I started applying to projects today, mostly based in Central Europe (Czechia, Poland, Austria, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia etc.) and was wondering how hard it is to land a project in that area, adding the Francophone countries. And in time, how much time does it take in general to find something? I’d be really happy if I could find something from January.

I’m Sara, a former EVS volunteer (yeah, that was a long time ago ahaha). My experience was in Croatia.

I’m currently doing some research on ESC/EVS volunteer experiences, I’m looking at the whole journey — how people found and chose their project, what the sending and hosting organisations were like to work with, how they were prepared and supported, and what the experience was actually like once they got there.

I put together a short survey to collect people’s experiences and hopefully identify some patterns across different projects and countries. Basically, I want to understand what tends to make the experience really good, what can go wrong, and what could potentially be improved for future volunteers.

But I wanted to ask before just dropping a survey link here: would it be okay for me to share it in this community? I know this is a relatively small/new subreddit, so I don't want to just barge in with a survey if that's not what the community is for 😅

And if it’s okay to share it, I’d obviously be happy to share some of the findings/patterns that come out of it afterwards with anyone who’s interested.

Hi everyone, I have a question. There is a long-term project, but it has no deadline. If I apply and go there for less than 59 days, would it count as long-term or short-term?

I applied for a few ESC projects without really expecting to get many responses but quite quickly two organizations replied saying that they were interested in my profile.

One day after the interviews, I got a call saying that I had been accepted for one of the projects. I asked for some time to think about it because I was still waiting for a response from another organization, and they gave me three days to decide. Since I didn’t receive any feedback during that time I decided not to take the risk and agreed to take part in the first project.

A week later, I received three more emails from other organizations asking if I was still interested in their projects. The problem is that I actually like their projects more than the one I already accepted and now I’m not sure what to do in this situation.

I haven’t signed a contract yet, but I don’t want to cause any problems. The coordinators seemed really nice and I don’t want to look bad or dumb after I already gave them my final decision.

It would be particularly nice to hear opinions from people who have organized this type of projects. What is the best thing to do in this situation?

I will be available in January.

When should I start applying? on the website if I filter by date there are only a bunch of projects, maybe it's too early?

I saw some projects "flexible about the starting/ending dates", should I apply and say clearly that I'll be available in January?

Also, I can not find a support organization, it seems like each one in my city is not updating their website/social networks/contacts since 2020... How can I solve this?

Hello everyone! Is there a way to work within European projects without being directly employed by a sending or hosting organization? I'm a freelance photographer and videographer, and I'd love to shoot documentaries or create video content about specific projects or hosting venues. Does anyone know if this is possible, or how I could pitch this idea to organizations? Any advice is appreciated!

Hey everyone! I've noticed that I'm mostly interested in humanitarian aid projects, especially those in African countries, as these positions fit well with my background in international development.

However, the mandatory face-to-face training required to apply for these positions is currently suspended (since February 2026), which I think is crazy. Do you guys have any updates on when the training might reopen?

My name and gender are not yet officially changed on my ID, I'm in the middle of a process of changing it. It might take a few months, as Poland is not exactly the best when it comes to that.

Are the organisators and co-volunteers trans friendly? I dream of going abroad and help, and I really wouldn't want to sacrifice my own personhood for that...

Is it normal for volunteer teams not to answer? I'm asking because I've applied for projects I'm really excited about. I worked on my motivation letter, sent emails expressing interest, and I'm still getting no answers, and it's becoming quite frustrating.
