Failed Expectation Ordered Eggward got Bluedward

In their defence they said they don’t do buttercream and only marzipan. But the colour was supposed to match the print. The edible glitter was a personal touch

I learned recently that “cottage bakeries” can’t use buttercream due to the laws around those types of places

This was my thought. In CO it basically ruled out dairy products entirely (or really anything that had to be refrigerated).

That changed recently with the “Tamale Law;” I think both meat and dairy are allowed now.

We can make buttercream from crisco or sweetex/oasis. There are butter extracts and butter flavored crisco. Some states allow buttercream as well, mine does. As long as it's the American buttercream recipe. The sugar makes it so it doesn't spoil. But if you add milk instead of water then it should be refrigerated after a couple hours.

Isn't this like cakes 101? I would think if anything they wouldn't do marzipan/fondant....im so confused by this "bakery"

If I had to be super generous... really good piping skills is really hard to master. It takes a LOT of patience and practice to get things looking beautiful. With the rise of the "vintage" style cakes, this person probably just didn't have the patience to learn to make it look good.

What is easy though? Taking some fondant/marzipan, rolling it out, and using cookie cutters/plungers of MANY shapes to decorate with. It's basically like using stickers. And with marzipan you can make some 3d objects if you're good at playing with clay. Hell you can even just buy silicon molds and press the marzipan/fondant into it to get an even better 3d shape with less work

In Vietnam you would be hard pressed to find literally anyone who does butter cream tbh. It’s whipped cream or fondant

Similarly whipped cream is main decoration in Japan too, buttercream is seen as old fashioned or retro now
