Why the plastic bag outside the cup??

To carry it wherever they are going. Restaurants all over the place do the same with delivery orders for beverages or soup.

Whether or not it's wasteful it does serve a purpose.

That doesn't explain the bag at all, since you can just carry the cup without the bag.

It explains it completely. Don’t want your drink hand-delivered by a sweaty hand that’s likely been all over your lid?

Instead the sweaty hand and questionable knife was all over that coconut

But it’s the vendor so it’s okay. Known entity that you’ve never met vs. random questionable delivery person.
That’s how people think.

Then you can't carry other things, can't hang it on a bike or motorcycle, can't carry more than one cup, and if you bump it or squeeze it by accident it spills everywhere.

You will find people carrying to go cups in plastic bags anywhere that you find to go cups.

So you don’t warm it with your hand

Considering I personally printed 634,,000 ft/845,000 impressions of snack food packaging yesterday this is meh. The scale of single use plastic packaging is hard to fathom. In a year the one printing press I work on accounting for all shifts prints around 175,000,000 ft of plastic film. That doesn't include the lation layers that get added afterwards. I work for a moderate sized packaging converter.

Yeah, I also work in converting and we mainly specialize in non recyclable multi material packagings. It's pretty depressing seeing bins and bins of scrap material that I know is going straight to landfill, and that's not even accounting for the massive amounts of good material that will be consumed and discarded

sea turtles need to eat too

The most interesting part in this video is that it shows both worlds:

He does use part of the fruit itself to scoop out the flesh.

The most sustainable approach would be to incorporate the fruit itself for the drink, but I guess this wouldn't sell as well to your average single use plastic using, convenience loving customer.

What's the consistency of the stuff he scoops out? Does it dissolve in the water?

7

u/Facts_pls 2d ago

It's coconut flesh. Doesn't dissolve. Delicious to eat

A little bit similar to cartilage, but softer.

Just put the straw in the coconut. No need for theb3 other plastic items

How are you eating the coconut flesh?

You do it the same way the vendor did, with a spoon made from the coconut husk. You just drink the coconut water while standing next to the vendor, then hand it back so they can cut it open and scoop out the flesh. It's common in India.

I used to do that with my dad. It was great. He even made us some of those coconut husk spoons

There is no brown part with 3 eyes?

7

u/mezasu123 2d ago

This is a young coconut. Brown part you usually see is actually inside that green one when it's mature.

u/Odd-Village-132 2d ago

Coconut water comes from green coconuts brown ones are older

Brown ones have much more of the meat for shredded coconut and coconut milk

I'm always fascinated that coco ladies still have fingers.

4

u/Facts_pls 2d ago

As opposed to chilled coconuts cooled by polar ice found in the idiot land you came from

It’s just gross. Had it and didn’t like it
