Do we finally have a real goalie?

u/Whos-That-Pokeman 1d ago
Scrivens had a 59 save shutout in his second game with us.
We have no idea if Levi can hold the fort for a whole season as a starter.

You finally have a team that is playing defensively

u/Bob_Stauffer 1d ago
Being outshot and getting their bottom 6 caved in seems like that is not the case consistently yet. Great to get the wins agains the plug teams- that has to happen. Yet to meet a top 5 team.

The shots on goal do no reflect that. The Oilers are allowing way too many, and not getting enough. That is just poor play on the part of the Oilers. Levi won the game despite their poor play.

If they give up 100 shots a game who honestly cares as long as the shots are from the outside and the defense clears away any rebound. It isn't quantity that counts, it's quality

Oilers are 3rd best in limiting high-danger chances, the bigger problem is they are 3rd worst at generating high-danger chances. It’s a depth (and injury) problemÂ

So 9 high danger LA shots versus 2 Oilers high danger shots.
Mmmmmmmk.
Defense was ass last night.

Not according to the coach

Bet his eyesight is going, because what I watched was real bad. They got lucky.

u/Legal-Will2714 1d ago
They gave up one goal, and the Kings got a lucky bounce on that! What game were you watching? LA was on the outside MOST of the game, and rarely got two whacks on a play. Was time of possession in the Oilers zone slanted in the Kings favour? Yup, but that's what makes it a good defensive game for the Oilers. I'm not sure how you define "defense was ass," but last night's game sure wasn't it

The thing is when you give up 40 shots you're gonna get some lucky bounces. We got lucky that one shot bounces off Levi and trickled to the side of the net instead of inside it. We got lucky that Kempe missed the puck on the PP.
I think the defense was good, but we got a 3 goal lead and then kind of stopped looking for any offense, so we just lived in our d zone.

Actually Levi had a lot of luck going for him. LA had many high quality scoring attempts that just missed the net or hit iron. This was not a good defensive game by the Oilers. LA was having a poor night for shooting accuracy.

Do you guys even listen to Babcock's pressers? You should
1
u/UniqueRon 1d ago
I just watch the hockey game. I don't need Babcock or those talking head commentators to tell me what I see.
2
u/Legal-Will2714 1d ago
I guess you should run and tell Stan that Babcock doesn't know what he's talking about lol Some people 😅

u/UniqueRon 1d ago
I have no idea if Babcock knows what he is doing or not. I watch the hockey and the hockey players, not the coach.

How many Stanley Cups have you won? I'm pretty sure he knows what's going on. Perhaps more than you do. I'd tend to trust that when he says he wasn't happy with the game they played as a whole, but we're pretty good defensively

His name is an anagram for Devil, which makes sense because he is a demon in the net.

Our goalies have stolen very few points for us over the last few seasons… it’s incredible to be on the other side of it for once.

I’ve said for years now a solid playing defence can make any goalie look good! Imagine if the oilers played like this in front of of Stu and Picard

u/TyruntasaurusRecht 1d ago
Defence played like absolute shit last night. Levi won this game or they lose 7-4 easily. They got goalied and I havent seen that in so long in Edmonton.

They did play like this regularly before last year. Its just that Skinner and Pickard would routinely let in soft goals.

u/Careful-Region-6232 1d ago
True, a lot of his glove saves are like bubbles that bounce into the crease for a second chance last year with our goalies.

Well, he stole one last night that's for sure. Im getting closer to believing but its still a long season ahead. If the team continues to keep shooters to the outside play overall decent defense then I think he should continue to look good.

I've been saying for years all this team needs is Quebec average goaltending /s

That’s great and all, but why not include all 4 games in the stats, 7 GA in 22 shots? Still pretty good at 0.903

I don't want to be a huge buzzkill here, but the past few games we've played phenomenal defence and kept pucks to the outside. Hopefully that continues, but if it doesn't I don't think even Jedi Levi will save us.
I just worry he's going to get dragged the first bad game we have because we as fans are so reactionary - goalies are either dog shit swiss cheese or the second coming of Dominik Hasek with no on inbetween.

u/RumHamComesback 1d ago
It's more he hasn't let in any soft goals behind a defense that hasn't changed too much the last few years (Bouchard/Ekholm is still the top pairing) which is encouraging. But, yeah, we've had great defense thus far and we should be encouraged not expect him to contend for the Vezina or anything.

He won’t be contending for the Vezina, he will be winning it

Still facing a lot of shots and basically eats them in the glove. Ingram let them bounce and well Jarry.... I don't even know
