The Italian m3! Yes it has a dog leg trans. This is in excellent shape. Needs a few things done but nothing i would cry over. Can't believe I got my hands on one. Who knows when ill see another.

I’m going to be looking at an s52 swapped e30 soon and I’m looking for advice on what to look out for. I’ve owned many bmws (many 2002s, an e24, and an e46 m3) but I’ve never had an e30 or one with an engine swap. It started as a 325e and it’s supposed to have the following:

s52 swap from 97 m3 vert - 147k miles on motor

-Kassel tuned ECU

-ZF 5 speed w lightweight fly- same mileage

-2.93 LSD

-M50 intake swap

-E36 suspension throughout, 5 lug

The swap is apparently 5 years old and has roughly 2000 miles on it.

He said it has a few issues:

brake booster should be replaced because brakes don’t feel very strong

Rpm doesn’t work: not hooked up at the moment, cluster from a late 885 head car and is not compatible

The car looks very clean and has no rust. He’s asking 18k. Is this a fair price? I’m just a bit worried buying someone else’s project. If anyone has any advice on what to look for when seeing the car in person I would really appreciate it.

I'm debating with myself whether to engine swap my E30. Right now it has the injected M10, and for a weekend car, around 100hp just isn't enough. These are the options I'm thinking about:
Turbo the current engine
M42 swap
M52B28 swap
The M52 has by far the best power-to-cost ratio, aluminium block is light and there are plenty of those engines around in Europe.
The M42 is period correct, and there are lots of them from E36s, but finding the parts to fit one into an E30 is difficult, not to mention finding a complete M42 swap.
A turbo M10 is the most work (standalone ECU, rebuilding the injection system, crank sensor, etc.), and I'm not sure I can do it without modding the engine itself.
What I'm worried about is weight distribution after m52 swap since it’s a longer engine. I don't care that much about being period correct, but a turbo M10 sounds really appealing. On the other hand, the M10 is bad on gas since it's such an old design, and the M42 has its own issues too.
What would you do? Anyone here done one of these swaps? What are your thoughts?

Not too long ago, I bought a 1987 e30 in 4 door and in the wrong transmission with the hopes of swapping it to a manual. Long story short, it’s a great project car with no rust but I’ve lost the desire to do the swap with other projects in my garage. So, I need help proving it for sale.
The chassis has 310k on it but got a newer finer motor in 2022 so the engine has about ~80k on it. The swap was done very cleanly and I’ve had the car inspected at a reputable independent shop with only a couple known findings (radiator leak and power steering pressure side hose leak). I also put in some pristine sports seats in the car. Other known issues is AC isn’t working neither is the sunroof.

So I’m thinking about posting for $7k. Am I way off? I’m in Northern California.

I have an m52 2.5l from a z3 swapped into an 86 e30. It was running okay but now it will only start and run for a second and then immediately dies. I have checked and it's getting 12v to the fuel pump. 40 psi or so to the fuel rail. It has brand new fuel pressure regulator and new injectors. New spark plugs. I have tried a new mass air flow sensor and I have tried starting it with the maf unplugged with no changes. I'm stumped why it would start acting like this.

Hey everyone, I’m working on swapping my E30 with an M54B30 and currently sorting the fuel system. I have the E39 fuel filter with the built in regulator.

I’m just wondering where people usually mount this. I’ve heard people putting it in the engine bay but I’m unsure what the best spot for it is. Any help is much appreciated, especially if you have a photo of your set up I would love to see it!

Pretty much the title. While driving it sits below the centre line but the second I start to slow down it creeps up. I have noticed what I think is a coolant leak but I can’t find where it’s coming from, the coolant light also isn’t coming on and it does work. I was thinking the hoses might need replacing seeing as it’s a 36 year old car but I’m not sure.

Anyone know of common issues or fixes for this. Any help much appreciated 🙏
