Question REEntry

After being informed that you are being released from jail/prison how does one find housing? Who has it harder men or women?

Start before the release date if you can. Ask your case manager or social worker inside which halfway houses or transitional programs they refer people to. If you're going to be on parole or probation, your PO usually has to approve the address anyway, so find out early what they'll accept. If you're already out, call 211 and ask for reentry or transitional housing in your county. A lot of landlords run background checks and some programs only take certain charges, so the first place is often a program bed, a sober living house, or family, and the apartment comes later once you have a few pay stubs.
