Been saying the past 4 to 5 years i was gonna get myself a bike. Had bikes in my younger days but nothing faster than an 80cc.
Iām going to be getting myself a Yamaha yz250. I am aware itās very powerful for first time and i of course will take it easy and learn correctly and not overdo it.
Just want to know what full safety gear to get and if you guys have any tips and tricks for mods that i can make from standard fresh out the shop. Havenāt had a bike for years so im a little unsure about all this again.
So bloody excited to start this next year been talking myself in to it for years and now i make great money i have the opportunity to get myself a new bike. And have a car with a hitch so will get a trailer also to take it to tracks with me.
Thanks guys
Edit* also any tools i might need on me also, Iām a mechanical engineer but might to purchase other things for it

I took the right side off this afternoon and expected to see a broken shaft or something but I donāt see anything obviously wrong. The gears donāt touch so Iām wondering if the gear is the wrong size? Any help is appreciated

Ok. Iāve almost settled on this bike. Just need someone to tel me if itās a bad move. This was an auction buy, so I donāt know the previous history. It sound like the current owner just rides it around his yard. It needs tires, rear brakes, the number plates are missing, some of the plastic is cracked, and the exhaust is some random thing that sort of fit, but clearly isnāt meant for this bike.
All that being said. I test road it and it seemed to ride well. Enough power for my needs, which are chasing my kid through the woods and slow speeds. And it seemed to fit me well, it is the RF model, so full sized wheels. I see them posted some what regularly but more in the $2500-3k area. So I figure at $1800 I can ride it as is, and replace things like the exhaust later on (which I would probably do anyway).

I find it refreshing and different to ride alone from time to time. I know it is a big no no for few riders I have met along the way.
What do you think?

Was tightening my chain on my KLX 300r and didnāt tighten the axle bolt hard enough so right when I dump the clutch for a wheelie chain yanked right off and then into my case š„². Yāall donāt be shy really torque down them axle bolts.

Just curious if anyone has any input. 2015 CRF250L, was riding some tight trails, hit my gearshift lever on a rock, bending it all the way back to the foot peg. After straightening the lever the bike now upshifts, but will click repeatedly when downshifting, but won't actually downshift. I ensured full range of lever movement. Did I break something internally?

Hi everyone,
Iām trying to decide between two bikes and would appreciate your advice, especially from people who have experience with both.
Option 1:
Brand-new Beta 300 Xtrainer
Price: ā¬9,000
Option 2:
2023 KTM 300 EXC Six Days
Used, with approximately 250 engine hours
Comes with some extra accessories/upgrades
Price: ā¬9,000
Iāll mainly use the bike for recreational riding in the mountains, forest trails, and technical singletracks. Iām not planning to race.
My main priorities are:
Ease of handling and rider comfort on technical trails
Reliability and maintenance costs
Engine hours and potential repair costs on the used KTM
Suspension performance and overall capability
Long-term ownership costs and resale value
Fuel consumption during typical trail riding
The Beta is brand new and designed to be more beginner-friendly, while the KTM is a higher-spec bike with better suspension and more performance-oriented components. However, the KTM already has 250 hours on it, and I donāt know how well it has been maintained.
If both cost exactly ā¬9,000, which would you choose and why? Would you go for the brand-new Xtrainer or the used KTM Six Days?
Also, are 250 hours a major concern on a well-maintained 300 EXC, and what should I check before buying one?
The Beta Xtrainer uses a carburetor, while the 2023 KTM 300 EXC Six Days has TBI fuel injection. How much more fuel does the Beta typically consume during mountain and technical trail riding? Is the difference significant in real-world conditions, and how much does riding style affect it?
Iād appreciate honest opinions from owners of either bike. Thanks!

Hey guys picking up bikes for me and my wife. Been years since Iāve been on a dirt bike one but we both ride Harleyās. We live in bc so it will all be trail riding, hills, single track etc.
Iām 6ā3ā 220lbs
Leaning towards a Honda 300f or 250 rx. Or Kawasaki 300r. I like the price on the 300r / 300f a lot better but wondering if Iāll get bored of it in a year and if the suspension will be adequate.
My wife is 110lbs around 5ā7ā I believe.
Leaning towards a Honda 125f big wheel or Kawasaki 140rl or the 230 rs
I think I want fuel injection so I think the rl is out for her but Iām not sure how big of deal that is. Been years since Iāve looked at bikes and just canāt decide which route to go. I want the same brand either way for both bikes Iām ocd like that.
Any input is greatly appreciated thanks guys let me know if Iām missing something or ask any questions! Buying something tomorrow hopefully!

Hi, this is my first time with a two stroke and Iāve been having serious clutch issues with this thing. The clutch worked fine when I got it from the seller about 3-4 weeks ago, and since then Iāve hadnāt touched the clutch at all cause Iāve been working on other stuff for the bike, however my clutch cable did snap so I got a replacement and installed it and it had tension and everything. Today I finally got to be able to ride it but I realized my clutch has some issues. First initially the bike would just straight up stall whenever I try to put it into gear (keep in mind Iāve done zero engine work for this), so I thought I needed some extra tension to be able to disengage it properly. I kept giving it tension but nothing helped it so I kept going, and eventually the actuator arm on the engine itself lost its tension and was freely moving around. I opened up my clutch cover and pulled out the little rod that connects to the actuator with the ball bearing and simply inspected it and then reinstalled it and it fixed that problem. However even still the clutch doesnāt disengage properly and itāll stall whenever in gear. I can barely move the wheel with the clutch in first gear, itās only like barely easier then just not pulling the clutch at all. I took the plates and separated them all and re oiled them and put them back in nothing still.
Would greatly appreciate help, thank you for anything that might be helpful

Iāve been riding a 1998 Yamaha DT175 in Medellin, Colombia for the past two years. I restored this iconic 2 stroke myself and have loved every second of riding it through the streets of Medallo but itās time to part ways.
Iām moving back to south Florida (Fort Lauderdale area) and I want to pick up a dirtbike. Since Iām new to riding on dirt, I was thinking of getting a CRF250F/KLX300R to become a better rider before looking at something else like getting into Motocross.
Thing is⦠there arenāt any legal trails for dirtbikes anywhere near me. There arenāt any south of central Florida if Iām not mistaken so that idea is kind of out if I donāt have a place to ride.
Would it be too bold for me to get a YZ250F/CRF250R and immediately get into motocross? Thereās the Miami MX Park and MotoBros in Okeechobee tracks that have beginner classes and Iāll actually have somewhere to practice and get better rather than having to drive absurdly far or find random backroads to ride the trail bike.
I appreciate any input apologies for the long message.

I bought a 09 YZ250F off marketplace a few weeks ago. I diagnosed it to turning out having a bad head gasket. I did the top end. I finally got everything done and ready after a few hiccups everything was put back together. Now it wonāt start, I couldnāt get it to start since I rebuilt. We timed it exactly how it should be, I replaced the timing chain, spark plug, and a lot of other things. The valves look fine when I poured gas over them. It cranks over just fine but doesnāt want to start, I cleaned the carb too.
Still nothing.. I donāt know what else it can be, Iām getting healthy spark, no wires are pinched. Iām tired of tearing everything apart just for nothing. I thought maybe it could be a bad valve spring? I just need some help other than AI.
