Fragments of a Forgotten Memoir
/15 - Ailell Forest/
It has been several months since King Nemesis was defeated, and the tides of war have turned from bad to worse. I have received news that my friend Daphnel has fallen as well. Those zealots are after our heads, and those of our leaders. All that is left for us is to disappear into the muddy waters Seiros has created. My long life may soon come to an end...
From this we see that Nemesis, at least by the end of the war, was king and likely had established some sort of kingdom. The interesting thing is that there's no mention of any such kingdoms, or rather, there's a general lack of references for any before the empire was established.
Why I highlighted Friend is because Daphnel is specially singled out as the writer's friend, and the writer doesn't use such a term as "my friends have fallen," suggesting that the writer was only friends with Daphnel.
Another interesting fact is that the writer uses the term "Zealot." It can be interpreted either as the enemy of the elite as being very determined, which is very possible, or as a fact that their war had a religious context.
The fact that there were people above ten elite despite the fact that they held crests and weapons is intriguing. Were these people just norma generals, which is unlikely, or were those people our dear mole people in their skin suits? I'd say that might makes the right thing with Nemesis theres high likehood of the writer's superiors being Agarathans acting as generals under disguise, which is not impossible considering the war of Lion and Eagle.
The writer is clearly aware of the fact that they have a long life, probably thanks to the fact that the war has been going on for more than a century, give or take.
___/2 - Itha Plains
I somehow escaped with my life, but I fear the end is near. Most of my clan has already surrendered to the Empire. To my surprise,
I am told their safety was guaranteed.
I, however, am a different matter. My life, along with my sacred weapon, will unquestionably be forfeit. My dear son and daughter... I hope you can forgive me one day.
Clan suggests that despite the rather medieval appearance of the setting even during war of heros and fact that clans disappear in the future or at least amongst noble families, the writer's culture still had clans rather than noble houses at the point he wrote this.
The writer is clearly surprised at the fact that mercy will be granted to his clan, suggesting that the policy of clemency for the families of ten elite was a rather recent development.
So funnily enough, Nemeiss or Agarthans might have been the ones who spread the weapons and creasts bejng gifts of Sothis before Rhea herself considered the idea. Clearly, writer thinks that their weapon is a sacred gift.
Also, the author clearly cares about their kids, which is a good, humanising moment, but not alot of lore implications aside from not all of ten elite being children eating monsters but later we see that the writer thinks that they have done something and have to earn forgiveness from their kids
___/5 ___
Why does Seiros despise us so? What did King Nemesis do to incur such unyielding wrath? Perhaps it was a mistake to accept his offer. In any case, that is all in the distant past now...______and before this body falls to ash, the evil...
Clearly the author doesn't know who Seiros is, which isn't surprising considering that even Nemesis didn't, but the fact that they don't bring any massacres or anything such things, which, considering this is their private diary, they have no reason to deny, suggests that at least the writer doesn't think that the elite have done anything so terrible to have earned Seiros' hatred.
So yes, ten Elite, or at least the author here, didn't seem to have any ideas about the origins of their gifts. Or how did Nemesis get them.
