed? My 9 month old has had an upset stomach off and on for a week and a half and I noticed the can was different on the last two cans but can’t find anything about it being different..

Advice / Question 💡 Switching my 6-week-old to HiPP HA after 2 weeks on Kendamil Goat

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice and experiences from parents who have used HiPP HA, especially the ready-to-feed version.

My daughter is 6 weeks old, and we’ve been dealing with frequent, soft stools and a pretty severe diaper rash that’s been difficult to heal. She has multiple large bowel movements a day, sometimes with a few smears in between, and her bottom has developed raw, open areas. We’re currently treating the rash with nystatin and a barrier cream, but it’s been a struggle to get it to heal because she keeps pooping.

For some background, we initially supplemented with Enfamil NeuroPro Gentlease before transitioning to Kendamil Goat. She’s now been on Kendamil Goat for almost 2 weeks. Her stools are yellow and mushy with some consistency, but they’re still frequent. I’m not sure whether this is just normal for her age or whether her formula could be contributing.

There is also a family history of cow’s milk protein allergy, so I’ve been wondering whether we should try a hypoallergenic formula. My pediatrician previously mentioned Alimentum or Pepticate, but I’m now considering HiPP HA because I’ve seen that it has a ready-to-feed option, which would be much more convenient.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has used HiPP HA, particularly the ready-to-feed version:

  • Did your baby’s stool frequency or consistency change after switching?
  • Did it help with persistent diaper rash caused by frequent bowel movements?
  • Did you notice improvements in gas, fussiness, reflux, or mucus in the stool?
  • How did your baby tolerate the transition from goat milk formula to HiPP HA?
  • Did you choose HiPP HA over Alimentum or Pepticate? If so, why?
  • For those who used the ready-to-feed version, did you find it convenient and easy to use?

I know every baby is different, and I’m planning to discuss the options with our pediatrician before making a change. I’m just hoping to hear some real-life experiences from parents who’ve been in a similar situation.

Advice / Question 💡 Nighttime gas I can’t cope anymore

Baby is on anti reflux milk. We’ve tried normal formula again and she spits it up.

We’ve improved her latch but still has problems with reflux.

Strangely if she has a ready to feed bottle, she keeps that down.

She has tummy issues EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, between 3-5am she is constantly drawing legs up, moaning, crying, screaming. In the end I come downstairs with her.

I then read anti reflux milk takes longer to digest and with her not moving much at night as it’s always 2 hours after her last feed (between 1:30/2:30am) it lines up perfectly how it’s in the lower intestine and causing issues.

So I wondered if I gave her a ready to feed bottle at night seeing as she keeps it down and it’s easier to digest. Maybe it could work 😭

Last night was THE WORSE night ever. It’s the second night using the ready to feed at night but it was totally different from the first night.

From 5am yesterday morning to bedtime 7:30pm she had drank a total of 31oz! I really thought she might sleep through the night with having so many calories within a 14hour period.

WRONG!

She was up at 11:30, I fed her 4oz of the ready to feed by 11:50.

SHE DID NOT BURP! I was still trying to burp her at 12:30, nothing.

Patting her back, rubbing her back, circling movements, lying her flat and then lifting, one shoulder to another, gently jiggling, bicycle legs, rotating hips. I did it all! She wasn’t burping.

Then from 1:30-4am! She screamed the house down. SCREAMED SCREAMED SCREAMED.

I feel like no matter what I try, she’s got baddddd gas! When she has anti reflux milk she burps, I don’t ever have a problem getting burps out of her except from last night. However even when I do get burps and she has anti reflux milk she STILL has bad gas. She’s 19 weeks now and I’ve not slept from about 3am every single night because of how bad her gas is.

I don’t even know why I’m writing this on here, I feel like I need to get all my frustration down into words.

Formula Recommendations / Alternatives 🌱 Kendamil or HIPP?

hello!

i gave birth 7weeks ago to a baby at 36+2 to a 5.2 pound baby and he is now almost almost 10 pounds.

i am currently combo feeding with enfamil neuropro RTF but will be switching from enfamil due to it having corn syrup solids (husband is against, has mild granola takes)

currently i am debating between kendamil organic, kendamil classic and hipp durch combiotic once i switch to powder (am going to wean off completely before switching formulas).

I would like people's experiences if theyve tried these formulas, especially for a gassy baby that has reflux every feed but is otherwise a happy spitter.

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Tongue/lip tie

So I had previously posted my son’s latch and also a video of him being fussy at the bottle. We had switched to lansinoh bottles which I think have helped but there’s still a bottle or 2 a day where he seems to struggle at the bottle to eat. Today we had his one month checkup and I told his pediatrician what was going on and he checked & said he has a lip AND tongue tie which I kind of had a feeling. He said he can refer us to an ENT but he’s not too concerned since he’s gaining weight fine. (12lbs at one month lol) I also have an appointment with a lactation consultant today to see if they can help maybe? But I guess I wanted to hear other people who’s had a similar situation. I should also mention he seems like he’s on the fussier side I would say. My first son was definitely a very chill baby and hardly ever cried but this one seems to cry/fuss a lot more and seems uncomfortable which maybe is cause from the tongue/lip tie ? Or maybe it’s just his temperament I’m not sure. This is just giving me anxiety because I’m not sure what to do or expect. Any advice is appreciated thank you!

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Dr brown #3 nipple is ut too soon fir 13 weeker?

Lo has been using #- since birth, #2 since 7-8 weeks old and recently he has gotten frustrated at the bottle and started leaving 1 oz. He still takes roughly 10-15 mins per feed so i didnt think he needs to change. However the past few feedings he would start sucking, got frustrated and cry but I leave the bottle still and he would bring himself back to settle and drink it.

Is it too soon for a 3 months old? Any explanation for his weird behavior?

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Brezza question

For those who do both — when do you use the Brezza vs. when do you use the pitcher?

EFF and we have been doing the pitcher method since LO was born (he’s 6 weeks now), pouring bottles in advance so we can just pop one in the warmer. We were gifted a Brezza which is still in the box.

I figure we should at least try it since we have it. Are there times when you find the Brezza is more convenient than the pitcher? (TBH I hate the idea of cleaning it constantly, so I can see it being more trouble than it’s worth…)

Combination Feeding! 🍼+🤱 New to Comb Feeding

7 months PP and baby has been EBF with occasional bottles when i’m at work. My supply has took a huge dip so i have to start combo feeding with formula. We are on kendamil Goat which baby has taken pretty well. First day was monday and baby had a bit of refusal but she seems to be warming up to it. I did notice that she has had diarrhea since starting. I’ve been doing half formula and half breast milk since i only pump 2oz. She nurses strictly at night.

Should i stop the formula? It’s only been a few days so idk if i should just keep going even if she has diarrhea.

She shows no signs of dehydration. Cries with tears and everything.

Support Needed / Guilt Related 🧸 Feeding advice

My nearly 10 weeks old has always taken between 3-4oz every 3-4 hours and then can sleep overnight from 12-5/6. She’s taking between 600-700ml in a 24 hr period but her weight gain is sooo slow. She was born 6 15 in August 8 and is now 8.8. The health visitor is wanting her to be weighed weekly and on calorie SMA milk to her weight up. I’m very stressed and feel like a bad mum because my baby isn’t putting on weight quick enough and I see other babies her age or younger who are on more oz and gaining weight steadily.
