Official Doomer Thread
What’s your doomer take after these 3 atrocious performances by Dave Roberts and the team? Will you be watching them get swept tomorrow?

I'll be there, too. I've actually been to every one of our games this post season except games 1 and 2 in Milwaukee (was out of the country), but I'll be at every remaining game in this series as I've got tickets to them all.

I’ve watched them get bounced from the playoffs countless times. Why stop now?

My main Doomer vibe about this series and sort of the Postseason overall is that it feels a bit like the Dodgers just sort of started to believe their own legend and defaulted to a sense of "It'll work out because we're the Dodgers". Just this perpetual sense of "We won back-to-back doing what we do" blotting out the reality of the situation they were in.
In so many ways the Brewers have just looked amped up and prepared and striving to have answers to every problem, while the Dodgers energy has come across more like "The bats will connect eventually I guess"
It is still broadly true that if there is a team that is capable of digging out of 0-3, I think they have that pedigree. But they just seem tired, too and like they just don't want that smoke at all.

my doomer take is that the doomers are the actual fans that have been watching all season. were dooming because were mad persistent and serious issues this regular season were never even tried to be addressed. Thats why we see bleakness. all the anti doomers make me mad, like were not being unlucky, were being outmanaged. bad.

u/NumberKey5118 9h ago
Maybe the dodgers do need to get some young bloods in who are hungry. Dosnet need to be a complete overhaul but Kyle Tucker playing the best this post season shows that he was hungry and wanted it a bit more. Granted I know they must be tired from back to back long seasons.

Grateful for this legendary run. B2B champs. Not our year but that’s ok. In 2020 we were down 3-1 and i would’ve been destroyed if we lost again but this year is different. We’ve been winning but dont forget that most of the time our team is going to lose. We’ve been here before. We always bounce back the next year and keep fighting. Love this team and love this sport. Brewers fans are feeling great right now and that’s awesome for them! It’s cool that whoever wins this year will break a long ass streak and make a lot of fans really happy. I think that’s good for baseball in the long run.

My doomer take is that I feel vindicated in not going to many games this year.
It is too damn expensive to go to games now and I’d feel like a complete moron if I paid that much money to go watch my team look horrible in the playoffs
Other than that, it’s baseball man. Brewers are good. Our players aren’t playing well.

How’s this for a take: you asked me after 2018 if I’d take 3 championships in 5 years in exchange for another 32 year drought I’d take it. See y’all again in 2057!

The doom/reality is we may never see the dodgers 3 peat in our lifetime. This was the shot.
Honestly tho that doesn't bother me as much as knowing this is the last year with this fun spirited team. The vibes will be different going forward. Rojas, Kike and Teo could all be gone and that seemed to be the fun backbone that carried them through tough times/games and allowed them to bounce back in the past 2 yrs. There's still a lot of talent with more left in the tank but it's going to be a different vibe. And maybe it's time for that change

Honestly I love this for the brewers they have been building momentum for the past 8 years. However your first sentence is what kills me as a Dodger fan because that’s why I’m bummed because this is our shot to do it and we are paying for the talent to do so.

u/Superb-Sun-4835 8h ago
Damn. You’re the adult in the room. I loved Wheel of Fortune cameos -Kiké Freddie and Miggy are a riot! and behind-the-scenes family videos—Teo is a great dad. You’re right-the vibes may never vibrate like this again. We take a team photo to capture this moment of joy, it doesn’t last. I will forever love these players-not just generic Dodgers. But the 24/25 World Series heroes. Remember when they gave Gavin Lux his ring after? They love their real homies for life. Me too.

Hard to even doom. They are being dominated in every facet. It's less painful than losing a close series

I was at the game today and I’ll be there again tomorrow.
I don’t have a lot of hope that they’ll be able to pull out the win to avoid a sweep.
Roberts, Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Smith all get a pass.
Ohtani, Tucker, Pages, and Smith will make up the new core. Betts and Freeman will stay until they’re done.
The team will need to get younger on the bench and at RF, 2B and 3B.
Not sure if the team can keep Skubal and retool their line up. They have to get younger, plain and simple.
Dodgers have to manage Ohtani’s, Betts’ and Freeman’s playing time next year.

Malcom Gladwell describes the sentiment in his book David and Goliath by stating, "I’m distressed by the injustice of the person who should win not winning."
He elaborates on this theme by noting that "the pain he felt was so much greater than the pain that those who never thought they were going to win would have felt had they lost," referring to a favorite athlete who loses. Gladwell argues that we "automatically assume that someone who is smaller or poorer or less skilled is necessarily at a disadvantage," often overlooking the fact that "underdogs win all the time."
Key aspects of his perspective on this topic include:
- The Psychology of Expectation: Favorites suffer more from defeat because they have invested in the expectation of victory, whereas underdogs often find their losses less painful due to lower expectations.
- The Underdog Advantage: Gladwell suggests that being an underdog "changes people in ways that we often fail to appreciate," as it "opens doors and creates opportunities" that might otherwise seem unthinkable.
- Re-evaluating Strength: He challenges the notion that giants are invincible, pointing out that "giants are not what we think they are" and that favorites often "screw up" while the weak win.
That's how I feel. The pain of being the favorite and crumbling is worse than the pain of an underdog falling short. Yes, the Brewers are good, but more importantly: they're hot, and the Dodgers are cold. I'm very disappointed in this team slumping and choking all at the same time.

u/CallMeFloofers Decoy 8h ago
As a fan of Cal football, I can tell you that being an underdog, then thinking you might just have a chance, and then losing, is way way way worse than thinking you should win and then blowing it.
We've had a great run. I'll hold out hope for a Cinderella comeback here in '26 but if it doesn't happen we will always have '24 and '25, and we can always "wait til next year."

Nice try attempting to herd the doomers together. They only like infesting all the normal threads like a pack of dementors, feeding on human happiness, hope, and peace.
2
u/Cyrilicioushawk 9h ago
Doomer take: this was probably inevitable that they’d hit the wall at some point this season with all of the baseball played in consecutive years plus the baseball classic which means basically a majority didn’t have an off season. They needed to manage this season lightly and they ran into the ground. I think a rest benefits them so much going into next year
1
u/Roblizzle 9h ago
I get they had to lose sometime. I would have liked to have seen some fight. It’s not fun just watching the entire team just fold like this.
This does not look like a team that scrapped their way back to back titles nor one that would win one next year.

Idk personally I haven’t really seen crazy dooming on this sub during the playoffs I just see people pointing out serious legitimate issues and trends the team has shown this year.
I feel the org is smart and we have a good farm system so we will be fine long term as long as this team continues to regenerate and not stagnate.
I mean if a down year with old and injured players is 100 wins and an NLCS appearance for us is a disappointment but for most teams is an amazing year. Standards are different here

The camera panning through our lineup near the end of the game looked like a bunch of disappointed middle aged dads in a parent teacher conference. Need to inject some youth into this lineup in the offseason or we are washed for the foreseeable future

Ohtani isn’t just injured I’m convinced he is also sick with something cuz homeboy looks like Ursula stole his soul.

Depressed by the offense. Sucks the season will be over tomorrow. Hopefully the front office realizes the offense is the problem and focuses on rebuilding it.

I will never understand fans who emotionally hedge their team. It’s cowardly and lame
2

Okay seriously though, don’t come on a sports team Reddit if you can’t handle a few differing opinions. You’re insane.

u/Ok-Rhubarb-9058 Player To Be Named Later 8h ago
The parade is not for you.
1
u/xFnaiC 8h ago
You still don’t get it. There will be no parade this year. That’s why this thread exists. To let a little emotion out and have a laugh after a tough 3 losses. Go to bed.
1
u/Ok-Rhubarb-9058 Player To Be Named Later 8h ago
It’s fine if there is no parade. That is the statistical probability of baseball. The magic is in the in between of probability. That is what doomers don’t understand. I have heard for two years how this team isn’t shit and we’ve won two championships. So yeah, doom away, the odds are on your side. The rest of us will cheer for the splendid improbability and y’all will never know true joy.

Proper rebuild needed. Need a young core too. And change in hitting philosophy.

My tin foil hat tells me this is a forced loss as a short term, strategic maneuver so that the economics of MLB compensation and revenue sharing proposal gets squashed

Bunch of soft and pampered guys that have won too much and think taking multiple months off for either load management or questionable “injuries” have made this team soft

My doomed take is that they aren’t going to keep winning championships forever. Sucks to lose but it’s part of the game. It is impossible to win it every year. I’m thankful the team has winning culture and is in the position to realistically try and win it all every year, to that I’m thankful for.
