No Spoilers - Fan Content FFVII Remake - Co-op mod playthrough chapter 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjy6wDnchHQ

Hi,

So something that I've wanted for a long time is the ability to play FFVII:R cooperatively. Recently I started working on a mod that would let people do just that! For this video I've enlisted my daughter to begin a let's play series to play through the game together using the mod.

It still needs a little bit of polishing, but eventually should be released for everyone to enjoy! I've always felt that having a coop mode would benefit the games - being able to play with your friends while sitting on the couch, getting people involved in the series who may not be interested in going through it alone...

This mod was built for the steam version of the game. I do own the Epic games version as well, so if everything goes to plan I would make it work on that one as well. Anway, thanks for watching!

This is super awesome and the fact that you added optional freeroam functionality for both players with optional independent cameras and so many options for splitscreen was way beyond what I was expecting!

Yeah - I kind of like that aspect, especially since you can run around and break boxes etc lol.

I bet three people could get a nice chair tower going in the shinra cafeteria.

Would love it to be a regular game feature and not a mod, I agree!

This is awesome, don't know why it didn't get more upvotes.

I always thought FF7 remake/rebirth combat would be perfect for co-op. I'll definitely be trying this if you ever release it.

Tbh it was caught up in the auto moderation for like 36 hours so I think most people missed it sadly 🫠

It seems like it's gotten some more traction since I commented so maybe it'll keep getting pushed up into people's feeds

Dude…imagine if Square was able to master this concept, especially since Teruki Endo worked on Monster Hunter with Capcom before coming to Square. An FF MMO with THIS combat style?? Dude everyone would be all over it! A monster hunter style game with 7R’s combat system in a world of FF of some kind would literally print money for Square Enix!

They definitely have something to think about!!

I would love to see them add this feature. Cut out half the mini games and add this

That's really cool! I have a friend who helps me play the piano in rebirth, playing all of remake with them would be nice

This is a dream come true. Any plans to try to Port this or make a version of it for Rebirth as well?

Honestly - it is probably doable. I started with remake for a couple of reasons, and one of them is that it is simply less hardware intensive than Rebirth.

I've got a very pedestrian Computer by modern standards, and Remake even with 3 screens still gets a good frame rate at 1080 resolution. I'm not sure that my PC could necessarily do that for Rebirth, but I really don't know.

Right now I really want to just focus on this one being very nicely polished first. Technically I could "release" it today but I know it can be better and I'd like to do my best to make sure there aren't bugs or crashes if at all possible.

Once it is done, I'd definitely consider trying it for Rebirth though and see what that looks like.

Any chance of an online option?

I don’t think so - it would be adding a big layer to this which is a little beyond the scope of the project.  (Although with screen sharing apps you may be able to still do something if the speeds are fast enough and there isn’t a ton of input lag etc)

Yes, this is definitely possible through Parsec.

This looks amazing! Id definitely give this a shot if you ever drop it live.

I think I noticed that only first players HUD is visible, is that correct? Like… you wouldn’t see Barret’s charge shot meter if first player is playing cloud. I imagine it would be tough to overcome that limitation?

The hud is unchanged from the vanilla game - all three characters health/atb/etc is on the right, command menu is on the left.

holy this is awesome .. are you planning to add peer to peer or online coop? basically you host game and just send straight up ip address connection, ofc its only for friends etc

cool idea tho

I don't think it's possible without touching the source code which is a non-starter for me. This mod works basically the same as if you wanted to do a hard mode mod, or a clothing mod, or whatever. Can be added and removed with zero issues and minimal effort.
