From now on, we will enforce rule 2 more strictly. This is especially relevant in relation to outfit posts.
Hello everyone,
Lately we have seen a massiv influx of people breaking rule 2, which is the rule regarding policing what defines dark academia, as well as behaviour that encourages people to do so.
We have especially seen an avalanche of posts titled something like "Is this Dark Academia?"
Those types of posts are against the rules, but we have in the past been lenient with people breaking that specific rule in the interest of activity in the subreddit, but it has gone too far now, so we will no longer accept it.
So, what can't I do?
Simply, you cannot make a post of an outfit (or home office, bedroom, birthday cake whatever) wherein the title is anything along the lines of "Is this Dark Academia?" or "Is this Dark Academia enough?"
What should I do instead? 1. Explain why you think it's dark academia! What inspired you? How did the aesthetic inform this specific outfit (or bedroom or birthday cake?) 2. A simple "Loved my outfit today, and I think y'all might like it too" is also perfectly acceptable! 3. If you are insecure about your fit, questions are absolutely welcome too! But consider being specific and concrete, like, "I love how Dark Academia this skirt and blouse is, but I struggle to figure out what shoes to wear to tie the look together. What do you think?" or "I am wanting to create a Gothic atmosphere that will inspire me while I study in my bedroom. Do you think blue or green walls would fit the aesthetic best?" and so on and so forth.
On the topic of policing other people
If you feel like a post doesn't fit this subreddit at all, please report it. If you just don't like it, downvote it. Don't go policing whether or not someone is allowed to post in this subreddit.
A post can have elements of other aesthetics and still fit this subreddit
Elements of prep, punk, alt, etc, does not negate a dark academic influence or inspiration. This subreddit and this aesthetic is going to be incredibly boring and stale if we don't allow for fusions, pushing boundaries and mixing it up, so please allow people to experiment with the DA aesthetic without shitting on them.
If you see anyone breaking the rules, please report and downvote. Thank you.

HOME DECOR New Ventures In Store For I
Got out of an engagement earlier this year and moved out. I'm just now starting to feel a bit settled into the new place with my bestie. We have quite similar Aesthetics but executed in different ways so our little dwelling has the utmost amount of comfort and warmth. (I know, I'm quite biased)
Its been so fun to indulge in my tastes more lately and growing my numerous amounts of collections. Just wanted to share my space as I cant wait til its fully done. :)

DISCUSSION Dark academia planner: seven days, twelve hours, and a commonplace book for the lines worth keeping
Most planners feel like spreadsheets. I wanted one that feels like opening an old manuscript.
- The day page runs dawn to dusk in Roman numerals, one line per hour.
- The week is a “sennight,” seven days with room for marginalia.
- The last leaf is a commonplace book for quotes and half-formed thoughts.
It’s undated, so you can start in any season, and it works on an iPad in GoodNotes.
I’m still deciding what to add. What would you want in a dark academia planner that most of them leave out?

DISCUSSION What is your countries most Dark Academia city?
I live in the UK and think Edinburgh is the most Dark Academia city we have.
Does your country have any town or city which closely fits the aesthetic?

Dark/ Old world vibes and the clergy.
Good afternoon all. I will try to make this short. I have been a clergy man for over 15 years. And I have always enjoyed a more darker/ gothic aesthetic. I call it my “old world” vibe. From dress to my office decor. I have never really had an issue with any congregates, except for a few. But I wanted to get some more perspective on clergyman and how they tie into the dark academic setting. Thanks.

I made a dark academia study planner for the 2026–2027 school year, with ink-and-gold pages
I wanted a planner that feels like a scholar’s desk, not a generic app. So I designed one for the iPad, around ink, parchment and gold.
What’s in it:
- Weekly pages and an exam countdown
- A revision tracker and an assignment log
- A page for each course
- Tabs you can tap to jump between sections
I made it myself and I’m still improving it. Which pages would you want in a study planner? I’d love to hear what you’d add or cut.

Franciscus Bossinensis and others - 15min practice video, no talking study with me
Franciscus Bossinensis (1485-1535)
Little is known of the composer and arranger Franciscus Bossinensis, whose name indicates his Bosnian origins. He may have served in the court musical establishment of the ruler of Bosnia, and he was responsible for two collections of frottolas for voice and lute, printed by Petrucci in Venice in 1509 and 1511. These consist of his own lute ricercari in addition to arrangements of frottolas

FASHION Natural Fiber Dark Academia Clothes
I think we talk too less about natural fibers and clothing quality in Gothic & Dark Academia fashion. Like all the pretty extravagant pieces are soo uncomfortable due to polyester.
Even while thrifting vintage clothes you have to be really cautious about the fabric, since I think the plastic pieces do live longer, so they are more discoverable on the market now (there are other reasons too though).
But I’m currently in the process of selling all of my fast fashion pieces (also bought half of them secondhand, but only cared for the aesthetics and not the quality) to replace them with secondhand high-quality ones. I might have less clothes now, but they are finally wearable on a daily basis, even though I’m pretty afraid of damaging them :(
As an example I thrifted this 95% silk blouse and real leather bag each for around 30€. I am soo in love with them and and owning such nice pieces brings much more happiness than fast fashion 🐇
If anyone has ideas about comfortable but special pieces I’d be happy to receive recommendations! 🍂

DISCUSSION Romanticizing Depression Loneliness
Hi everyone, I'm an INTJ, in a new city, and even though I want and try to make friends, I think I romanticize loneliness subconsciously. I think that social media has ruined people's social skills overall. I have tried approaching people my age but it hasn't worked out. People are not trying to have good relationships with those around them they believe they'll always find someone better, for a romantic relationship or friendship.
Furthermore, everyone has this superiority complex, and thinks theyre perfect already, so they aren't trying to improve themselves and this can stop them from finding the right people for them.
What are your thoughts?
