What do you guys think of the Savage Hunters movie. Potential plot and characters ?

Since Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles are names I’ve heard floating around for Deathstroke (Alan was supposedly going to take the role, but the movie hadn’t been greenlit then), and I’ve heard they’re looking for actors in their 20s to play Bane, it feels like Slade would be an established assassin and Bane a younger figure. So here’s how I think the plot could go.

The setup: Slade, with Wintergreen running logistics, is hired for a job on Santa Prisca, maybe alone or with a small team, to retrieve or kill someone. The target is the country’s president, who powerful people want removed because he’s stopped playing by their rules. The mission goes wrong right away. It was a trap, Slade’s team gets ambushed, and he’s left stranded and hunted on the island with no extraction.

Meeting Bane: On the run, he meets a young man who just escaped Peña Duro, the prison where he was locked up since childhood. He’s not a naive kid. The prison taught him survival of the fittest: only the strong survive, and strength of body and mind is the only thing that matters. It forged him into a disciplined, self-taught, charismatic zealot with followers who would follow him anywhere. He hates the president because the regime is responsible for his imprisonment.

The deal: Slade strikes a deal with him. Slade explains how governments and the shadowy underworld really work, and in exchange Bane gives him his knowledge of the island. Together they take on the tyrant, and Bane seems to have a sympathetic goal, which is to free the country. Small details hint at something darker: followers who never question him, prisoners who disagree and quietly disappear, and a calm that unsettles even Slade.

The turn: When the president falls, Bane doesn’t free anyone. If only the strong deserve to rule, then the revolution was never about the people. He takes the seat, locks down the island, and treats the people the way the prison treated him. Everything Slade told him about how power works becomes the playbook for his rule. Slade learns the trap was tied to this outcome all along, because whoever hired him wanted the regime gone and Bane in its place.

The ending: Slade has a chance to kill Bane and doesn’t take it, either out of professional pride or because he thinks he can still walk away clean. He barely escapes the island with his life, and the movie ends with the two as enemies. In a post-credits scene, Bane looks out from the presidential palace toward Gotham, setting up his clash with Batman later.

I’ll admit I first thought the movie could have Bane as a noble, sympathetic figure trying to free Santa Prisca, with Slade hired to stop him. But after thinking it over, that didn’t make sense. Going younger for Bane makes it pretty clear they need him for the long term, so he can’t be introduced to the DCU as a heroic figure, because how else would he clash with Batman down the line?

What do you think? Does this feel like a good setup for Deathstroke and Bane, or would you change something?

Do you find it ironic that the more writers have tried to make Deathstroke a worse person, the more he’s become a meme rather than a great villain?

In The New Teen Titans and The Judas Contract, Slade is introduced as a professional assassin who takes a contract against the Titans after his son Grant dies trying to fulfill it. Setting the Terra controversy aside (which is Wolfman and Pérez clearly sexualizing her to reinforce her portrayal as a villain), Slade is still shown as conflicted about the whole situation. He captures the Titans alive, lets Nightwing go, clashes with H.I.V.E. over how the contract should be carried out, and eventually makes peace with the Titans before walking away. His 1991 solo series then established him as a mercenary protagonist: ruthless and morally compromised, but still a professional with principles of his own.

Since then, though, it feels like writers have steadily eroded or contradicted those traits. His professional code becomes inconsistent, his love for his children gets twisted or retconned into obsessive control and abuse, his family history is reworked to make him more and more toxic, and his villainy escalates to things like blowing up a city. And for what? Making Slade more evil clearly didn’t elevate him as a villain. It did the opposite, and it “bummified” him. He’s been mostly stripped of what made him interesting, and now he’s a huge joke in a lot of circles, whether it’s about his family failures, the controversial Judas Contract stuff, or just how miserable his life is.

What do you think ?
