Jordan Khudeiri blew all expectations
Traveling overseas to Jordan, I couldn’t resist going on a hunt for local figs! Meet the Jordan Khudeiri (which basically means the green one).
It’s a heirloom variety tracing back thousands of years. It’s intensely flavored, super jammy, perfectly sweet yet tangy, with a wild fruit-punch taste and the most satisfying seed crunch. Wish we had it in the US!
If anyone has it and can send cuttings please DM me 🙏

GRASSHOPPERS EATING MY TREE!!
Please help!! What do I do?! They're obliterating the leaves! I don't care if it's a "natural" solution or not; I want a solution. I saw someone said Niko Bait on tiktok. Any personal benefit from it before?
Show & Tell Dalmatie / San Pietro
This is the variety I chose 3 years ago, and I definitely recommend it, very juicy and sweet with hints of strawberry when the inside is still red, turns even richer and honey-like when it gets even more ripe and brownish inside.
It is known as Dalmatie where I live but has apparently many other names (White Navello, San Pietro, du Japon, Dalmatian green...)
I ordered another variety this year because I was getting worried this one couldn't fruit in the mild climate where I live: the previous years the autumn figs would stay green, but this summer was exceptionally hot and we have been feasting.
Teaspoon for size, but some of the brebas in early summer were gigantic (unfortunately lost to an improvised football match and ants)

Question Potted first year or plant right away
Got this Chicago hardy at a garden centre it’s ment to be planted outdoors but winter is arriving and I’m thinking of keeping it in the garage for the first year than planting it outdoors.
I’m located in Quebec with a zone5b, if I plant it outside right away I could cover it with a big bucket to protect it from all the snow. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Do you have to let very small trees and/or rooted cuttings go dormant ?
Why is it considered mandatory to let a very small tree (like a foot tall) go dormant ? Can't you just keep it alive as a house plant through the winter ? It's not like it's going to fruit anyway. It probably won't fruit the entire next year either. So what is the harm in letting it bigger over the winter and then putting it out in the spring ?

Could I bury the bent part or would that kill the plant
Live this plant but I’d live it more if it was straight. Thinking about what I should do for next year? I live in nj so it will be a while until I need to replant this

Question Fig care for winter question
Hi everyone, I’ve had this fig tree for about 3 years now and I don’t think I’ve been caring for it properly at all. The first year when I bought it, it gave me a fig and since then it’s been nothing.
I am in zone 7a and this fig is a hardy fig variety (I’m sorry that’s all I know). Do I cut it down all the way and leave it outside on my balcony over the winter or should I take it inside?
Any help would be appreciated. I used to live on a fruit farm so I thought I would know but clearly figs are far out of my realm of knowledge.
If I’m missing any more information that could help, please let me know

Show & Tell Fall planting zone 7a NY
Just planted this barely 1 year old Chicago hardy fig in the ground from a 10 gallon pot. I'll cover it with upside down bucket with holes when it goes below freezing. I did it last year and the figs survived. One thing I added last year which I will do again this year was before I placed the bucket, I sprayed hot chili peppers on them. The previous year, the voles ate my whole tree including the roots! 😂

First fig from tree propagated 2024
Italian honey fig. Propagated from cuttings I took in March 2024 from my grandfather's tree. That tree was over 50 years old. I've propagated it to my aunt's and uncle's homes and next year I'll propagate to cousins and friends.

When Can I Harvest?
I know these other guys probably won’t ripen so the one on the top right is my one chance this year. It is very soft. How do I know when to harvest it?

What's wrong with my fig tree
It's at least 7 years old. It has rust on its leaves now but that's new. It just hasn't grown. I was probably not real diligent about watering to begin with.. what can I do?

Midwest Fig care question
I have this scraggly “Chicago hardy” fig I got early this spring. It actually produced fruit this year. I live in the Chicago area and am wondering what I could do to winterize this plant for the next season? Trimming, where to keep it, any advice would be much appreciated. I don’t have a garage but I do have a couple sheds…

Pruning after this past spring's frostbite
Hi all: question about pruning, after some damage last spring.
We're in Essex County, NJ, about 20 miles from NYC. We've had the pictured fig for 15+ years. This past winter/spring we had some severe frostbite, as did many figs in the area. Growth is sparse and mostly at the end of trunks and branches., though there is some new growth lower down on some trunks (along with some low trunks/shoots). The tree yielded about half the figs we've had in recent years.
After growth started, I cut off a lot of dead-wood tips remaining above the new growth. I am wondering how to prune before next spring. I suspect that part of the answer will be to get rid of some of the five main trunks. For the rest, since it got so stalky, I don't know how far to cut down, if at all. Advice appreciated!
