Discussion I loved the 2005 movie “Hard Candy” starring Ellen Page. She nailed that performance really good. The movie was a little creepy but very entertaining in my opinion. Kept me intrigued the entire time. If you like psychological thrillers then this is for you.

Discussion Most influential movies of the 20th century…
My reasoning for each pick:
•Birth of A Nation - Unfortunately this was a very influential film. Not just on the art form of cinema but also in the real world. It contributed to the revival of The Klan and is an example of a movie that genuinely has a body count.
•Metropolis - The godfather of Sci-Fi.
•Mr. Smith Goes To Washington - Wizard of Oz may have seemed the obvious choice because of its standing in pop culture but I think more directors have tried, often successfully, to imitate Mr. Smith more than they did Oz.
•Citizen Kane - You may have heard of this film.
•Seven Samurai - A big influence of the spaghetti western genre which would come later and one of the great works by the master Kurosawa.
•Easy Rider - The box office hit that helped usher in the New Hollywood era.
•Star Wars: A New Hope - You may have also heard of this film.
•Blade Runner - I almost chose Ghostbusters because when people think of the 80’s, they think of fun high budget/high concept movies like that, Back To the Future, Robocop, etc. But Blade Runner has probably had a more longstanding impact on people who went on to be directors themselves.
•Pulp Fiction - Every crime movie that came out for the next decade wanted to be Pulp Fiction and its nonlinear storytelling would be adopted by many other writers and directors.

Who is the actor or actress that you still love, despite all the controversial events?
Yours?
Discussion 8 years later, the battlefield sequence in Hacksaw Ridge (2016) remains one of the most intense depictions of war in modern cinema.
Mel Gibson’s direction in this movie is unreal. The contrast between Desmond Doss's strict non-violent convictions and the absolute hellfire of Okinawa makes his rescue of 75 men feel almost mythological, yet it actually happened. Andrew Garfield gave a career-best performance here, and the sound design during the artillery barrage is insane. How do you think Hacksaw Ridge holds up compared to other modern war classics like 1917, Saving Private Ryan, or Dunkirk?

Discussion My 2026 so far, ranked top to bottom (38 movies)
I ranked every movie I've seen this year, 38 so far. The Odyssey landed at number one for me and I know that's probably the expected pick given all the hype going in, but it genuinely earned it for me, didn't feel like hype talking.
what surprised me more is Brand New Day sitting at number two, I didn't expect to like it that much walking in. and a Jackass movie ended up ranked above some stuff I'd call "better" on paper, though I think some nostalgia was driving that more than anything.
I'm curious how everyone else's year stacks up once you actually rank it out instead of just going off memory. does your list surprise you at all once you see it laid out, or does it mostly match what you expected?
