Hey all!
A buddy and I are driving to Sweden (via Malmö) soon for a two-night fishing trip. We're experienced remote campers, and we prefer to keep it as remote as we can within our timeframe.
We're looking for anyone willing to offer some good location advice to two danskjävlar coming to enjoy your wonderful nature. We've done as much Googling as we can, so we thought it'd be good to ask the locals. What are your favourite fishing spots that are remote? Maybe we can get a small community post going here!
Because we'll be taking the trip in October, we need to plan carefully about time needed to scout camp locations and set up camp, according to when the sun sets. On top of that, we need to adjust for driving time, as we're driving a large and heavy 4x4, so our average speeds will likely max out around 60-80 km/h.
Given that, and a departure time from Malmö at around 7am, and adjusting for shopping and eating breaks (estimated two hours total of breaks - we like to explore a bit as well), as well as a 17:30 arrival time (need time to set camp while there's still light). That effectively puts everything in a 550 km radius of Malmö in reach.
We're dreaming of places with less pike (we know they can't be avoided in Sweden, we've fished there many times), and we've been browsing through iFiske but it's just impossible to get a good overview - there's too much territory to cover. We're mainly optimizing for higher altitude lakes and cold deep-water lakes, as those increase the chances of char, lake whitefish, and burbot.
We're of course aware that particularly char and trout will be protected widely in Sweden during october for spawning season, and we're sticking closely to iFiske rules for each area.
Now, for my question:
Are there any avid Swedish fishermen here, who can perhaps point us in the direction of a good spot or a good area?
We're looking mainly for:
- Remoteness / wilderness feel - if we can be away from visible housing, we'd love it!
- Car reachability - we're carrying a lot of equipment, so we need to be able to drive there. Foresting roads and such are not a problem, regardless of terrain - we're equipped in theory for heavy off-roading (which we won't do in Sweden due to nature preservation efforts)
- Decent camp area - we need roughly 5x5 metres for a good camp size. Car can be parked close by.
- As we're optimizing for lake depth and altitude within our distance range from Malmö, we've mainly been scouting areas around and north of Lake Unden, as well as around Stora Le.
- We'd prefer foresty-areas and rocky nature, as opposed to barren flatlands like Mosse
