Rare Learning Experience Today
Today, my main big freestone, large Montana river type. Low, crystal clear, perfect light angle. BWOs. It was like an aquarium, I could see 5-10 wild native trout at a time feeding from just below surface to 10+ ft deep. It was a rare special experience, which allowed for learning.
Main lesson, and it has been screaming at me, was tho I had on a micro leader and 5X tippet I saw in my sighter 20% of the eats at best. Definitely didn't feel any. Even tho I could watch my nymph and see each fish refuse or eat each drift, I couldn't react accurately enough to many of those eats. So subtle, so fast to spit the nymph out, way before any tension indicated an eat even in micro system.
