Rumour Jake Stringer

We know Jake wants to come back to Melbourne as his two older daughters are in Melbourne.
I don’t understand why some supporters are so against it. Jake isn’t perfect but he’s numbers don’t lie

Yes we should bring him back him back he had a good year at GWS 2026 performance
• 20 games
• 48 goals — the most at GWS
• 86 disposals
• 70 marks
• 23 behinds
• Averaged 2.4 goals per game and 4.3 marks per game.
Do you guys think a one year contract is worth it for a senior player ?
I want him to retire as a Bomber

No no no..

We're trying to build something positive now. Why the hell would we bring him back.

We're his own words that he wanted to play for a contender..

There's a bit of revisionist history going around about Stringer leaving Essendon. Here's what actually happened:

  • He played 36+ games across 2023-24, which triggered a one-year extension for 2025.

  • Essendon were only willing to offer that one year. Stringer wanted two for security.

  • Essendon wouldn't budge, and told him to explore the market.

  • He was traded to GWS right at the end of the 2024 trade period for a late pick.

It’s called football culture. We have had a terrible culture for years now. Why would we go backwards and bring back that loser.

Is the Bill Parcells dictionary definition of a "progress stopper"

(off field and character issues notwithstanding)

Anyone close to him, knows he's off. I used to see him at Deer Park Club playing pokies and drinking schooners all the time during footy season.

Sorry, I assume this was when he was at the Dogs ? He’s grown up quite a lot since then

We got rid of him for cultural reasons, GWS got rid of him for cultural reasons, the dogs got rid of him for cultural (and more) reasons.

Right now, culture is more important than football skill.

We got rid of him because of contract issues not his behaviour. Yeah he’s messed up before that
The biggest pro of bringing Jake Stringer back is immediate forward-line firepower without giving up a major trade asset. Any return would require absolute commitment to training, preparation and team defence. If the club has doubts about his professionalism then obviously no but I guess I’m looking at it differently.

It's only really negatives to being him back, a few extra goals this year does what?

Last year was Contract year for him. Bring him back for what? So he can cruise out the year and not instil good work ethic in our young blokes? There's a reason other clubs aren't touching him even tho he's out of contract and can be an absolute gun.

He wants to come back to Melbourne as his daughters with his ex are in Melbourne and I listened to him on podcast and he seems like he’s grown up ( I have a soft spot for Stringer) and I think having a player who can still play good football for a year is worth it.

If Stringer can net us 2-3 wins next year, I'd argue that is actually more valuable to our culture than just "playing the kids " for the sake of it.

We've seen this before with many struggling clubs. You need to LEARN and KNOW how to win footy games to actually develop the young guys into competent footballers.

Stringer is that guy who can take over games and deliver.

Silver lining is that Stringer is married to Mcveigh's cousin. So there is an established relationship there with Spike. Would love to see 1 year with Stringer under his guidance.

Everyone talking about culture. He seems to have been humble and grown up a bit. He’ll always have a bit of flare on and off the field but he’s a tough player when fit and experienced.

With Spike and Longmire, I’d expect expectations would be laid out from day dot - it wouldn’t be like it was under the Scott regime.

I want to see Kako do what Stringer does on the field (not the defensive side lol) - always know where the goals are and back yourself to have a ping. It being too long with Kako passing it off rather than having a crack himself.

It’ll cost us nothing, we will get an experienced goal kicker and he has the dawg about him to look after our young list should they be copping it from senior opponents.

So it’s a yes from me.

It's probably the cultural kryptonite aspect of the bloke. At least it is for me.

A few years ago when fixing up the culture was the big priority there was talk about blokes who were laughing at (a) young player(s) doing extra training to work on their kicking. You don't want that kind of shit around the club. Would you laugh at Steve Smith for facing extra balls in the nets?

I don’t want to dox myself but my uncle is very connected to the club. He said that Spike thinks highly of Jake.

Absolutely not. He’s clearly a detractor to how footy clubs would wanna build their culture, as he’s literally had issues at every club he’s been at. We’re not in a win now mode and the focus should be on getting games into our younger players to figure out who our future is.

Thanks but no thanks. Would rather we invest that list spot in youth/culture than a player that has been hating on us the last two years.
