Meta Welcome to our community! Please read our FAQs first.

Welcome to r/dogfree! We invite you to participate in our discussions. First, however, whether you are new to our sub or a dog lover who just doesn’t quite understand where we are coming from, please take the time to read our sub FAQs so you can come to understand our community and the type of content that is appropriate for our small but mightily active corner of the world.

Why don't you like dogs?

Because: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogfree/comments/7bk3wo/just_curious_what_is_the_reason_why_you/

I created a post asking why you don’t like dogs. Where did it go?

We receive and remove this question just about daily. This is our community's space to vent and commiserate about an unpopular opinion, not a place where we come to feel burdened with the task of having to justify ourselves constantly. If you would like to know why we don’t like dogs, you may read the link above and/or put some time and effort into browsing our sub.

It seems like the problem you all have is really more with dog owners. So you really do like dogs, just not irresponsible owners, right?

Our opinions are varied. However, true to the name of our sub, and though it might be a tough pill to swallow, we in this sub simply don't like dogs.

If your gripes are more about dog owners and not about dogs themselves, r/dogculturefree might be a better fit for you.

I like or own dogs. I just want to show you guys that not all dog owners are monsters. Can I participate here?

Please understand the intent of this sub. It is a place for people who dislike dogs and who unapologetically wish to be free from them in our everyday lives to commiserate, not for those who love dogs. Posts and comments mentioning that you love or own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub.

In any case, we are not here to debate, as we won't change our minds.

I have to live with a dog, but I don't want to. Am I welcome here?

You may participate here from the perspective of someone who wishes to change the prevalence of dogs in society at large. However, please understand that hearing about dogs' disgusting behaviors and habits is what people come to this sub to escape, not to consume. If you wish to vent about the traits of the dog that you live with, please navigate to r/TalesFromTheDogHouse and direct your post there. r/Dogfree is reserved for discussion surrounding our unwitting and unwilling participation in dog culture at a societal level.

I have a dog, but I wish I wouldn't. Am I welcome here?

If you got a dog and now, as obviously expected, regret your decision, maybe you can help grow the supportive r/DogRegret community. You still may participate here but posts and comments mentioning that you own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub. Of course, if you already got rid of your dog and are now dogfree, you are welcome to share your experience.

How do you feel about service dogs?

Although all dogs are dogs, there is a wide spectrum of opinions about service dogs in this sub. Some people are completely okay with them, while others are opposed where technology can do the job in a more effective, less obtrusive manner. The same would be for police dogs and other types of working dogs. Calling us "ableists" or other similar insults is not going to help your case.

If you would like to find out more information about this sub's opinions on service dogs, instead of creating a new post to pose the question, please enter "service dogs," "police dogs," or whatever info you would be interested in finding into the search bar to search the sub.

Someone on Reddit said that this sub likes to murder dogs. Is that true?

Of course not! We span a wide spectrum of reasons for disliking dogs, but we do not wish harm upon them and often find aspects of dog ownership to be more cruel and unethical than do dog owners themselves. In fact, our first and more important rule is against content that advocates animal abuse of any kind. It reads: "No suggesting, depicting, joking, wishing for, or celebrating violence or harm to dogs, other animals, or people. Promoting cruelty is not acceptable." We take this rule more seriously than any other, and we err on the side of caution when it comes to removing this type of content.

Some examples of off-limits content include depicting gratuitous violence against or amongst dogs, discussion of eating dogs, suggestions of deriving pleasure from a dog's death, and references to culling dogs, hitting, kicking, poisoning or shooting a dog with little or no cause.

It is okay to discuss the justified, humane euthanization of dogs. If you've had to live with a significant other's dog for years and wish to express relief over its natural passing, that's okay. Really, context is everything.

I posted a dog-related screenshot of something I saw on social media. Why isn’t it showing up?

Our community is small but extremely active. As the amount of content can be increasingly overwhelming as the sub grows, it’s important that the meaningful discussion does not get lost. Therefore, we have a sub rule that reads "[s]ubmissions should be thoughtful and should promote quality discussion. News articles and text posts are encouraged. Pictures of dogs or dog-related items, videos of dogs doing gross things, social media screenshots, memes, title-only posts, posts with minimal text, and anything that might be just ragebait are some examples of low-effort content that do not contribute anything of value to the conversation."

If you would like to post a social media screenshot or anything else that might fall under this category, please better create a thoughtful text post addressing the core issue in order to open the discussion.

I sent a post/comment linking a great video I watched in the internet, but it has been removed. Why?

We have a blanket rule that disallows links to social media in general, and videos in particular. The reason is very simple: as mods, we don't have the resources or time to check whether the video and the rest of the linked page comply with our rules and those of Reddit. If you need to mention a video, you can either describe it, or just indicate how to find it online. Also, please see below question about endorsing YouTube channels.

I think it would be fun to make a rude comment to a dog lover in another subreddit and/or tag r/dogfree. That's a good idea, right?

No, and please don’t! If we want dog owners to leave us alone on our subreddit, the first thing we should do is leave them alone on theirs. We encourage positive, civil, thoughtful conversation about dogs wherever you go, but if you need to vent, keep it here. When you troll other places on Reddit, it invites unwanted attention, reinforces negative stereotypes, and impedes our ability to create change in the world. This community is better than that.

Do I have to feel a certain way about keeping other pets or about having children to participate?

The topic that unites us in this sub is dogs. Feelings about other types of pets, negative or positive, and decisions whether or not to have children are considered off-topic for the sub. That said, these topics will arise in the normal course of conversation. We should respect the wide variance in views on these topics and always treat those with differing opinions kindly.

At the end of the day, we are dog-free, and we are pro-human.

By virtue of this sub being anti-dog, it means we are pro-cat, right?

No. Per our rule, this is neither a pro- nor anti-cat sub. All cat mentions and references are off topic for this subreddit and will be removed. Do not attempt to circumvent this rule through rephrasing.

At one time, we allowed free discussion of cats. We are not exaggerating when we say that every thread turned into "why cats are better." Many people here dislike cats or feel neutral to them, so in order for this sub to serve everybody and to avoid any confusion as to what type of cat discussion is relevant to being dogfree, it is considered off-topic across the board.

And remember that other pets are off-topic as well!

Should I be a certain race or of a certain political affiliation to participate?

One of the coolest things about r/dogfree is that, in a world that’s so divided along so many different lines, this is a community where we can come together, break down those barriers, and unite over something different with people from all walks of life. Just as dog culture transcends racial, political, socioeconomic, and gender lines, so does this subreddit. You may even find that your reasoning for something dog-related challenges your views on something completely unrelated.

This community strives to be respectful of all groups of people. As such, bigotry is not allowed, and political discussion is divisive and off-topic. Dogs? Fair game!

Do you have any information about the demographics of those who participate in this subreddit?

We conducted a survey on this particular topic some time ago. You can view the results here.

Why all the pit bull hate?

As much as we dislike dogs, we especially dislike this class of dogs that is statistically most capable of and responsible for inflicting catastrophic and often lethal harm upon people and their pets. You can apologize for pit bulls all day, but the stats and anecdotes don’t lie.

Aggression Chart 2024

Pit Bull Triggers

Pit Bull FAQs

Of course, it's also true that all dogs are unpredictable: Dog Aggression Ladder

I know how I feel about pit bulls, but I need some additional information so I can make more articulate arguments. Where should I go?

For more specialized information on the topic of pit bulls, please visit r/banpitbulls. We have a very friendly relationship with r/banpitbulls, but please do remember that, while our subs overlap in many ways, we still have different objectives. Many people participate in that sub because they are tired of worrying about their own dogs getting mauled. Please feel free to go join the conversation over there, but remember that it is not r/dogfree and that the topic of discussion is pit bulls. Come back here to our own sub to talk about your distaste for dogs in general.

I saw some Facebook groups and YouTube channels about disliking dogs. Is that you, guys?

Nope, the only groups run by this sub are r/dogfree and r/TalesFromTheDoghouse. We don't operate or endorse any YouTube channels, Facebook groups, or anything else on any other social media platform. Our subscribers may mention their content here as long as it follows sub rules, but we are unaffiliated.

I saw a post or comment I think it's against the rules. What should I do?

Report it! On any post or comment, there is a "report" button. It will prompt you for further information as to why you are reporting the content to the moderators, who will then review it and determine whether or not it should be stay or be removed. Reports are anonymous and very helpful, as we can't see everything.

We also ask you to please never engage in any argument with a troll. Just report and go on.

Someone alluded to a conversation in another subreddit about dogs, and I really want to go down vote everything. Should I?

No, please don’t! This is called "brigading" or "vote manipulation," and it is against Reddit's Terms of Service. We actively discourage this behavior, as if we are found to be the source of a brigade against another sub, it could land us in big trouble. If you stumbled across a reference to another conversation on Reddit, the appropriate place to discuss that would be here, in our sub, in the thread in which you found it. Remember how it felt when a YouTuber made a video that resulted in a massive brigade against us; we must grant others the same respect for their space as we wish for ours, no matter how vehemently we disagree with them.

Our sub is committed to abiding by all Reddit Terms of Service.

I want to crosspost something from another part of Reddit. May I?

No, we have a rule that reads "crossposts are not allowed. Criticisms of other subreddits are off-topic." Besides calling usually-unwanted attention to other subs and promoting vote and participation brigades, it's off topic. The purpose of our sub is to discuss dogs, not the behavior of other subs or social media platforms. We don't appreciate it when others do it to us, so we have a policy of respecting other subs' right to exist and operate in the ways that they see fit.

My post or comment was removed, and I don’t feel like I broke any rules. Why?

Unfortunately we cannot account for every contingency in the sub rules, so moderators do reserve the right to remove content at their discretion. That said, the moderation team is very much against arbitrary censorship and is committed to letting the conversation happen whenever possible. "I don’t like it" is not a good reason to remove a post or a comment; however, "it would be in the best interest of the community" is. The team is committed to being firm but fair in community moderation and will make all decisions in good faith.

I found an article and posted it on r/dogfree, but with a different title than the original because mine is better. Now it's been deleted. Why?

Please remember that when you link to an article or news, you must always use the original title. If you want to comment something (and we really hope you'll share your opinion with us!), please use the text box or the post's comments. Thanks!

I agree with your sub and I want to create a new account only to participate here. Should I?

Bad idea! This is exactly what trolls do, and that is the very reason we have a filter against new accounts and low karma. Trolls are vile cowards by nature, they don't want to get downvoted, risk the reputation of their actual accounts or get a reddit permaban, so they use a secondary account or create a new one and think they can outsmart us.

There is no way to bypass this filter, so please do not ask us to make an exception only for you. Learn here how to get karma.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know our community! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to message the mod team. We are delighted to receive your advice and suggestions, provided they are expressed politely.

Barking Demons Dog was on my flight home, it was awful

Need to rant to others that feel the same way. My husband and I returned home from vacation last week and of course a woman had to bring her "service" dog with her. This was not a seeing eye dog or something along those lines, I have no problem with properly trained dogs who perform a legitimate service to those that are disabled. This was one of those "emotional support" dogs that have the generic vest and are clearly untrained. The dog was seated in an actual human seat and started barking at a toddler who of course started crying. Between the screaming kid and the whining dog I almost lost my mind.

Seriously, I can understand having a genuine service animal who is trained but this was just someone's pet. My mom used to work at an eye clinic and she told me the genuine seeing eye dogs sit quietly and don't cause problems. This was clearly not the case.

Relationship / Family Baby was upstairs crying his head off while dog was getting attention.

• Upvotes

I brought my baby over to my cousins house, who just had here baby. She had the cutest little girl ever. Short note my cousin is a younger mom. I’ll just leave it she’s younger than 20. Def gets a lot of criticism from her family. She was upstairs with the baby needing help cause she had, some complications during birth so she can’t walk well right now. Of course, I helped her. But what happened was; My cousin’s baby was upstairs crying while everyone was downstairs giving all their attention to her stupid mutt, cause she doesnt want the thing anymore and honestly, watching that made something in me snap because I know exactly what that feeling is like. I deal with the same thing with my husband, who will give his dog all the love, attention, and concern in the world while I’m upstairs alone with a crying newborn, trying to hold everything together.

It’s a special kind of loneliness when you’re struggling with a baby who needs you, exhausted and overwhelmed, and the person who’s supposed to be your partner seems more concerned about an animal than the woman and child who need him. I desperately need my husband to show up for me and our baby. It’s not really about the dog as much as it is about feeling abandoned by the person who should be standing beside me. His dog is an absolute beast, though. Untrained and thinks he runs the house. Apparently I’m a horrible person for not wanting the dog around

Crappy Owners Youngest child stepped in shit in our driveway

That's basically the whole post. I'm so freaking annoyed. We just came home from school and got out of the car in our driveway. Youngest steps in shit almost immediately. Shoes are the worst to clean I had to grab a toothpick to pick the shit out of the grooves manually because a gloved hand and a lysol wipe with my fingernail wasn't doing the trick. IN MY DRIVEWAY. Time to install security cameras. We have no less than 3 dog owners on our block but I already know it's definitely not one of them

Crappy Owners Dogs at TCG shops, why?

More of a rant, since there isn’t anything to do except stop supporting the TCG shop.

I frequent a TCG shop in the Portland OR area, it’s a good time and the folks are great there. But then this person with a dog started showing up. This is a late 30s single woman who brings their dog EVERYWHERE. They always bring the dog for TCG nights and board game nights. My friend hangs out with her and quietly complains that the dog is c blocking him and is a nuisance when he goes out with her since it always tags along. At the shop, it’s no different: The dog is incredibly annoying, it smells awful, barks and goes under the tables sniffing around as you would expect from a dog.

Unsurprisingly, the dog owner is unapologetically defensive, her baby is a good dog who always stays by her side and doesn’t bother anyone. Except for the nuisances I described, and the fact that the dog is constantly getting treats and attention in the middle of games. The dog owner is always half tuned in and really breaks the game momentum. It sucks to play with her.

Now it’s no secret I straight up hate dogs, I don’t pretend otherwise. My wife happens to be allergic to dogs, like “she will go into a full asthma attack if she’s around a dog for ten minutes” bad.

Earlier this week, I brought my wife to play mtg commander with me, she was actually enthusiastic and eager to learn. We got her a precon deck and had a pod ready to go. So we’re just minding our business when dog lady strolls in and starts to park herself at a table next to ours. The dog immediately starts sniffing around and I turn over to their table to tell them my wife is allergic. Her response? “So..how allergic is she?” F off, like she is okay with making someone else uncomfortable as long as it doesn’t kill them?

Now, I’ve tolerated the dog lady when I came alone but on this night I was mad, I was rude to her, I made it very clear that her presence was not welcomed. My friends in the shop are nicer than me, they said nothing but the dog is definitely annoying. Since one of my friends wants to date her too (poor sap thinks the dog situation will get better), I couldn’t truly say everything I wanted to say about her dog codependency but I said enough that folks thought I was being the bad guy here.

Then, my wife unsurprisingly starts to react to the nearby dog and we cut our game short, start packing up when the dog lady suddenly decides to leave. As far as the game store goes, problem solved? No. The dander is still in the air.

We leave and barely get home in time for her to use her steroid inhaler and prevent an asthma attack. What a way to spoil the night.

Decided I was tired of this dog situation, I emailed the shop owner. I was very polite and made a reasonable appeal that they should look into excluding non service animals.

The response? “Our shop has an open dog policy, if you have an issue please call ahead and we can make arrangements for you or have the dog patron relocated”

Okay but that doesn’t solve the lingering dander, it also doesn’t make fucking sense because the dog doesn’t add any value to a god damn card game. Why does a dog need to be here, at all? There is no good reason to bring it inside. Yeah yeah there’s service dogs and I know the shop can’t stop them, but I can’t think of a single justification for a card shop to have an open dog policy. The owner must be a dog nutter themselves.

So that’s my rant; my wife says she won’t be attending anymore if there’s any chance dog lady shows up. The shop isn’t going to do anything about it. I’d really enjoy playing with my wife, so I guess we are going to find another TCG play shop that doesn’t allow pet dogs.

Dog Culture When a nutter's dog is sick

• Upvotes

You hear all about it because they wail about it nonstop. All the time they expect you to care about their mutt having a stomachache or some shit. Adults will literally break down crying and go to the ends of the earth if their shithound is sick.

Yet I never see the same reaction for other humans. I've NEVER seen them shed a single tear over their sick child, parent, spouse, or any other family member. If their family member is sick, they make it seem like an enormous chore to take them to the doctor. Yet these people will speed to the vet and go into debt over their sick mutt.

They will tell everyone nonstop about how sick their dog is. They will miss work, lose their minds, start crying and shit. No reaction when it's for their own family though.

Barking Demons Remaining Dog Free while Traveling … Hotels?

I ended up in a nightmare hotel driving home from a trip. I got stuck in traffic & was too tired to complete the trip, so had to make an unplanned hotel stop. I didn’t see dogs while checking in, but the floor of the room was filthy, and I was just too tired to try to switch. Walked around in a pair of socks that I threw away before leaving. When I left the next morning, dogs were everywhere. Got on the elevator - people got in after me & their dogs were fighting. I never want to repeat this mistake… so wondering…. Does anyone know how to avoid this? I’m looking online at hotels and almost every hotel is “pet friendly”. I called a hotel … told them I have allergies to pets & asked if they have rooms that are guaranteed pet free (like no smoking rooms). They said they don’t. This is ridiculous.

Crappy Owners Thus has to stop

So someone I know just came over and told me about how this guy I know who's belgian, whatever attacked another baby animal, were not allowed to say here until it was dead in a public park. When the dog was done with that, it started to go after another smaller dog that it noticed, until the people witnessing all of this went and grabbed the thing to stop it! The dog owner just walked away and left his dog to follow him home since the dog wasn't listening to his commands at all. I asked the dog owner why, and he said simply, "Well, it was the dogs instinct like for a squirrel or whatever. Plus, she's just so fast!" Well, that same dog attacked his boss's other pet, and it cost him 1500 in emergency vet bills. Then, that same dog, (off leash for every attack) ran up to an unsuspecting sleeping smaller dog that was sleeping in the grass at the same previously mentioned park, on its leash next to its owner who was enjoying our 4th of July outdoor concert, and proceeded to start attacking it. When will it stop?! And when will the owner learn to stop letting it off leash, knowing what the dump dog is capable of? Animal control has been contacted, but I'm not sure how much proof was given to them, seeing as how the dog is still around.

Crappy Owners They just can’t seem to stay off my property!!

I’m spending $20k for a new front yard and new driveway. The driveway will consist of concrete pavers so the workers packed it down with gravel. It’s nicely prepped and install will start tomorrow. Do you know a dog comes by and the owner allowed it to take a shit on the prepped driveway. I got on the speaker of my Ring camera to try to get them off but it was too late. I’m seeing red right now. I should have went outside to make sure she picked up every last remnant and to make it as uncomfortable as possible so they avoid my home in the future.

Dog Culture Nextdog PissedBRAD pitt Hates Dog Kisses

So, today I was reading my local Nextdog and people were stating how they cried just from the trailer of Pitt's latest mutt movie. Of course everyone was making sure the mutt didn't perish and had a "happy ending" even though it's basically an AI dog.

Someone quoted the actor as having a problem during the shoot of the movie with invasion of his personal space and the dog licking his face. He really didn't like it. The comments ensued that it was too bad because up to this moment they had envisioned him as "being perfect" but now that it was known he "doesn't enjoy dog kisses" they were going to stop watching his movies.😑

***here are some "cliffhangers" from NextDog:

Amazing movie!
Saw an interview with Brad Pitt and he told the interviewer that he does not like dogs licking his face. During the filming he had to get over certain fears of his dog being “up close and in his personal space”. I agree, there needs to be an award for the dog.

oh, poor Brad. His face gets licked and slobbered over a lot in this movie, lol

dang , and I thought Brad was perfect, lol!

yeah, Brad gets a demerit for not liking dog kisses on his face, lol

Crappy Owners Self entitled dog owners

Why are many dog owners so self entitled? Like everything their dog does is fine and should be acceptable. I was in a fruit and veg store today and a man brought his puppy in to see someone who worked there. The puppy got very excited and pissed all over the floor. But then he just stayed there with the dog finding it amusing saying "whenever you're ready to stop weeing!" And later left saying "our work is done" here. It was all jokey and the puppy was cute but it was gross. A fresh produce store with nothing packaged. I sincerely hope they weren't putting anything dropped on the floor back in the baskets 🤢 I wish I'd spoken up....

Food Safety/Hygiene This disgusting plague has found its way into the minds of your average person

There is a bit of a crisis going on in my country at the moment, amidst other things. I decided to bring attention to another issue within our country-aka allowing dogs of all kinds (service or non-service, mostly the latter, as nobody here owns or uses service animals) inside restaurants, cafes, eateries, malls, and grocery stores. People place their crazy neurotic mops on chairs and inside shopping carts. Sometimes, those neurotic toilet mops disrupt hygiene and peace by shoving their snouts onto the table where utensils and plates are placed (aka the very same ones people eat using/from…), and constant high-pitched yapping, respectively. I said such a law should be abolished because it is a severe threat to hygiene, food safety, and safety of the visitors, as many people are allergic or just cynophobic, and those toilet mops are mostly unleashed and unmuzzled, and allowed to roam freely and even come sniff you by their (entitled, in this aspect) owners.

I was met with insults, and told to just avoid restaurants that allow dogs, when I literally explained how it is a health hazard for EVERYONE involved. Those people told me how I am entitled and I am only saying that dogs are dirty because I dislike them, which is RIDICULOUS. Dogs are quite literally filthy, they carry germs within their saliva, and bacteria like salmonella and E. coli. I had someone tell me that according to my logic, humans shouldn't be allowed to enter either because they can carry disease too?! Which is just ridiculous and dense, because your average healthy Joe does NOT carry gross bacteria in his saliva nor is contaminated with salmonella or some sort of toxoplasmosis equivalent. 🤮 And yet, those people simply REFUSED TO LISTEN, and just kept spewing this nonsense all while downvoting my post!!!

Like, okay. Have fun having your meal served with a side of shedded crusty fur and le heckin' doggo eye yeast, then. 🤢 Unbelievable.

Dog Culture I love going on walks but people with dogs ruin them

I moved to a city for the first time in my life and I love going on hikes and walks. Every single day there is a bad dog owner there. They keep their dogs on a 2 meter leash and expect everyone to like their dog.

Yesterday I was on a walk and this man walks with two huge dogs. He lets the dogs be on like 2 meter leash and there is no way I can get past them while the dogs are pissing in the bushes.

So I stand there looking at the owner dead in the eye while he lets his disgusting dogs to smell the bushes. They finally started moving again and I went like to the bushes because I am afraid of dogs and the trail was narrow.

And this sort of thing happens every day. And I get very pissed off. Today I was walking and a dog and his owner walking towards me and the dog starts barking and I look behind me and I see this tiny dog running off leash inches away from my ankles. I start running and this man (the ting dogs owner) comes past me all smiling and I just roll my eyes at him.

Barking Demons A crazy day today

It was crazy I was waiting for my bus and suddenly saw a fight erupt between a mentally insane person and a delivery driver. While they were arguing loudly a dog had to announce itself and bark nonstop during the entire confrontation. So imagine the stress of seeing two people get in an argument and you got barking going on to top it off.

It doesn’t end here because at the end of the day yk how you have to have a rest and sleep but my neighbour’s dog has been barking nonstop and it really messes with you mentally. Like I just moved homes recently and im paying $1800 in rent just to hear that noise when im trying to sleep?

I just hope one day (ik this will never happen because it’s as rare as seeing a unicorn in the sky) i can meet someone who’s also dog free. But this day will never come

Miscellaneous Gym closed because of a dog

I have a pretty tight morning schedule, and I have two hours in the morning to get to the gym after it opens, work out, come home, and shower. I went to the gym this morning, and while I was walking in, the guy that's usually at the front desk stops me outside the building and tells me that the gym is closed because a mutt is in the gym and started to attack him when he tried opening the building. He said he called animal control but they don't open for another hour. HOW DOES A MUTT GET INTO A FUCKING GYM?????

RIP my morning workout.

Crappy Owners Simply Unbelievable-

Today, I decided to pull weeds in a small patch of mulched shrubs that adjoin the sidewalk that runs through our neighborhood. As usual, my petfree neighbor spots me and comes over to chat. She is a big gossip, so whenever she comes out she is prepared to spill the neighborhood secrets, which I generally decline politely to listen to past a certain point.

I actually am truly grateful for her because she and her husband are adamantly dog free as opposed to two other neighbors with yappers who have to be picked up for barking at me whenever I set foot in the back yard.Their owners are at least responsible and will put them inside if we are eating or having company outside.

Well, today as I worked and my neighbor talked, a lady dogwalker came along with her mixed breed large dog on a leash. Of course, my neighbor knew her and they struck up a longwinded conversation right in my work area. The dog was alerting to me the whole time, and I was minding my own business. The dogwalker starts talking about the mutt, of course- and the neighbor eggs her on. Then, the lady says how protective the mutt is of her and how it NIPS her husband and grandchild. She was proud of it! I nearly blew a gasket, stood up to move away and the dog barked aggressively at me as I stood. No apology. No common sense to move on. Thankfully I was done with that patch and walked over to get my garden hose, effectively turning my back on her and the neighbor. I'd also retrieved my long, steel weeder in the process.

I cant believe that dog nuts can't hear the way they sound to sane people. Why would anyone tolerate any animal that bites their loved ones, and then pick up their crap every day? And WHY would you ever brag about such a thing??? My neighbor came over guiltily after dog lady left to continue a conversation, but she could tell I was turned off. People who play into these people's mental illness is a big part of the problem. I refuse to cater to dog nuts.

Crappy Owners I’m that “asshole” in my neighborhood

And I’m completely fine with it.

This is specifically targeted to dog owners who walk out in public with their dog unleashed. There’s an infuriating amount of people in my neighborhood that do it. No, I’m not going to be happy when I’m walking outside and your unleashed dog runs up to me, barks at me, or gets all up in my space.

No, I’m not going to smile.

I’m not going to go, “hey, buddy!” in a baby voice

I’m not going to tell you how cute it is.

I’m not asking how old it is.

I’m not petting it

However, I WILL:

Not smile

Hiss at it to go away

Back up

Call you out if you just let it violate my space

Tell you to put that dog on a leash

Call you inconsiderate/selfish if you defend your action or try to make me out like I’m some asshole

And walk away

I just don’t care anymore about stuffing it down or holding it in. I realize it makes me feel better calling them out and having a little verbal conflict than to just stuff my feelings down to appease them and avoid conflict.

These dog owners are so used to others just smiling and enjoying it when their unleashed dogs run up to them. Like their dog, they get rewarded and encouraged for their bad behavior. So I guess I’ll be that rare bite of pushback they get.

And if me calling out that I don’t want your big, dumb animal running up to me and violating my personal space makes me an asshole, then so be it. I’ll be the king of assholes here.

Dog Attack A neighbor's dog bit me

I was walking in my neighborhood going on my daily walk, and there's always this dog in the neighborhood that harasses me. It's a large dog that lunges at me and jumps on me and pulls on my clothes. I didn't think that the dog would bite, even though in the past, it gave me painful scratches from jumping on me. But this dog, had the balls to actually bite me and hold onto my arm for a few seconds. It barely broke the skin just a light scrape but the bruises were bad. I had a deep bruising on my right arm from the dog forcefully holding my arm in his mouth. My whole forearm was black and blue. The only thing that protected me what's the fact that I had on a sweater And a jacket, so multiple layers of fabric were protecting my arm or it probably would have been worse. These neighbors have seen their dog harass me on multiple occasions. They will usually apologize and put him up, but they just let him right back out to harass me again the next day. I think that their dog bit someone else in the neighborhood because now they finally have him in a fence. The dog is aggressive and goes around the neighborhood. Trying to fight with other people's dogs and chasing cars and people it sees.

Dog Culture Dog Owners are Insane

I was on Instagram scrolling, and I saw a video about some dogs who ate their owner's body after they died. Someone commented, "if i died, and nobody found my body and my dog, i hope that he would eat me. i hope he knows that i loved him enough that its okay to not starve, to nourish his body with mine, and hopefully be found before im all gone, so he doesnt have to go hungry 😔" WTF!!! That's an exact quote of the comment. I'm not even exaggerating. How do people think like that? It's mental illness. It's like they have some kind of brain worm causing them to worship the dog to this high of a degree. So disgusting and insane.

Relationship / Family Am I the only one that thinks this is stupid

In a nutshell- I don’t have a dog, my cousins all have dogs. We are all in one big family group chat. When the dogs birthdays come around they all wish the dogs. I do not wish the dogs because:

  1. it’s a dog
  2. it’s a whatsapp group chat
  3. the dogs don’t have whatsapp

I mean I’ll be happy to go see the dogs on their birthdays, but please why am I being called disrespectful and rude for not sending bday messages on the chat

Legislation and Enforcement LEASH. YOUR. FUCKING. DOG.

I live in a bigger city in germany and my god I just need to let my frustration out right now.
For years I have endured random ass dogs running at me, running at wild animals in a park, running into the street, running at little children and scaring them, etc.
I DO NOT CARE HOW NICE OR TRAINED OR CALM YOUR DOG IS. PUT IT ON A LEASH.
You are LEGALLY REQUIRED to do so for a god damn reason. The only place you can have your dog of a leash is on private property where the owner lets you and a designated dog park.
God the entitlement is always pissing me off so fucking much. "Oh but hes nice", "Oh but he hates leashes", "Oh but hes only playing".
I do not give a single fucking shit. I wish I could call the police whenever I see a dog off a leash but I know that I will not be taken serious by the police because even they dont care about enforcing the leashing rules.

Crappy Owners Why are people taking their dogs in Walmart?

Every time I go in Walmart now I see people with dogs. It was not this way 10 years ago. They put them in grocery carts and push them around. It's so gross and weird to put an animal in a buggy where people put their food. Many people are also allergic to pet hair so its just selfish and inconsiderate. Sometimes they even poop on the floor. 🤢 I thought it was against the rules to have animals in the grocery store unless it's a service dog? Ive seen this topic brought up online and If you say anything about it, people get angry. People will say, well, my dog is cleaner than most people. And if people can bring their bratty kids in the store, then I should be able to bring my dog. It s weird how much these people hate kids and think dogs are even comparable to humans. It will not harm the dog to leave it at home for half an hour.

Barking Demons Dogs make the world worse

Without dogs there wouldn't be shit everywhere.

Without dogs there wouldn't be barking 24/7.

Without dogs I could walk in the street without fear of being attacked by someone's dog or a street dog.

Without dogs I could walk in the sidewalk without being jump scared by the dogs in peoples homes.

Without dogs I could go to the park without being afraid of getting bitten.

Without dogs I could go to peoples houses and not have to deal with their dog.

But honestly the thing I hate the most about dogs is the noise pollution. I have had so much peace stolen from me by barking dogs, either street dogs or someone's house dog barking constantly. Just imagine the peace there would be acoustically without dogs. I hate how loud they are how they can bark for hours on end like what an obnoxious and annoying animal.

Barking Demons Poodles and their lookalikes are a disgusting disease

I'm back with another monthly/weekly "I hate poodles and their lookalikes" post. Yup, it's me again. And they keep giving me more reasons to get mad about the damn poodles. It's always, always the poodles and their lookalikes; bichons, Maltese, maltipoo, Shih Tzus, Yorkies, ya know, all that belongs to the "neurotic ratty toilet mop" category. But poodles are especially annoying where I live because everyone is crazed about those inbred monsters in Azerbaijan lately and they are everywhere. In every advertisement, food establishment, park, mall, grocery store, whatever, you name it.

I really, really hate poodles. I actually loathe them so much. They are such jerks. They attack everything and everyone, and constantly bark/yap at everything that dares to exist within their precious space. They are annoying and look/smell like neurotic toilet mops. They actually disgust me to no end and make my ears and eyes bleed because they look and sound grotesque. They always just yap yap yap. Endless annoying high-pitched yapping or howling. So damn disgusting to listen to. Sounds like a broken damaged audio file.

They have those empty, soulless evil eyes that look like a pair of soggy olives. Just a Frankenstein's monster that resembles a toilet mop with nasty stains under their eyes, paws, and mouth every time. The crust just never comes off and the owners don't even bother giving it a clean before placing the soggy shaky mop into a shopping cart where our groceries go to minutes later. They constantly shake and shed their crusty oily fur everywhere. They look like a horror Victorian amalgamation. They actually make me feel unnerved and unsettled. Poodles give me a horrible uncanny valley feeling and heebie jeebies.

We should stop breeding or buying these child replacement dogs that genuinely do not belong in a modern society.
