Parking fee

Post image

I understand that I have to pay there for parking between 9-21 on weekdays and between 9-18 on Saturdays. And I can set parking timer to 21 if I parked my car at 20:31 on a weekday. Do I pay for half-an-hour or not?

I think no. But I just want to make sure. Thank you for your time.

This is not parking disc territory, so you don't use that. And yes, you have to pay.

That's a parking payment machine symbol in the picture. You have to pay for the time you park during those hours.

As others have said, this is paid parking where you need to always pay. Well, maybe during the last 10 minutes you can take a risk and skip the payment, but usually these areas are patrolled frequently.

For parking disc areas you would be correct. You can legally set the timer to 21 at 20:30:01. It would then reset the timer at 21 and you’d have the maximum parking time the next morning.

Parking timer only applies where there is a time limited free parking. Not for payed parking. Payed parking needs to be payed for every minute you are there and doesn't have 30 minute increments.

To clarify, ’parking timer only applies where there is a requirement to use parking timer(disc)’

additional question: in the example in the photo - what happens on Sundays? Is the time in brackets only Saturday or Saturday and Sunday?

u/Admirable-Owl2103 17h ago

Brackets are for Saturday. If Sunday fee applies, the time range is in red text.

Sundays and holidays would be in red. If it's absent, that plaque doesn't apply on those days.

it’s free parking on sunday. these limits are there to control street parking during business hours.

Recommend using some of the apps, they won’t charge you outside that marked time

If you’re in Helsinki you can double check the costs of parking in EasyPark app which has a great map view and UI, and then switch to eParking app to pay for parking which has much lower commission but terrible map view to navigate (at least on iPhone). Also, if you use an electric car, please send your license plate number to Helsinki city email so they can give you 50% discount after which it will be 2€ per hour in the most expensive zone and 1€ per hour in the cheaper zone.

you park there and then use the Easypark app, to pay, the app will automatically only pay for the time that you need to

Only if it's an EasyPark zone; it might also be run by Moovy, Aimo, or one of the other parking operators. Always check from the signs posted locally - some zones support multiple operators, others don't. It's best not to assume.

Agreed. Parkman and Easypark do show the area as a block when locating via GPS, so if they don't show it, don't assume. Not sure if they'll allow parking in an unknown spot? At the very least, they will show a zero-priced parking period in a valid area that isn't currently chargeable which is good insurance.

Yeah, but EasyPark has quite a high commission fee.
For 30 minutes, I would use a parking machine and save money.
EasyPark app is good when you don't know how long you need to park as you can extend/stop the parking if needed. It's also used in several other European countries if you are traveling and renting a car so it's handy to have it installed.

Your best bet is to use Parkman and/or Easypark as they will automatically determine your area and pricing. Just put a card with "Easypark" or "Parkman" next to your kiekko to be doubly sure.

How is that easier than just waking to the nearest parking payment machine? No need to install any apps, create accounts, add license plate or pay any additional fees.

You set them up once and you’re good to go. I don’t know how anyone defines easy, but I prefer the parking apps over the machines. Especially if you have to go back to put the ticket on the dashboard. And if you need to pay in advance, you may not know how long you need to park for.

That and I can almost guarantee that nobody has pissed on my phone, and I can use it before leaving the car or committing to parking. :-D
