Utopian/Dystopian book recs

I am looking for Utopian/Dystopian books that are not YA. I want full adult books with everything that comes with them. I really enjoyed Vivarium on Netflix and would love to see some liminal aspects of the utopian-style dystopia. I also LOVED reading and watching The Giver by Lois Lowry; it's probably my fav Utopian/Dystopian book of all time.
What I enjoyed about Vivarium on netflix was How the alian trapped humans to raise their young that was cool as heck and I would love to learn more about the infinate house maze and why they cant eacape

what i loved about The Giver is how everything is regulated even birth, and the plot twist with them not really having emotions and killing babies is crazy. I loved it so much and how jonas went and saved gabriel from death

Best dystopian books for a new reader

I used to not like books but fell in love with them recently after reading the 5th wave seried then the scythe series and now I just finished the entire darkest minds series and side books.

I absouletely loved the darkest minds series and are looking for recommendations like it or a really good dystopian book.

The main things I am looking for is firstly the book must be in a series and that it is a young adult fiction. And of couse is in the dystopian genre.

Also I have looked around for books allot of people say shatter me but I dont like it because romance drives the story to much so could the book preferably not be romance driven but can have romance as part of it like the darkest minds. And also not hunger games or divergent since i have already watched the movies.

Edit : Thanks for all the recommendations!

Self-Promotion Wednesday: Defriending the Librarian, week 2.

Defriending the Librarian, week 2. A dystopian noir serial. A disgraced cop, a suspicious suicide, and one shot at getting his old life back. Will he do it? Join me and find out.

This Week: Derek gets access to Otis Dykeman's workplace, and to the luxury apartment where that man died. His assignment is to the secret of Otis's code. But a giant bathtub and a near miss divert his attention.

Serializing on Ream Stories. Chapters 9-11 dropped for subscribers. Read up to chapter 8 free today. )

A taste of the prose from Chapter 10:

She leads me to the end of the row, to a dark office four times the size of hers. Entering the space makes me almost thankful I work in Data. Despite its size, the room smells like a boy’s junior-high locker room. With no luck, I strain to try and breathe Shirley’s perfume again. Apparently unmindful of the overpowering odor is a man in a dirty T-shirt with the FastBack logo across the front. Shaggy brown hair pointing in all directions, he hasn’t shaved for a week or so. Tiny glasses do little to protect his baggy bloodshot eyes. It’s a typical programmer’s uniform. Some of my coworkers dress better on a fifth of his salary. His round face reveals he’s as well fed as Shirley.

Details:

  • Standalone mystery with dystopian bones: privatized policing, tax enforcement as street muscle, and a city that's cold in more ways than one - New chapters every Wednesday on Ream).
  • Ream subscribers read new chapters a week ahead of free readers. Wednesday to Wednesday, both the new and free content keeps growing.
  • The novel is complete. This isn't a WIP. The whole book is written and edited. You're watching a release schedule, not a writing process. Final chapter: January 20, 2027.
  • Happy to answer questions about the world, the writing, or the Gray Zone in the comments.

I'm Anthony Torrero Collins, the author. Derek is usually immersed in his work. But this one time he chooses water first.

Question for the sub from the free tier: Would you let a wealthy stranger into your home the day her brother died, on the strength of a job you're not allowed to take?

The Noose is Tightening. The Clock is Ticking. Every secret leaves a trail. Every desperate path leads straight to Hunter.

My first dystopian transcentric 🏳️‍⚧️novel.
Every secret leaves a trail. Every desperate path leads straight to Hunter.
In a chillingly plausible near-future where a sweeping political noose targets the trans community, the rules of survival have changed overnight. Across the state, an older couple, Siobhan and her wife Claire, make the agonizing choice to abandon everything and run, embarking on a harrowing, high-stakes flight to outrun a government-backed manhunt.
Yet their moves in the shadows—unwittingly yet crucially—provide the exact lifeline and tactical advantage needed by Hunter’s key ally. Separate lives, hidden motives, and distant dangers are quietly hurtling toward a single, explosive convergence.
Tasked with anchoring the chaos, Hunter finds himself at the dead-center of a labyrinth where every coincidence is a trap and every second counts. His pulse-pounding, twenty-four-hour escape across two continents—and the staggering truths he reveals to the world—sets Washington, D.C. completely on edge. As the subplots snap together into a devastating final picture, the lines between victim and survivor completely vanish.
The threads are winding tighter. When they finally tangle, will they form a noose to catch them all... or a lifeline to free them all?

Hi! I'm Jeremiah White - I write weird dystopian novels

This being a fine Wednesday I'd like to introduce myself and my craft.

Girl in the Womb - In a future where food is scarce, children have to pay off their birth debt before being officially born at ten-years-old. Until then, Madison has to stay tethered to her mother.

Thin Is In - in a dystopian future where anorexia is considered the new beauty standard, Jack must save his 6-year-old sister before she is transformed into a hollow shell of brittle bones.

If you like character-driven horror in your dystopian novels, these may be for you.

Self Promotion Wednesday- Burger Wars.

Burger Wars: Fast Food. Fast Wars. Genre: Dystopian Satire / Dark Comedy

"Black Mirror meets the drive-thru lane." (Dorset Echo)

FLAME-GRILLED JUSTICE. DEEP-FRIED DEATH.

Twenty years ago, fast-food behemoths Ron’s Burgers and General’s Chicken decided that assassinating health-conscious TV chefs was just good business strategy. Fast forward through two decades of corporate escalation, and the high street has turned into an open war zone. Recruits don tactical body armour, trade mortar fire for menu supremacy, and proudly lay down their lives for free extra-value meals for life.

Enter Marcus.

He isn't a hero. He isn't a veteran strategist. He’s just a four-star shift worker who went into the walk-in freezer during a shift in the early 2000s and got accidentally preserved at minus eighteen degrees.

Thawed out into a smog-choked wasteland where drones scan retinas for unlogged assets, the grease is pressurized, and the propaganda is turned up to eleven, Marcus just wants to find out what happened to the girl he loved. Instead, he’s slapped with a spatulated rifle, diagnosed with "Fryer Fog" and drafted straight to the frontlines of Camp Burger.

In a world where the choice is simple, grill or be grilled, Marcus is about to learn that the menu isn't the only thing getting cooked.

(I've had trouble posting the book link before, so I'll post the link as a comment- I really hope you like the premise, even if you don't buy the book!)

No Wednesday promo post? Maybe I’m just a little early, but I always forget 😅

Tomorrow Book 2 of my Human Husbandry series gets released, and to celebrate Book 1 is $0.99 in the US until the 19th.

A world where humans can legally be turned into livestock. Book 1 was about human cattle and milking stock. In Book 2 we follow ovipositors, sheep and adipose stock.

If you’re ready for more crazy dystopian body horror, check out HumanHusbandry.com.

But be warned... don’t sign any contracts 😈

Barb Smith v1.2.6 - Literary fiction (Speculative/Dystopian/Sci-fi) December 2026

Post image
1 Upvotes

"Genetic engineering tinkers with the wrong soul."

There are many versions of ourselves. Barb Smith is about to discover the one she never imagined. One in a world almost familiar – but now not so much, with the continued roll-out of the android-administered National Gated Suburbia (NGS) transit stations that separate wealthy gated communities from the rest.

One where the humble clothesline is an ancient underground symbol of defiance, a brilliant Data moko–wearing leader watches from the shadows of an underground collective known as Obscurus, and Hermann Hesse’s The Glass Bead Game has been brought to life as Brutal Ludi—a high-intellect coding sport played with the violence of pro-wrestling. It's also a world that sees Barb's beloved hometown, Currander River, chillingly renamed as Willington Downs Canal - CBS24008, her family dramatically split, her life threatened, and her only escape made possible by the family's devoted domestic android robot named Neville.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Barb Smith v1.2.6 is meditative, imaginative, and gentle, but at the same time, with the issues it explores in regard to how we may live centuries from now, also a funny, dynamic,
page-turning novel.

Triggers: Profanities, sexual identity, internalised identity crisis, combat violence (terrorism), displacement.

Exact date of publication: 14 December 2026

The date you plan to send your ARCs to your team:

  • Early-November: Your secure digital copy (EPUB or PDF) will be distributed straight to your email inbox.
  • 21-Day Reading Window: You will have a full three weeks to read and enjoy the book.

What if Greta Thurnberg set climate policy for the the next 20 years?

That’s the story I tell in my novel Scob Nation.

Set in 2045, Scob Nation tells the story of a world drunk on untethered climate morality.

Roads have been replaced with electric Jim Crow-i-dors, whose access is controlled by Big Tech algorithms.

Temple-implanted communication discs change colors based on climate virtue: green for virtuous, black for those marked for reprogramming.

Above it all stands Blonden Viate, the Climate Overlord, who runs the Scob Nation reprogramming camps and Probitas correction centers. He and his organization are committed to “fixing” climate denial.

And when we visit Stoink Farm, the world’s first CO2 and methane-free bio-meat farm, things get really weird.

Scob Nation, available on Amazon.

Looking for Recommendations

I'm looking for recent dystopian books that emphasize hope, they can still be dark but I'd like an ultimately uplifting message. Queer and/or disabled characters a plus. Thanks!
