Pictures don't do it justice.

It's still a WIP; the moss and 20+ plant cuttings are just beginning to grow, I have goals of upgrading to the MistKing system, and I'll be adding more plants and another round of wet moss mix in the near future. But for now, I'm proud of the results of my hard work. I knew absolutely nothing about bioactive vivariums when I started this journey, so to come this far and be a witness to four bumblebee darts thriving and enjoying every inch of the beautiful space is an incredibly rewarding experience.

Nepenthes in vivarium with frogs?

Is anyone keeping Nepenthes or other carnivorous plants in their vivariums with their dart frogs? I’d be keen to try this.

Feeding Leucomelas Tadpoles

Post image

Can anyone advise on how much to feed my newly hatched tadpoles? I’m using Hikari Micro Pellets. The pellets are ridiculously small, like the size of salt grains.

I am currently feeding them every other day, 3-5 pellets per tadpole. I know I’m supposed to remove uneaten food the next day but the pellets are so small that I can’t even see them.

Temperature concerns

Post image

My home got to 65.8 last night according to the enclosure wifi thermometer and hygrometer. I'm not sure why since my thermostat was set to 70 but I've raised it to 74 now. Should I get a heating mat with a thermometer just to be sure it doesn't happen again? I'm worried for my frogs :( Everything I read says the minimum they can survive at is 65. If I do get one, where do I place it to best heat the frogs? I feel like the four inches of substrate would stop a lot of heat from getting in, in time to save them from any temp swings.

36x18x36in (WxDxH) exo-terra paludarium tank, what kind of frogs should I get?

Hello!

I just got a HUGE tank and my building supplies are arriving in just a couple days. I've been leaning towards dart frogs, but with such a big tank I've also been considering tree frogs! Already have hardscape to put in and also have a water pump incase id like to build a water feature for the Lil guys! Id like to keep multiple frogs in this tank, but dont want anything that'll be over-crowded or unhappy due to lack of space. If im doing dart frogs, id like a type that would happily use more of the vertical space (and ill set it up to include more shelves vs prioritizing more vertical climbing space)

If you had a tank of this size, what kind of frog would you like to put in it? Help me decide!!

After deciding, ill be able to build a tank that better suits a particular type of frog!

Bonus - show me a picture of your setup / frogs!!

When do you stop using a culture?

This culture has been producing for over three weeks now. It's on its last legs and starting to smell but should I stop using it sooner? I have three others producing lol. My breeder suggested two a week but I've been making two every other week and I almost have too many flies. Is it bad to feed these flies to my babies? (3mo leucs)

My first dart frog build. This is a 24x18x24 terrarium. It’s intended for 4 dendrobates leucomelas. Some plants are starting to lose some leaves and die off, which I’ve read is normal. I’ve added plenty of isopods and springtails. Hoping everything stabilizes soon and I can add the frogs.

I’ve had these two for a few months now. I’m new to dart frogs, they look like they’re growing and healthy weight but I wanted another opinion.

Misting Question

Good Evening,

I'm brand new to this hobby, we have just begun the process of building our terrarium. The question I have is about using a MistKing/ Climist misting system.

I see the water reservoir has to be higher than the pump. As we are planning to have this set up in our living room, I'm wondering what some experienced people have done to hide/ mask the bucket.

I am trying to do everything the right way and not the cheap and easy way. I just learned this system was gravity fed about an hour ago while doing some research. So I know this may be a dumb question to some of you. I however, would love some any ideas that others have tried. So there's not a random bucket sitting in an awkward place.

Thanks!

How do you guys leave your frogs for an extended period of time?

I had a dart frog a few years ago and lived with my mom who was able to feed him if I was not around. I fed him MWF. I now live alone and I do have one or two people I think that could take care of my frog if I left for more than a few days at a time but I try to not be too reliant. Someone (not my mom) not shutting my tank properly last time is how I ended up loosing my frog after making sure to tell them to do so.

I got a massive discount on an established dart frog enclosure thanks to Aquarium Design Group in Houston. The tank had some problems including fertilizer pellets from potted plants, slugs, scale, millipedes, and other pests. I tore everything down and rescaped the entire tank from scratch and its been growing in for a couple months. I’ve enjoyed the process and like how its been coming along. I will be posting on my insta about the build soon and I’m excited to finally get some eggs and start growing out tadpoles.

Edit: 160ish gallons

Picked up from NARBC in Tinley Park yesterday. 3 frogs, all about 6 months old.

18x18x18 bio active set up. The plants have been in for 6 months, springtail population is thriving underneath all the leaf litter and in the soil. (I’ll be adding more leaf litter yet too. I’ll be living by ā€œdry feet, wet backsā€ as seen on a video linked in this sub).

Dual misters set up on 8-hour timing, 3x per day. Silicone mats on top to keep humidity in.

I have a starter fruit fly set up, and a fully grown source for food already. Containers, media, all the items I need to breed my own. I have experience in reef keeping, and freshwater shrimp, so I know I can undertake this. (I’ve also run a paladarium previously…)

I know there are two pitcher plants in there, not sure of the species. If you can help identify those, and any other plants, I’d love to know their specifics. LED light is on a timer that I’ll set for 12 hours per day, 6-6p since this tank is at my workplace.

Thanks for any information you’ll provide. I’ll take it all in and learn more as I go. Feeling pretty good currently.

Weird stomach twitching?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, Im posting here to ask for advice on this weird little twitching I saw a bit ago on my frog. From what I know, Ive NEVER seen this on any prior dart frog of mine and never on this one either. I usually watch them eat quite a lot, so this was strange behavior for me. Orange meringue is a great hunter and eater, and has so much energy and personality. They are 10-11 months old now, and have been getting proper calcium supplements. The heat and humidity in the tank are perfect, so I know they aren’t being hurt by anything like that, or mold. they had twitching on their right side (like right by their armpit) a bit more visibly right before this video. They also had just eaten, so it could be digestion. Ive watched them for 10 mins after, and they just kinda stopped twitching right after the video and went back to normal. They looked at me like im crazy lowkey, cus usually I dont watch them so intensely. Im also not sure why they have such a pronounced back, because they are in good weight?
