MODPOST A belated happy pride month! (We did a thing)
We've added a new set of user flairs which are (to varying degrees) subtly queer coded. A rainbow is just scattered white light, so that's what the flair colour is set to.
We're two weeks late to the party because we were unable to complete the set in time and we're still missing one. Please let us know if you come up with a great user flair that also hints at some man-on-man action.

CONVERSATION Maybe its just me but does Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks remind you of the Doctor at all?
I would have to say 8 specially. They both have this optimism (well early 8 did before well...everything) this childlike wonder, let it be Coop's love for the trees or the Doctor's love of humanity finding coincidences in anything.
I've often wondered what would have happened if one of the doctors was dropped into Twin Peaks.
I could see (or I suppose hear) 8 take one sip of coffee and say, "Hm Charley you have to try this. I usually don't go for coffee but this marvelous"

CONVERSATION Thoughts on the Azorbaloff?
I liked the idea of a monster made by a fan or a kid, but you can obviously tell it was.. still, I think it's pretty good :) even if it is obviously silly and you can't really take it seriously. I love it when he's like "You'll get absorbed!" Or "He'll die, doctor"
Now a few obvious questions:
- If the Abzorbaloff's whole purpose is to .. absorb, then why do we only see the faces of those in the episode? Are we meant to believe this was his first time doing this?
- .. Why is he Scottish? So silly
- So, in the episode all of the absorbed people defeat him by basically concentrating really hard. There's a few problems with this
Wouldn't that mean that the more people he eats he gets weaker, not stronger?
Also: His whole motive is to find the Doctor, so he can absorb him. But if just some normal ass people can beat him by thinking.. imagine what would h happen if it was the Doctor Who is so old, and so smart.
Doesn't make a lot of sense.
Discuss :)

CONVERSATION Story time on the most awkward confession of all time (image related)
So uhh... I used to make fun of my friend's fictional crush for two WHOLE YEARS. I was calling him ugly, asking her constantly how could she love him even tho he was a terrible person. It had gotten to a point in which I had created whole inside jokes for him. My friend did not mind since it was all friendly teasing and stuff, if anything, she was laughing at some of my jokes and was actually happy to explain why she liked him. It was all sweet and rainbows till I had made a joke. I made a joke about how she'd make fun of me if I showed my new fictional crush... It was all fun and games till, for some FUCKING reason, I decided to show her... I was embarrassed the entire time π
...
I will never forget that face of pure confusion and concern and that "Why...?" that came out of her lips. She was baffled completely. Fuck, she was probably ready to wipe her glasses with a tissue to make sure she was seeing things right. So, to prove that I wasn't kidding, I pulled out a few text messages. Couldn't show half of them 'cause the sexual jokes were too many and graphic πππ
All I could do in that situation I willingly put myself in, was repeating the "You just don't get it, man" phrase. But, was I supposed to say anything else? I will never trust a dude who thinks that women are only there for the looks and the wealth.
Funniest part, her fictional crush wasn't even that ugly. I just didn't find him attractive, that was all, when my own has/have no redeeming qualities besides the lack of misogyny. Hers at least had feelings. I am the biggest hypocrite in the whole world. Never showing anyone else. I'll delete this later, I still cannot live with myself after that... extraordinary experience.

CONVERSATION Is the debate about Doctor Who as a kids show an Atlantic divide?
Iβm conscious that Doctor Who has always been family entertainment. Itβs something especially obvious in modern Who, but looking at how many Doctor Who toys & comics existed during the classic run Iβm sure it was the case back then too. I hear a lot of Brits talk about first getting into Doctor Who around 12-13, maybe even earlier.
But that has always surprised me on a gut level simply because Doctor Who does NOT pass as family entertainment in the US where I grew up. I got into it was a teenager (15 maybe?) & even then the horror elements shocked me & the thematic darkness around things like the inevitability of death, that edge, felt like something I mostly associated with adult entertainment. As a child it felt like an adult show because even edgy kids shows I watched were never that gross or intense. Even the kid friendly horror shows I watched like Courage the Cowardly Dog is a great deal more tame than Who.
So when I hear people overseas talk about watching it as children, on some level it still surprises me. Does Doctor Who feel intuitively like a kids show to British audiences? I am mostly familiar with more grown-up British media, is the kind of horror/darkness that reoccurs in Doctor Who more common in media catered to British kids than their American counterparts?
Just a theory- genuinely curious how other people feel about this!
