Discussion Weekly Discussion & Questions Thread | Ask Your Questions Here!

Welcome to the /r/FleshandBloodTCG Weekly Discussion & Questions Thread

This is a place where you can ask any and all questions relating to Flesh & Blood, including:

  • Rules clarifications,
  • deck advice,
  • play opinions,
  • and other quick questions that might not warrant their own post.

Asking for advice

You're much more likely to get good and personalized recommendations if you take the time to format a well-written ask. For example, "I'm new to FaB -- I'm a former MtG player, and I always played aggro red burn decks; which hero would you recommend?" is a better question than, "Which hero should I choose?"

Add brackets around your cards

Help people identify your questions, comments, or concerns by placing the names of cards between double brackets. (e.g., "How many copies of [[Scar for a Scar]] should I run in my deck?") /u/FaBFetcher will reply with links to the relevant cards.

Additional resources

The #FleshandBlood wiki contains lots of helpful information, including an article on how to play FaB online and an FAQ.

Question Can FaB be played on a budget

Hey everyone, my lgs has a very active FaB community and their energy makes me interested in the game. I’ve seen online that it’s also one of, if not the best competitive tcg today. My question though is can FaB be played on a budget (like €50-€100 or a bit above) since I’m still a college student who doesn’t have the means to spend a lot on some decks. My lgs says that every week there is a different format ā€œEvery week is different with a variety of formats like Constructed, Draft, Sealed, Crack / Shuffle / Play, Casual Newcomer days and more!ā€ For your info.

Question Returning player

Hey folks! I was looking at coming back to the game, and was curious on what cards I should start picking up for assassin and ranger as they were my preferred classes last time. I was thinking in a few weeks after pro quest is over might be a good time to try picking up staples again.

Discussion Noob who doesn't know nothing

Hey y'all just wanted to ask, what is the banish zone? Is it outside of the normal zones? Also, how does one get more hero cards (silver age). Do you have to pay for the pre-con to get em or can you pull them in a booster?

Discussion I used to hate FaB art and character design but since I started to play the game it is weirdly growing on me... It don't get it.

I discovered TCG with YuGiOh and I payed a fair bit digitally. It is only later that I understood how Magic The Gathering fathered the entire genre. But I was really done with the formula.
Ay time I tried a new TCG physical or digital ones there was an excitement at the beginning then quickly everything fell into boredom. Various cards with dry instruction about stat modifications and flipping cards from various positions on the board. Nothing was thematic.

Hearthstone, Legend of Runneterra...all the same. Gwent had some great variation but still. Not enough theme, many bland instructions.

I gave up and only came back to the genre with SWU. I like the Star wars license and it was easy for me to just be happy by following the evolution of the game, the meta and the sets. Plus, not only the cleverly streamlined the MtG formule but they really brought thematic gameplay with every sets(spaceships, underworlds, spies, jedi ligh saber...). But I am still not alkways feeling like the character when I play the card. Jedi, sith, smugglers, pilots... Many of them still have dry instruction about card flip and stat modifications. I needed more theme tied to the gameplay and the stakes.

Then I heard of FaB, I read about it and it had everything I was looking for. But the art was always too generic to me. It got some welcome decks from the stores and watch some matches on youtube, I was still appealed by everything but the arts and character design. And it prevent me from jumping in practically.

Then recently, out of boredom, I played the tutorial match on a online digital simulator. The rhinar vs dorinthia classic battle. AND WOW!!! I played dorinthia and won after 2 or 3 tries. But wow!!!
It was a blast. I went and played some other matches in the silver age format and I just couldn't get enough of it. The gameplay loop was fantastic... AND I stopped thinking about the art.

At some point I found the matches to short wether I was winning or loosing and I tried CC format. IT WAS PHENOMENAL. i can't go back to formats with less health points.
Now I am studying the various character to chose wich one I will commit to as a main character to learn matchups and go deeper into the game.
And now i started to realized that the visuals are just stroking something in me... It's like I have never noticed them before. The various color tone, the various card frame shining elements, the life likeness of the characters... Now during my web research everytime if come across a card I just love it and I find myself enjoying how it stands apart from the other TCG visuals. I really wonder what happened.

Question A good album for expensive cards?

Not super expensive cards but valuable nonetheless, from $10 to $100 each. I was using the Gamegenic basic album, but it's not rigid and the cards slip off their place if they are just with an inner sleeve.

Is there a better alternative out there? It's important for me that the cards don't slip off with just an inner. Thanks.

Question Can I export from Fyendal's without a subscription

I started using Fyendals collection to keep track of everything but realized I cannot share it without being a member. I am now trying to export the list of cards I have and it wont let me without being a member. Anyone know a way I can export it or copy and paste it to text file. Would appreciate the help as the collections I'm trying to export have a combined total of over 800 cards so I am really trying not to manually do every single one again.

Discussion Silver Age is the best way to get people into the game... but no one's playing it.

Hello~! I guess first things first, this is very anecdotal to my experience and I'd like to hear about some other peoples' experiences or if anyone has advice on how to maybe get more people into the game locally.

I've been playing FaB for a few years now and really struggled to get people into CC for a long time. When Silver Age came out, I was super excited for a way to get my friends into the game with a much more accessible route, but I noticed that as the weeks and months passed, all interest in Silver Age outside of new players kind of faded. Now the only people playing the format are the new players and while that is great, once they adopt CC, the player pool shrinks and fewer and fewer people are left playing the format.

On one hand, that's great, I'm glad that CC has a chance to grow too, but on the other, I'm personally getting more and more into SAGE as a format. CC is super fun, but sometimes, I want to jam several games and play several heroes instead of just one for one or two games. My pod of SAGE players has gone from 5 other people who were interested down to just 1 as others either adopted CC or felt like the pool of players was shrinking and dropped the game.

Obviously people are still participating in showdowns and events, but it just feels really small now. I know people have noted in CC how local participation seems to be shrinking, but competitive is either growing or stable. I always chalked that up to the buy in price of the game, but SAGE doesn't have that excuse really.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone else have any personal feelings on SAGE as a format and why it might have a slower adoption rate around me? It feels like with every passing day, the game gets more interesting and I want to play the format more, but everyone around me just doesn't want to.

Discussion I'm trying my best to stay strong through the losses but it just feels like I'm banging my head against a brick wall.

This is a bit of a follow-up post to one I made a week ago where I was struggling with Jarl, and I do appreciate all the advice I was given. It just seems that everybody is playing matchups that I can't deal with, and I'm genuinely not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Fang in particular is a matchup I cannot deal with, because his deck is effectively just a bunch of attack reactions, and unless you have 15-20 defense reactions in your deck (which doesn't really seem reasonable), you're constantly put in lose/lose situations. He swings for 1 > you block 3 > he gives his attack go again, mark on hit, and +4. The reverse situation is he swings for 1, you block 6, and he just gives his attack go again and the next dagger comes at you for 5 instead.

Sorry if this post just sounds like whining. I really, really, think this game is a ton of fun and even in losing I'm genuinely enjoying myself. I just know I'm missing something and I have no clue what it is.

Discussion New MTG Refugee Seeks Advice

Hello,

I’ve played MTG for well over a decade but have been thoroughly disappointed with Hasbro. I greatly enjoyed the tournament aspect and would participate with weekly fnm. My focus for this post is however to ask for advice on where to start with FAB. I purchased the round table game and am going to learn to play with my family and friends.

My question is that knowing my background with TCG and my desire for a somewhat competitive casual gaming experience would I be able to pickup something like the Malice Armoury deck and be able to learn and reasonably play at my LGS without having to worry about getting the staples immediately or can I slowly build up my collection with my knowledge and enjoy this game?

I understand that it’s largely dependent on my location and I can say that generally speaking with MTG there were professional decks at the LGS in my area so my guess is that it’d be similar. But can a vanilla deck still perform reasonably well in FAB or not?

Are there better recommendations for how I should be learning to play and joining the game or is this a reasonable approach to play and take my lumps initially to learn trial by fire?

I don’t know anyone personally who already plays. I’m just really missing a good game and hopefully this can be my new hobby.

I prefer midrange decks.

Thanks for any advice. :)

Discussion About multi-class and future sets

Anyway guys, I wanted to share a thought with you.

The fact that we're seeing more and more class talent + class class mixes is clearly very intriguing from a game design perspective (and IMO not necessarily too dangerous, since cards usually have specific wording), but it has a profound implication in terms of participation and economics.

We've always said that the problem with FaB sets is that they might not have your class/talent.

But now, if you start playing multi-class (maybe even with a talent) or a new hero comes out that shares half your class, you'll be increasingly inclined to participate in more set releases, because there's a higher chance that there's something you need and/or are interested in.

This is a good thing and, at the same time, an expensive one šŸ˜‚

Obviously, class staples will become increasingly important, essentially becoming semi-generics since they can be played by a much wider pool of heroes (looking at you, Codex of Frailty).

What do you think about these topics?

Question Can you help me solve this puzzle? (Hala help)

I have a bit of a problem. My local PQ is this weekend, and I don't have most of my Hala cards, some have been ordered but haven't arrived yet, and others I can't afford yet. I've been filling the gaps with proxies, but obviously I can't do that in this event.

This is my current card pool, the "Deck" section is what's currently in the deck, and the "Maybe" section is what I have in my binder. I also have all the MPW commons and rares, but they aren't listed. I don't expect to win the event, but I at least want to have some fun matches. Can you help me solve this puzzle?

Question Who to play?

I’ve been playing flesh and blood for probably around 8 months now and heavily gravitate towards a control play style. I like to have a big board presence and/or a heavy defense, long game type of deck. I started with and continue to play guardians (currently Bravo and Valda) and also looked into illusionists (mainly Dromai). After the release of omens and usurp I haven’t really found any of the newer heroes to be super interesting. I found levia fun for the pre release but I don’t think I would build a deck for her. Now with Outbreak having mixed classes I’m even more lost on what hero’s may fit my playstyle. Azalea seems pretty cool but I feel like I should be more excited for this set with how big it is. Are there any heroes that may fit into this play style that I just haven’t noticed yet?

Question Home Play

New FaB player here. A Kiwi living in Tokyo who used to play a bit of Magic but wanted to try out FaB due to the New Zealand link.

Got two SAGE decks (Fai and Dorinthea) for me and my partner to learn and play at home. Have had a lot of fun exploring the two decks and was wondering where to from here.

I don't intend to play competitively, we just like to play casually at home with each other. Is it best to invest in a few more of the SAGE decks and just rotate random heros to keep it interesting between us or to get some full game decks? Or do people more just adjust the SAGE deck they already have to be more interesting to play and keep the hero the same?

Just looking for some advice for casual players to keep learning and enjoying the game together without breaking the bank.
