Discussion Latitude e6540 won't turn on anymore. Should I buy a parts laptop?

Originally opened it up to fix the sunken in power button. Heard a Pop and it no longer turns on.

If buying another E6540 isn't a good option, what's a good business Latitude?

Dell Latitude 3470 suddenly drops to 0.5–0.98 GHz and reaches 96–100°C after I moved the motherboard

Hi everyone! I need help diagnosing a problem with my Dell Latitude 3470.

Before this happened, Valorant ran smoothly on this laptop. I was trying to disconnect the SSD cable, and when I pulled it, the motherboard lifted slightly and then dropped back into place with a small impact sound. I did not visibly bend the motherboard, and I never touched the CPU or heatsink area.

After that incident, I noticed the following problems:

  • The CPU reaches around 2.70 GHz at idle, but drops to 0.50–0.98 GHz when I open Valorant.
  • A monitoring program reports temperatures of 96–100°C.
  • Valorant now runs extremely poorly, even though Windows still works normally.
  • My previous power settings no longer seem to work as they used to.
  • My battery now charges to 100%, despite previously stopping at around 96%.
  • I previously encountered a “PXE-E61: Media test failure / No Boot Device Found” error, but the BIOS currently detects the SSD and Windows boots normally.

The performance problems started after the motherboard movement. The laptop is currently with a technician.

What could cause these symptoms? Could this be a thermal issue, a power-delivery problem, a damaged motherboard component, or something else? What should the technician test before replacing any parts?

I would appreciate any advice from people familiar with Dell Latitude laptops.

Help Dell 5300 sometimes won't wake up

My son has a Dell Latitude 5300. After school he closes the lid and plugs in the charger. In the morning it sometimes won't wake up, doesn't respond when the lid is open. Pressing the power button doesn't do anything, holding it also does nothing. We just have to keep trying the power button for a few minutes, pressing/holding, until eventually it comes to life and the screen cycles thru red, blue, green etc. After that it can be switched on with the power button. This happens every 3rd or 4th day on average. It only happens when the lid has been closed for like 5+ hours, not during the day at school.

I've tried various power settings, set it to never hibernate etc. In the bios I set it to allow wake on lan, wake on power connected etc. But still the issue is there. I even tried to set a scheduled task at 6am to wake it up. Plugging it into a Dell dock doesn't wake it either.

One thing, when we got the laptop it had another issue where the wifi often wouldn't switch back on after sleep, I changed from Modern Standby to S3 which resolved that. I can try switching back but then I may have the wifi issue again.

I would appreciate any suggestions for how to resolve this! Thank you

Help Need Help – Dell Latitude 5480 CPU Stuck at 0.39 GHz

Hey everyone,

My Dell Latitude 5480 is stuck at 0.39 GHz, making the laptop extremely slow and almost unusable (freeze's).

The battery and AC adapter are both recognized correctly, but the issue persists. I've already tried the following solutions:

- Holding the power button for 30/40 sec.

- Using Throttle-Stop to disable BD PROCHOT.

- Checking the BIOS settings, including Intel SpeedStep and Turbo Boost.

- Reinstalling Windows (downgraded from Windows 11 to Windows 10). On windows 11 speed was stuck at 0.40ghz & now in Windows 10 speed is stuck at 0.39 Ghz.

Unfortunately, none of these methods worked in my case or has fixed the problem. The CPU speed remains stuck at 0.39 GHz.

Has anyone experienced this issue with a Dell Laptos? Could this be a BIOS, motherboard, power delivery, or sensor-related problem?

Any suggestions or a working solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Help Laptop won’t turn on+ fan is going crazy

Hi, so my laptop was working normally all day today but ran out of battery so when i got home, i plugged it in.

The problem is that when i plug it in, the fan starts going insane but not charging? The screen or keyboard won’t go on it just starts making fan sounds.

The same thing happens when i press the power button.

The orange light stays solid when i plug it in or press the power button which ik means critically low battery? But it just won’t charge.

What’s the problem? is there smth i can do? Tbh i don’t rlly have money rn and i can’t afford to get it fixed so i’m really stressed.

Also i think my charging cable might be the problem cuz ik it isn’t working but i tried my friends chargers and it still doesn’t work.

Discussion Dell hates Money - rant

I had a Dell Financial account before it moved to Comenity. After the transition, my account remained open and in good standing with a zero balance. Eventually, they closed it for inactivity. Fine.

Today I wanted to make a purchase, so I tried to reopen the account. Apparently, closed accounts can’t be reopened. I tried applying for a new one, but the system wouldn’t let me because my email address and phone number are already associated with an account.

I called the Dell Pay number listed on the application page, 866-395-9796. The automated system asked for the last four digits of my Social Security number, then told me my account was closed and couldn’t be reopened before hanging up.

I called back and eventually reached a representative. I explained the problem, and he suggested applying with a different email address and phone number. I have another email address, but not another phone number. I tried using the alternate email anyway and got the same result: my phone number is still tied to the old account.

I asked whether they could update or remove my contact information, or open a ticket so I could apply. The representative said they couldn’t do that and suggested contacting Dell.com. Dell’s chat bot couldn’t connect me with a person or help with the issue; after I asked for a representative too many times, it ended the chat.

How is this supposed to work? A recycled phone number could belong to a legitimate new customer, but if it’s still linked to someone else’s closed account, they may be blocked from applying. There should be a way to remove outdated contact information or escalate an account-linking problem.

End rant.

Help Dell G15 Ryzen Edition - Freeze glitch & reboot loop

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell G15 Ryzen Edition facing a critical issue.

Symptoms & Behavior:

The PC boots fine in Safe Mode. If I uninstall the NVIDIA driver, the PC boots into normal Windows without any issues. However, as soon as Windows Update automatically reinstalls the NVIDIA driver, the PC instantly freezes and reboots in a loop as soon as it tries to load the desktop, often accompanied by pixelated screen artifacts.

What I tested so far:

• Dell ePSA hardware diagnostics: PASS (except a dying battery warning).

• CrystalDiskInfo: SSD health is 97% (Good).

• Tested without battery: Physically disconnected the internal battery and ran it on the AC charger alone, but the exact same freeze/reboot loop happens at the desktop.

• Linux Boot Tests: I tried booting from a Linux Live USB. In ISO mode (GPT partition), it failed with a black screen and an 'error file' line. In DD mode, it stuck on a black screen with a frozen, non-blinking underscore.

• GPU-Z Test: During a brief window after the driver reinstalled, I managed to open GPU-Z, and the system was able to read all the GPU data perfectly. But the second I tried to launch a graphically demanding software, the laptop instantly shut down, rebooted, and went back to freezing at the desktop.

Given all these symptoms, what do you think is going on? Could it still be a hidden drive/SSD issue, or is it a permanent hardware failure? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Help Alani spilled on my laptop!!

I was in class and my alani spilled onto my laptop. It was only the bottom portion and it was across the palm space and some went on the touch pad but not on the keys. As soon as this happened, I picked up my laptop and dumped all my drink off, then I ran to go get paper towel to dry it off.

Is it likely that I have damage? My laptop was in hibernate but I turned it on briefly to shut it off. I’m going to contact dell but is there anything else I should do?

For reference I only have basic warranty and it’s the dell 16 plus.

Thank you in advance

My Dell U3011 monitor has been going black for no reason! It has done this twice now, two days in a row. I was able to revive it, but not easily. Once I restarted, the next time I replugged the monitor.

Does this mean that it may be failing, and is there a way to check its health?

Thank you.
