The asphalt of the 4403 coast route still looks the same every time I spawn back in, but it’s a whole lot quieter without you, Disco Steve.
It all started just north of Solnechny. My buddy spotted you shuffling along the elevated railroad tracks, the universal sign of a wandering freshie. Before anything could really be said, I broke both your legs. Standard procedure in the apocalypse, or so I thought, until we hovered over your broken body and asked how long you’d been in the game.
"About fifty hours," you said through a crackly mic.
That was the moment the night turned. We couldn't just leave you there to bleed out or get eaten by infected. We crafted a splint, taught you how bone mechanics work in DayZ, and officially adopted you into the squad. From that second on, you weren't just loot target practice, you were Disco Steve.
The trip down the coast was pure, unfiltered chaos. We commandeered a boat, engine roaring against the shoreline waves, and made a pit stop in Kamyshovo, the infamous cannibal town. With you following our lead, we cleared out every freshie, taking back the town one shovel hit at a time. Then came the trial by fire in Elektro: fighting back-to-back through hordes of infected, sharing canned pork, and keeping you alive through every close call.
Then came Elektro, where the learning curve hit you like a freight train. While we were chasing down a freshie near the police station. The lone freshie slid out from around a corner and cracked you in the skull with a pipe wrench. Down you went, snoring flat on your back on the third floor. My buddy dispatched the guy on the spot, resuscitated your unconscious body, and stood guard over your floating white circle until you finally blinked back to life. "Did I win?" you asked. Classic Steve.
Our luck finally ran out in Chernogorsk. We were holding down the roundabout, swarmed by zombies and running low on stamina, when the silent killer of the 4403 struck, an ambush. We had been tracked, ever since we entered Prigorodki. Shots rang out from the tree line, and in the sheer madness of infected screeches and incoming gunfire, you life ended right there on the pavement. Fear not, we avenged you with every ounce of our will.
Server 4403 is still full of freshies, but none of them are Disco Steve. Here’s hoping you’re out there somewhere on the coast, legs intact, splint fully crafted, and living up to the legend.
