Existential Dread My pov
I am currently completely stuck in this. No one ever experiences "the nothingness". Everyone says when we die it's like before we were born, but i just cant stand this. I think people are kind of putting their idea of nothingness in It instead of grasping It. Nobody will ever know until a physics or medic demonstration of something. Everyone just wakes up every time they go to sleep in their experience. Also, It blows my mind the fact that i am alive and i am this specific being, believing i can get information and processing in this language. Why chemicals and processes in brains are aware of themselves. Also, does time really exist or is just something we experience but has no real meaning? In all of this, i also kind of really like living, because sometimes even being in despair just makes you feel alive and i think that's beautiful, so i just don't want this to ever end and that's It. Obviously i will also love to make the love i experience live forever. I am just so attached to living and experiencing i can't imaging ceasing to do so... Honestly, right now i feel like my existence has to revolve around finding the ultimate answer. I also know the probability of doing it is close to zero, but i Just cant stand ending.

Being here The Story of One Entity
Disclaimer: Everything described in this article is assumption and should be treated as “thoughts on the subject” rather than an attempt to describe the absolute truth. The model presented is also simplified and does not cover all possible aspects.
Once upon a time, there was nothing in the world. Or, at least, there was no one who could say what was there. It is unknown how long this lasted before the first conscious entity appeared. It is unknown where this entity came from or what it was like in the beginning. The entity began observing the world and exploring it, its contents, and its processes. It could also influence the world in some way (although it is possible that all of this was actually happening in its imagination, and the entire world existed only in the imagination of this entity; however, that is not particularly important). Exploring the world was quite interesting, but over time, there was nothing left in it to explore. The entity then began experimenting and creating new objects itself. A countless variety of objects were created (although, at this point, they were probably relatively simple). But over time, this activity also ceased to be interesting.
Having lost all interest in the world and existence, the entity wanted to cease existing, but it did not know how to do so. After all, the entity had no physical form; it was simply “consciousness” (perhaps some kind of energy-information structure). In a state of despair (and anger), the entity even tried to destroy the world in the hope that it would disappear along with it, but the attempt failed.
Time passed, no other entities were found, and, as happens to people who spend a long time alone, the entity began talking to itself (of course, language as we know it did not exist back then, so this “communication” probably took place through images). Over time, this internal dialogue began to generate relatively independent streams of thought that started forming separate personalities. They became increasingly numerous, and the interactions between them increasingly chaotic. This phenomenon was similar to what is now called multiple personality disorder, except that there were far more than two personalities.
And then the entity came up with an idea: to separate its “personalities.” This would solve two problems at once. First, the entity would cease to exist as a single whole (it would no longer possess the same unified, indivisible consciousness it had before). Second, it would no longer be lonely (because the separated personalities could interact with one another without being part of a single whole).
Simply separating the personalities did not work; they kept returning and merging into one whole. After extensive experimentation, it was discovered that it was possible to place a part of its essence into the objects it had created. However, the simple objects that already existed could accommodate only a tiny fraction of the entity. The experiments continued and eventually yielded results. Certain more complex objects were capable of accommodating a significantly larger portion of the entity. These objects could also perform certain limited actions, move, and interact with other objects. Thus, the very first “living” objects appeared — single-celled microorganisms (perhaps something else preceded them, but that is not important for now). They could not accommodate an entire personality, but this was significant progress. The work continued. First, different types of microorganisms were created and their “capacity” was compared. Later, multicellular organisms were created.
The process of evolution began. Only not in the way we are accustomed to thinking about it. Living organisms did not change on their own; instead, new ones were created based on the experience gained from previous ones. (And this entire process had one goal: to divide the entity into separate entities.)
The creation of reptiles was something of a breakthrough. Their “capacity” was so much greater than that of their predecessors that an idea emerged: perhaps it would be enough simply to make them bigger? And so the dinosaurs appeared. Unfortunately, the experiment proved unsuccessful. Increasing size did not significantly increase capacity to accommodate the entity’s essence. Moreover, as the large lizards required too many resources from the experimental environment, they all had to be eliminated.
Time passed, and newer and better types of creatures were created. Finally, a being that could accommodate one (or perhaps even more than one) of the entity’s “personalities” was created. It was “the pinnacle of creation”. The history of humanity began.
Another step toward the goal had been taken, but it was not enough. In addition to the “vessels” themselves, it was necessary to create an ecosystem that was self-sufficient and self-sustaining. And here, further difficulties arose. The “personalities” contained fragments of the entity from which they had been created, inheriting all the qualities and emotions that the original entity had experienced and accumulated throughout its existence. These included not only curiosity, the joy of discovering something new, and love for what it had created, but also despair, anger, boredom, and the urge to destroy and self-destruct. As a result, alongside their other activities, humans also began to engage in destructive behavior, harming themselves, one another, and the environment in which they lived, ultimately leading to the collapse of the system.
It is impossible to know for certain, but it would not be surprising if humanity had been created several times with different settings and modifications, each attempt ending in its extinction. Maybe that is why we have numerous prophecies and descriptions of the apocalypse, because this has happened before, and the parameters of the current version have not been changed significantly, meaning the outcome is already known in advance (something like restarting a program during development to gather additional information).
It is also possible to speculate that the various ways of structuring the world found in mythology and different religions — with gods endowed with greater powers who were supposed to maintain order, or with reincarnation and the regulation of human capabilities through karma — were also models that had been considered (or even implemented) but ultimately failed.
So, what happens next? Most likely, humanity will perish (once again) and be created anew using the information gathered. Considering the biblical descriptions, personalities that negatively affected the balance of the system might be isolated in “hell.” However, it would not even be necessary to create a separate place for this purpose. Their ability to cause harm could be restricted in other ways, such as being born without any limbs or even a tongue, while their existence would be artificially sustained without the possibility of ending it. What else could such an existence be called if not “hell”? No pitchforks or cauldrons of fire are necessary. However, these harmful personalities still need to be dealt with one way or another, since they are part of the original entity and cannot simply be destroyed. And if this model fails, the experiment will continue until the human system becomes self-sufficient, stable, and sustainable in the long term.
And what, then, is the meaning of life? The purpose of humanity’s existence, for which it was created, is to exist for as long as possible (ideally, forever). The purpose of each individual human life, in this case, is simply to live, not to make life worse for others, and not to damage the environment in which one lives. Generally speaking, religious commandments, philosophical teachings, and ethical systems often boil down to precisely this.
On Evolution and the Laws of Nature
The theory of evolution is also worth discussing. At one time, it became a good alternative to the theological theory of creationism, and its emergence generally made it possible to look at the world more critically. Nevertheless, it has its shortcomings. The absence of fossil remains representing intermediate stages between species is often mentioned, and the reason for this has been described above.
But there is something more important. Nature (understood here in terms of the laws of physics) tends toward equilibrium. And in a state of equilibrium, changes generally do not occur. In other words, the emergence of life itself is arguably already an unnatural phenomenon, not to mention its development from simpler forms to more complex ones.
Even if we assume that life did emerge, the theory of evolution is based on mechanisms such as heredity and variation. In other words, at some point, an individual with new characteristics appears by chance, these characteristics are then inherited, and this eventually leads to the emergence of a new species.
In reality, however, differences from the rest of the population may greatly reduce an individual's chances of reproducing. Even in relatively tolerant modern human societies, people who are somehow different may still face difficulties fitting in and being accepted by others. In more primitive forms of population and in the wild, such individuals may be left without food, driven away, killed, or even eaten. This often happens immediately after birth, leaving them with almost no chance of producing offspring.
On God and Religion
From what has been described above, it follows that humanity was created by a certain entity as its own incarnation, and this entity is commonly referred to in society as God.
If humanity is an incarnation of God, then to some extent it has access to the knowledge and information that God possesses. This is why information about humanity’s origins surfaces in various forms, with the Bible being one such example. What is written there is most likely true, but it was recorded by people in the form they were capable of expressing it in. It is still an excellent source of information for analysis and reflection, but it should not be accepted unthinkingly.
And here, it is impossible not to mention religion. The only connection religion has to God is that it uses the concept of God as part of its business model. Religion and the system of religious institutions constitute a business, a fairly successful one, because the concepts it deals with resonate with something deep within human beings.
But God does not care about religion. It does not matter whether people believe in God or not, and God certainly does not need donations, churches, or rituals. Humanity was created as an embodiment of God and do not need to believe in God as an external source of support, because humanity needs to exist without God, because humanity itself is God.
“Love your neighbor as yourself” does not mean loving your neighbor as much as you love yourself. It means realizing that you and your neighbor are one and the same, that your neighbor is you. Of course, this does not work so simply. A person may dislike certain aspects of themselves, or even dislike themselves as a whole, so loving a part of oneself in the form of another person may not easy either. Nevertheless, there is no harm in trying.
Christians will naturally have a question about Jesus. Was he the Son of God? Yes, he was, but in the same sense that all people are God’s children. It is possible that Jesus was born with knowledge of humanity and its purpose. He never called on people to worship him as God, and he did not even call on people to worship God. He preached a way of life and an attitude toward others that would make the survival of humanity as a system easier and more effective.
On Reproduction
Probably nothing actually new will be told here, but reproduction is another subject that would be interesting to examine from the point of view of described model. One of the necessary conditions was that the created system of living organisms be capable of existing independently and sustainably. From a logical point of view, reproducing makes no sense for any living creature, since it only leads to the need to spend time and resources raising offspring without providing any real benefits. Therefore, to motivate creatures to reproduce, a system of hormonal activity and interaction between individuals had to be introduced.
A balance had to be maintained, because if reproductive activity were too low, the population would decline and eventually become extinct. Conversely, if activity were too high, the population could grow to such an extent that the rate of resource consumption would exceed the rate at which those resources were replenished. As a result, the ecosystem would be disrupted, resources would be depleted, and extinction would follow once again.
The hormonal system worked perfectly well for simpler creatures (animals), but in the case of humans, it began to malfunction. If it was sufficient to establish reproduction as an instinct in animals, humans (who, to some extent, can act against their instincts) also had to be given an element of pleasure (a reward, as it is called in psychology). In the early stages of human development, when there were not many forms of entertainment, this became an excellent incentive for population growth. At later stages, when a wide variety of entertainment options emerged, the rate of reproduction declined.
The system works, but at the same time, it appears somewhat unstable, because reproductive rates could fall so low that humanity would be unable to sustain its population and would eventually become extinct (trends pointing in this direction can already be observed in some countries).
Another factor is worth mentioning in this regard. In the past, starting a family was significantly more beneficial. Responsibilities were distributed in certain ways, and this also made survival easier than it would have been individually. In the modern world, survival has become much easier, and therefore many people do not want to limit themselves with certain obligations or put up with circumstances arising from living together with another person.

General Discussion Attachment
I hate attachment to anything. And I get attached to everything...people, songs, items, photos, videos, memories, clothes, movies, what not. I'm afraid of the fact that those things will be gone one day and I won't be able to experience them ever again. So I started getting rid of as much stuff as possible. Physical items, photos, videos. I think to myself : "will I remember that I got rid of this / deleted this?" If the answer is no, then I get rid of it. It really helps clear my mind and help with the fear of death a bit. And I make sure to experience as much as I feel like. Movies, music, being with my loved ones are very important for dealing with the fear. I want to focus on my inner world rather than the noise surrounding it. Just me and a few necessary items, going through life. Did minimalism help anyone else? Sorry if this sounds stupid

Spirituality Existential crisis (?) I don’t know what is going on inside my brain, my thoughts keep contradicting one another.
I was raised orthodox christian but ever since I can remember I did not believe in God. I do not know why, my family is religious. I tried so hard to believe. But I’m struggling.
In the last month, I have become a ghost. I am utterly miserable. I believe this is God punishing me, and I know I stated I do not believe in God, but my thought process is confusing. I am very confused. I am certain He is punishing me, if not the God I know then someone else. And I do not even know God. I have no relationship with him. By the “God I know” I mean the God I was taught to worship. The God I have abandoned, and never served. He is punishing me for my sins. I am being punished, or controlled. And God does not control me. I have free will. So if it is related to God, I am being punished. I have no other rational explanation for this, it must be God’s doing. I believe I am in a sort of crisis, and God is calling me to Him, He wants to save my soul, but I am ever so wicked and tainted and cannot bring myself to believe. I don’t know why I believe God is reaching me if I do not believe in God Himself! I am so confused, I am in a horrible state. I do not know what life is worth if I am to just be eaten by worms one day. Why must one lead a miserable life just to die and be eaten by worms? That does not make sense. Why must I bother staying alive, leading this absolutely agonising and useless life, if I am to just be eaten by worms? The devil himself has cursed me. How am I to believe I will burn in hell, that God is punishing me, that God is trying to reach me, and yet not believe in God?! Please, I am so confused, so unwell, I feel unreal and I don’t know what to do. I want to save my soul, I don’t understand why I can’t get myself to believe. Perhaps a demon is controlling me. I don’t know if demons can control people, I am certain I am being either controlled by something or punished

General Discussion I don't want everything to be easier, SO WHAT?
I keep being ran over this "do it with AI" thing.
It's all over the place. When I write, when I design, when I read, when I want to google something man!
I'm starting to fear some time in the near future I will not have to do anything at all without something making it "easier" for me.
I mean, for certain tasks or aims of course I can use it. I'm not on denial.
But not every time, everywhere!
So much "easier" is becoming SO UNDIGNIFYING!
Is it not????

Philosophy 🏛 What is the meaning of life?
“Memento Mori” is a Latin phrase translating to: “Remember you must die.”
The only thing you are promised from the moment you are born is the certainty that you will die. The clock immediately starts ticking, and no moment is guaranteed. It's the ultimate truth of the human condition. The end is non-negotiable. But this does not have to be a tragedy. Embrace your mortality.
Imagine a meal that never ends. If the plates keep coming eternally, eventually, you will get bored and sluggish. The beauty of a meal is its scarcity. The fact that the ingredients are seasonal and the table will eventually be cleared is what makes the first bite memorable and the last bittersweet.
Because our time on this earth is irreplaceable and limited, it carries heavy, beautiful weight. Every laugh you share with friends, every meal you share with family, every heartbreak you experience alone, these moments matter because when they are over, they are permanently gone. You do not get a second chance. When you die, you are dead. There is no guarantee of a light at the end of the tunnel.
Naturally, this presents a somewhat paralyzing question: What happens after death?
The honest answer is that nobody knows, and if someone tries to tell you there is a guaranteed answer, they are lying to you. But if you stop finding comfort in fairy tales and protective shields of religion, the void of death becomes a lot more terrifying. Maybe there is a God, or maybe when we die, there is just a quiet nothingness. We find ourselves in a completely indifferent universe. The mystery of it isn't an excuse to freeze up.
So I present you with another question: What is the purpose of life?
Viktor E. Frankl, an Austrian neurologist and Holocaust survivor, once said, "The meaning of life is to give life meaning." This resonates with me. There's nothing false about it. You are not given a purpose; you forge it. Yet, we as humans have an inherent need for purpose. It's just a psychological fact. When a person has a purpose, they are motivated and have a sense of direction that goes beyond survival.
In a universe devoid of inherent instruction, you are presented with a terrifying yet inspiring gift: you are the sole architect of your values and the author of your existence. You are not born with a talent. You make it. Some people decide to make that what pays their bills. Some decide to move on and focus on other things.
The point is, it is your life’s mission to find that purpose. No one is going to hand it to you on a silver platter; you must search for it, bleed for it even. What makes your existence worth the exhaustion of hard work? It is the only real thing you are here to do. Create a life you feel is worth living.
Do not wait for permission to live. The world does not owe you anything. Stop waiting for it to validate your seat at the table. You are here, and you are hungry, and you deserve to eat.

Being here What if our beliefs are just lies we've convinced ourselves are true?
As we go through life, we start seeing the world from our own perspective. We develop our own beliefs, opinions, and ways of understanding things.
But what if all we're really doing is choosing a lie that suits us best out of countless other lies?
And what if the reason we keep questioning, analyzing, and developing our beliefs isn't to get closer to the truth, but simply to make our own lies more convincing, even to ourselves?

General Discussion ~ When a Child Dies ~
There are times children die due to severe accidents, illnesses, or in other ways beyond our control. But many children die from preventable causes: war, starvation, or the dangers of living in a violent, insensitive, self-centered world. It is inexcusable for any child to die needlessly from something that may be prevented.
Any child's senseless death is a loss to all of humanity. Is one child's life worth more than another’s? Is the child of wealthy parent's worth more than the child of a poor, minority, immigrant parent struggling to survive? Is a Jewish child’s life more valuable than a Palestinian child? Despite our circumstances in life, does not every mother feel the same anguish with the death of her child?
Every child’s life, regardless of our many differences, is equally important, each intimately connected to the universe itself. The senseless death of even one child is a loss to all. There is never a reason to accept the death of a single child, for their life’s worth is beyond measurement.

Science 🧪 Discussing the biggest mysteries of reality with astrophysicist Geraint F. Lewis
Hi, everyone, I just had a great conversation with Geraint F. Lewis, a Welsh astrophysicist and Professor at the University of Sydney, about some of the biggest questions in cosmology, and our understanding of the world.
We explore what the Big Bang theory tells us about the beginning of the universe, why our current understanding of physics reaches limits when we try to look further back in time, and how neutrinos could reveal secrets about the cosmos — including why matter exists at all.
We then turn to questions that go beyond cosmology. What does modern physics tell us about the nature of reality? Could consciousness emerge in an artificial system? Is human intelligence an evolutionary accident? And could AI eventually become so intelligent that we struggle to understand how it thinks?
His latest book, The Shortest History of Reality: From Plato’s Cave to the Mind-Bending Discoveries of Modern Physics — The Human Quest to Explain the World, traces humanity’s changing understanding of reality, from everyday intuition and ancient philosophy to the discoveries of modern physics. It explores the ideas that reshaped our view of existence, from Newton’s universe to the strange probabilities of quantum physics and beyond. It became the inspiration for this discussion basically.
If you're interested in these questions, you can check out our conversation, hope you find it insightful, he's a great communicator of these ideas: https://youtu.be/38rUHEeAVHw

Being here A whole lotta nothing on a day
**Remember that you’re gonna forget. It’s fine to become fully enveloped in and by the story because the feelings that allows and inspires is also part of the fun. But looking and laughing and understanding the story from an outside perspective is also part of the fun. Do too much of either possibility and it becomes boring and stagnant. But always remember that this person that I am wants to experience beauty in all its highest forms. Also this doesn’t feel as resonant now that I’m writing it down. I can kinda see the holes in it, but we’ll see how I feel about it in the probably distant future but possibly near future. I can’t believe I’m just writing right now rocking in my little rocking chair this is the most active meaning most I’ve interacted willfully with interacting with my own ideas. I normally am either so completely enveloped in the immediate story of my immediate surroundings or completely lost in a completely different story than mine, with varying degrees of difference from my own story. It feels futile to believe that I’ll ever find complete satisfaction in something. Because I think I may always be searching. Sometimes even that becomes very goddamn tiring though. Although it’s probably not the searching itself that I’m experiencing as so exhausting but the tremendous effort I’m putting into becoming the kind of person that can experience all the types of beauty and stories this world has to offer. And while this life I’ve been experiencing has been very comfortable and safe, it’s only one of many possible experiences. I just realized that even the word/thought of safety is extremely loaded for me and I can feel it right at the heart/throat/and sometimes stomach area. The throat and chest combination brings a feeling of dread while the chest and stomach area bring feelings of anxiety. All of it is fear. Fear is one of the core human emotions right? Or not human actually, but animal. The animal who fully believes and is completely immersed in the story of their current body. And when I say animal I don’t mean the colloquial term referring to everything that breathes and isn’t a plant but is not also human an animal. Nah, I’m including humans in that animal category. But anyways speaking of fear yea it’s my major limiting factor. It feels too rational and too ingrained to just rise above it. Because the world is dangerous and bad things do happen right? But to what extent do we have control over that? Over anything in our lives? I was raised by someone who believed she had no control over anything ever. Who could never see beyond her immediate story and tried so hard to control it that nothing she truly cared about was achieved. Also extremely emotionally reactive and accusatory. She could never see beyond herself to understand that harm she caused. And as a small extremely empathetic and emotionally tuned in child these felt like bombs. Like living with the constant possibility that bombs will go off around you and the only person truly in your life making sure that you never step out of the story she has always believed in, knowing you don’t belong to that story, and being made to feel like you are actively and knowingly/purposefully trying to harm the person who is essentially your entire life. Everything feels like too much, there is no one to ask, you’re too sensitive and afraid and tired to even attempt living in your own body. So you start living in other stories. In childhood the stories are more hopeful and adventurous, growing darker and more about pain and struggle as you become a teen. At that point you have two modes going on. Dread and pain and fear if present, safe and mostly content if in your head experiencing stories/characters who are experiencing fear and pain. It’s almost like I was trying to feel my emotions without being in direct contact with them. You’re a step removed if it’s someone else’s story and not yours. Experiencing your own reality is painful so you go experience and try to understand other people’s reality, and work through some personal feelings in the meantime, though this separation makes the process of processing much slower. In any case, I have no choice but to go through the discomfort of being between identities because the alternative is not doing that and experiencing a very limited range of experiences and emotions life has to offer and those experiences skewing towards negative more and more as time passes and age and familiarity starts to take away some of the inherent fun in life. And that’s just not what I really want to do.**

General Discussion Is the apparent open-endedness of human desire a contingent feature of modern society, or does it arise partly from the structure of human cognition itself?
Human beings do not merely respond to immediate needs. We can imagine alternative states of affairs, compare our present circumstances with hypothetical futures, construct long term goals, and evaluate ourselves against standards that may not have any natural upper limit.
This creates a possibility that seems philosophically significant: satisfying a desire can change the person who desired it. Achievement may produce new ambitions; acquiring something may change our expectations; and social comparison may make previously sufficient circumstances seem inadequate.
However, this pattern does not establish that every desire is insatiable, that all satisfaction is temporary, or that dissatisfaction is an unavoidable consequence of intelligence. Some desires are finite, people can experience lasting contentment, and cultural conditions may amplify certain forms of striving.
The question is whether there is a defensible connection between our capacities for abstraction, imagination, future simulation, and self representation, on the one hand, and the possibility of indefinitely generating new desires, on the other.
Does philosophical work on desire, together with empirical research in psychology and cognitive science, support the idea that human cognition makes desire potentially open-ended? Or does this proposal confuse a contingent psychological tendency with a necessary feature of human nature?
I am particularly interested in arguments that could distinguish these explanations, rather than simply asserting that humans are naturally greedy or that desire inevitably causes suffering.

Existential Dread What’s the freaking point of everything?
It’s 6 AM, and I’m writing this anonymously because my brain has been stuck in an endless existential loop all night. I’m 19(M), and I just need to know if anyone else is staring at the ceiling dealing with this exact mindset.
The irony is that I’m usually the guy people come to with these types of existential or philosophical questions. I’m the one who listens to their doubts, finds the loopholes in their statements, and knows exactly what to say to make them feel good about themselves and their reality. But tonight, none of my own words are working on me.
When you look at existence through pure logic, it feels like an unbreakable paradox. If God is completely self-sufficient and omnipotent, He doesn’t NEED us, our recognition, or our worship. People say He created us out of a fullness of love to experience this reality, but we didn't ask for the ticket to get on the ride. From a standpoint of pure safety, if we never existed, we wouldn't have consciousness, we wouldn't feel pain, and we wouldn't care about missing out on anything. So why put us through the heartbreak, and the severe risk of Hell for a reality we never signed up for? Is this whole thing just a cosmic loop for amusement?
I’m too tired to debate theology or find a "perfect" logical formula anymore. I’ve hit the wall and realized there are no straight answers, I just have to accept the reality that I'm already here.
But it’s a lonely feeling when the person who fixes everyone else's perspective runs out of answers for themselves. Has anyone hit this exact philosophical wall, how do you step back from the edge and just make daily life bearable? More importantly, what’s your thought process when you question your existence?
(Also would appreciate a lot if I’m not given any religious advice)

Being here Life
So,all I want to say is that
Life is to live
Not complicating it
Well why we should be living a life which is set by others a rule i feel like for example:Getting married, Having babies, achievement
We can just live, exist, experience the life the way we want it to be,rather that by someone's else definition
That's all I wanna say
Let's all heal!
