My Diamond Diamond larger than expected (too big??)
My lovely fiance surprised me with a 2.5ct natural asscher cut ring. I love it and I'm so grateful, but sometimes I feel like it looks huge! We had tried on 1.5 and 2 carats together when looking for rings, so I was expecting something closer to that size. He said he picked this one because you can see the steps/cuts in the larger asscher diamonds better vs the smaller ones. Does it seem too large for me? The place he bought it from would buy it back from us at a slight loss if I wanted to trade down a size but idk. I love it because he chose it for me and I guess I'm just a little self conscious? Can anyone relate??
Edit: Jfc đ sorry everyone is offended by my car for some reason. I was just trying to show the ring on my hand from up close, medium distance, and farther away for size perspective. I am very lucky and grateful to have these things and am genuinely not trying to brag. I'm actually feeling self conscious about the ring because I don't want to be too showy!! Thank you to the people with legitimate feedback

It's too small for a Porsche owner, however in a Toyota it would look massive. (Jk)

OP wasnât complaining. She just said she feels unsure about the size.

Itâs lovely and not âtoo largeâ but the unnecessary Porsche photo just sends this into humblebrag territory. Ewww.

Tired of seeing this preposterous bullshit. Does this diamond look too big. Do I look too skinny. Does the perfect curvature of my face seem too stark against the collar of my $20,000 Brunello Cucinelli lamb shearling coat (made by hand from wool harvested from baby lambs in Spain & kissed by angelâs breath & licked with unicorn spit). AITA for insisting on a $3million dollar 55 room mansion in the desert but wanting a natural grass yard? I. Donât. Even. Get. It. IYKYN & IYDK then puhlease FTLOG stop asking on forums like this which is really your passive aggressive âlook at what I have donât you wish you were meâ crap. Cuz guess what, âsis, the answer is NO - itâs absolutely not too much - not compared to your egoâŠ.

The shitty stick and poke line down the middle finger tells me she rebelled in her 20s from her rich family life to vagabond around the us, but ultimately settled back in to the comforts of the upper crust đ

I find it funny how these privileged people are still so desperate for attention and validation from complete strangers. âLobster too butteryâ ass people. Shows that money doesnât buy happiness or class lol.

Agree. And slipping in the Porsche steering wheel. Ho, your thirst is too big for a fire hydrant.

Porsches have such a wide price range but regardless, so many people post steering wheel pics of their rings regardless of the vehicle make.
-7
u/WhileCrafty2395 6h ago
Would you be saying the same thing if it was a Toyota? Have you never taken a pic of your hand like this in your car? Weird comment.
14
u/Rekeaki 6h ago
When you have money, you do actually stop and think âam I being an elitist ass by acting like this is nothing?â
In the same way you donât take candid vacation pics while sitting in international 1st class or a private jet, you take care to avoid conspicuous shots of expensive badges and brands when taking selfies or pics. ESPECIALLY if you are posting it to a general audience and not just close friends
Its called ânot being a dickâ
You will get called out and you will deserve it. OP should know better.

u/Adorable-Crazy-1067 6h ago
Yeah the car is one of the most common places I see these ring photos taken, funnily enough
6
u/waitwhat88 5h ago
Hahaha lol no, Iâve never take photos of ANY of my diamonds in a car, OR asked strangers for validation of them (especially âIs THiS tOo BiG!? đ).
What is actually weird is how many people do one/both of those things. Adding a fake Birkin or Cartier item is the extension of this sad habit.

u/VeniVidiVici_1960 6h ago
Come on. Why so judgey? So she drives a Porsche. So what? Itâs a free country. Maybe she put herself through law or engineering school and makes a great salary and she just wanted what she wanted. Good on ya, OP.

u/reality-bytes- 6h ago
No not at all. Asschers already face up smaller than other cuts. My 4ct asscher looks similar in size to my 2.5 ct round.

u/Bellebutton2 6h ago
lol, the nails subreddit wonât allow pictures of hands on a steering wheel.

No. Bigger would look even nicer. It looks a smidge small on your finger.

u/catincombatboots 5h ago
I think its the band that's a smidge small for her hands. Maybe that'll be sorted with the wedding band or whatever they have planned there.

Not sure who is more insufferable⊠people with obnoxiously big lab diamonds asking if theyâre too big or people with huge natural diamonds asking if theyâre too big. Either way it comes off as tacky and desperate for validation lol. Enjoy the nice ring sweetie. You donât need our approval.

It's in no way ostentatious or too big for your fingers at all. I think it suits your hand well.

Your ring is Gorgeous. I love Asscher cut and am in the process of having a 3.05 set into a hand engraved setting, Show it off! It looks beautiful on your hand. PS. Like your car too!

u/Due_Help_1639 5h ago
Itâs an asscher cut, it appears smaller than its carat weight already compared to other shapes. I genuinely donât feel like it looks like a âbigâ diamond. It fits your hand well.

u/ajot-c 5h ago
Idk why youâre getting so much hate? Like this is your regular life? So what? đ so many people take the same photos but god forbid someone is wealthy and do the same. Hypocrites are annoying.
ANYWAYSSSS ring isnât too big on you honey. Looks just right AND you have the lifestyle that makes your 2.5ct ânormalâ if u get what i mean.

Itâs so beautiful and believe it or not, you do go size blind! I wore a 1 .10 ct lined princess for 20 years then hubby bought me a 2.25 round and thought it was huge!! After 6 mo, I donât find it as huge!

u/polka-d-ott 6h ago
I have a 2.8 ct loose asscher diamond and I keep thinking itâs too small! Yours is gorgeous and makes me realize mine is perfect and I need to have it set.

This fits your hand great! Especially because your hand looks rather long and not small and dainty so it doesnât look big at all. I actually think it looks small fr.
2
u/catincombatboots 5h ago
You have somewhat fuller fingers (me too) and I think the stone size is matched to your hands. The band however, is thinner which might be what's making the stone look big. Are you planning to wear a wedding band too? I think the balance here would be great if this ring was in a small stack.

Itâs an older cayman (edit: macan) from the looks of it. Not too expensive tbh.

u/Just-a-mom-of-four 6h ago
That is just the right size on your hand! Sachets are one of those cuts that actually looks best over 8mm, so a 2.5-3ct is ideal.
2
u/Gloomy_Swimming8863 5h ago
It looks good on your chubby fingers. The fat supports the carat weight.

It looks perfect on you girl! I can relate definitely because we constantly look at our ring and pose our hands diff ways. It can put thoughts into our minds that either itâs too big, small, more diamonds, wish they bought a different ring, or itâs not sparkling enough. Donât worry! Itâs beautiful! everybody overthinks :)

I know people who have 3 carat rings. I bought a piece of jewelry recently from a goldsmith and the designer had a diamond that had to be 5 carats. It was ast least as big as my thum nail...

The comments are weird, I didnât notice the Porsche until I saw the comments. The cut looks great, the stone is beautiful and not too big. I would suggest a different nail shape/manicurist to flatter your hands more though.

u/Specialist-Win-8038 5h ago
Your ring is beautiful, not big at all. Looks great next to your Porsche steering wheel. If you are blessed to be able to have all these things in this lifetime, then you enjoy. People that canât afford these material things get mad at others that can, just pure hate. Misery loves company. I worry about my life and what I have, not what others have. People just love to judge.Â

In pictures it looks perfect but I totally get why you feel it looks too big in person. I remember trying almost the exact cut and carat on when we were ring shopping and it was HUGE in person but when I looked back photos it looked smaller. Just enjoy it! Congratulations!!

Itâs an absolutely gorgeous and perfect ring and the diamond is absolutely not too big! It looks perfectly proportioned to your hand. Keep in mind the shrinkage factor is real đ€Ș Enjoy and congrats! P.S. Haters will always be haters, just ignore. There are many other cars much more expensive than Porsche⊠Did they expect you to intentionally hide what kind of car youâre driving?!

I think it looks proportional on your hand, which is what I always focus on when it comes to stone size. I don't think you need to go smaller. But if it really bothers you, then size down. Do what makes you comfortable! Congratulations! đ

Your fingers are not very slim- I think 2.5 is too small to offset your natural finger fat. Not sure why you'd be embarrassed by a 2.5, those are a dime a dozen?

It looks like the perfect size in every photo except the Porsche photo. In the Porsche photo it looks way too small. Kidding kidding. Itâs beautiful. Congratulations!

Your ring is fine, asscher cuts look smaller so this looks good imo. As for the people triggered by the carâŠthereâs something about Porsches that really triggers people. When my husband and I bought our first, someone keyed it while we were out celebrating the purchase with my family. Just miserable losers everywhere. People take photos against their steering wheel all the time, but since itâs not a cheap car I guess youâre not allowed to do what everyone else does. Gotta protect feelings lol

Since you asked, my opinion.. 2.5ct is not too large. I would actually consider it small.
It is a very pretty ring. Dont go smaller, shrinkage is a real thing. Congrats on your engagement.

It's not big. It's perfect on you. I can't relate because I'd actually prefer it to be another 0.5 carat bigger.
