cakespectation - Negative Pancake Ice Cream Cake
Ever since my kids were little I did cake for breakfast on their birthday. Just a fun tradition. Separately, son loves pancakes. I saw this pancake “cake” from Baskin Robbin’s and figured it would be great for this purpose so ordered it for his 16th birthday. Didn’t quite turn out.

That looks great! The manager said she’d been making them years and it should not have looked that way. I’m not sure what the people who made it were thinking or if they remained there long after.

They used the wrong color frosting. Probably ran out and were too dumb to contact you.
This seems like a young employee error.

I should have added these details
Wasn’t custom request, just one of their standard offerings to order. No cut photos. This was 2 or 3 years ago. I just thought about adding it here. His dad picked it up and didn’t look. I didn’t see til late the evening before birthday morning. Redecorated to best of our abilities and had our birthday breakfast cake. No happiness lost, just all had good laugh as I showed them pics of how it had looked. Manager notified next day, very embarrassed, offered replacement but because too late I was given refund. I don’t remember being impressed one way or another by flavor so it was at least decent.

Oh damn. So that’s one of THEIR catalogued cakes?! That makes it 1000x worse IMO.

This is why companies should stop using AI for their food offering photos

I really don’t think it was AI. This was a couple years ago before that became common.

Did the decorator ever have a fully cooked pancake in their life? 😂

Did you pay for it and take it home?

Yes, ex picked it up and didn’t look. I did get refunded and offered a replacement by an embarrassed manager a few days later, but this was late evening before the birthday breakfast so we just did our best to make it look better and went with it.

I thought you were going to say you tried recreating it on your own. The color is so wrong. That’s raw pancakes.

l thought you were going to say smth like "my first attempt to bake a cake". No way people are so bad at their jobs, unbelievable. l wish l weren't so hard on myself.

I almost wish it had been. As a first attempt for someone that maybe doesn't make cakes often or at all, it's not that bad but coming from a company where there's supposed to be some experience with it...that's bad.

I’d suggest that your pancake pile go get some bloodwork immediately.

Ooh that's bad I ty thought it was your attempt at making and for a beginner home cook that's not bad. But to purchase that...😬

Honestly it looks fine. Then again I suck at cake decorating and have realistic expectations of what the level of care I am paying for. If that cake was less than 50 bucks. It's good. If that cake was over 100, it's trash.

Maybe if OP was taking the inspiration picture to them and asking them to recreate it. But if that is their advertisement and that’s what they’re delivering, that is complete crap.
I don’t know why we’ve accepted that advertising can look nothing like the actual product, but it’s the consumers fault because we should have known better??

I’d say it looks great…if I’d made it. It was probably in the 40-50 as a baskin Robbin’s cake so nothing crazy. Cheap or not, don’t offer something for sale that you can’t produce. I was refunded and the manager was thoroughly embarrassed.

I think they did great for an employee that likely makes $17 or so an hour. I see it and can tell instantly that it’s a stack of pancakes.

I'm so out of the loop. $17 an hour? When I was in college I got $4.95 an hour to tutor. Oh fuck I am old.

I’d smash it in a second. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad ice cream cake before. And from DQ? Bro invite me to that party

Oh, I was going to tell you not to feel bad and then reread the description. I assumed this was one you made at home to mimic the Baskin Robbin's cake. The actual company getting the color so wrong is just disappointing!

We need to see the inside! Cut a big slice out because it doesn't look bad to me
