And that's the part of the first amendment he (and others) seem to not realize: freedom of speech is certainly not freedom from consequences of that speech
The sad part is that a substantial portion of this audience agrees with him, but only as it applies to people saying things about or laughing at THEM. To them, 1A does mean "i can say whatever I want whenever I want to whomever I want, but you can't do that to me...dOnT tReAd On Me!"

It seems that most Americans believe the First Amendment prohibits criticism or any reaction to an expressed opinion. I don't think I've ever seen an US American invoke the First Amendment for any other reason.
I like how he flails even harder as no officer is coming because, you know, she’s not breaking the law. I also didn’t know laughing was a violation of the first amendment, the American legislative system is truly fascinating.
He was wrong, of course, and the person who said that law was for phone communications was correct. You can be filmed at any time in public and that is perfectly legal.

In a functioning democracy that should end his career as a legislator. Being a little bitch boy should disqualify him as well but this interaction is shamefull for a politician.
For the record, in almost every state that has two party consent it doesn’t apply in public. It only applies if every person in the party has a reasonable expectation of not being overheard. It certainly would not apply in this situation where he is in a public place speaking loudly to a bunch of reporters.
So he gets elected to be a congressman and thinks he has power now. What a weak man trying to exert his “power” in whatever way possible just to silence people. I’m glad he’s failing miserably.

Imo govt officials when in public or anywhere legally accessible by the public or when press is involved should be recorded. They're here to serve the people (even though they just seem to serve themselves)
More acutely, the price of diesel has skyrocketed in the past 8 months after being relatively flat/steady for the preceding 12 months or so. Republicans have controlled everything during that 8 months (and more, obviously), and are directly responsible for the war that is directly causing the spike in diesel.
I am really deeply concerned by how many people do not understand the First Amendment.
For anyone who doesn't know, 1A is: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The government cannot take away freedom of speech. Random people laughing while some man talks loudly into a microphone is not a violation of freedom of speech. My gosh, this is something a fifth grader can understand.

No one is saying you cant say whatever you want. But if it’s a dumb take people will laugh at you. I can say whatever I want to my wife, but there is a chance she might not like some of the things I could say. So for that reason I do not say those things.
I posted in another community about the tea I have on this asshole. He had a whole ass affair with his current wife. His first wife died of a massive heart attack and not even before her body was cold, he debuted the mistress and eventually married her. Some of his kids didn’t go to the wedding or speak to him. He has absolutely no idea what the First Amendment is about. It's about not letting the GOVERNMENT limit free speech. It doesn't mean you can't get heckled at a debate or a stand-up comedy show.

Harris then questioned the journalists, asking, “Do you know the law?” and maintained that as a legislator, he “actually know[s] the law well.” Murphy continued to attempt to ask Harris about the war in Iran, prompting Harris to request a police officer before leaving the interaction.
“Get an officer in here,” Harris said. “She’s violating the law on two-party recording.”
Maryland’s law on two-party recording consent applies to private, in-person conversations, according to the national Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, a legal nonprofit organization.

About a constitutional amendment he absolutely doesn’t understand. After this bit he berated a woman for recording him while speaking in the hallway, I believe. He’s bitching about it being a two party consent state, she doesn’t have his consent and then tried to call over an officer because he was being recorded and didn’t consent. While hes surrounded by at least a half dozen other people (reporters, i assume) also recording him. In a public place. Someone needs to tell this man the first amendment only means the government can't prosecute him for stating an opinion, not that people can't think he's an idiot for having the opinion.

It's not a war currently being engaged at the most important waterway on the planet, among countries renowned for exporting crude oil worldwide, or a president's decision to engage in said war, ignoring all expert military warnings , or the president's own acknowledgement that oil prices are currently spiking due to said war the will end "any day now". It's certainly the Democrats and their damn policies spiking gas prices HALFWAY THROUGH A REPUBLICAN PRESIDENCY... Make it make sense.
