Modern Alföld Hungarian DNA

Post image

Modern Hungarian individual from Alföld, (Eastern Hungary AKA the hungarian plains/Steppe) Shows significant affinity with the Early-Medieval Magyars. (Conquering Hungarians) At about 15-16% autosomal admixture. The Csongrad-Csanad county in Hungary is characterized by flat, forest-steppes, agriculture and historical significance to the Magyar settlements as it was a hotspot for Elite graves and ornaments found. This is a qpAdm Conquest-Era split for this modern Hungarian individual. This genetic medieval split perfectly represents the Local native population and the Incoming Magyar tribes in the 9th century. The Local population was swiftly assimilated in the Area , but the Magyars did continue to be homogenous for a while before intermixing with the subjects (Local people such as slavs, germanics, balkaners.) Modern Hungarians from this area of Hungary show a higher than baseline autosomal admixture of Conqueror Magyar dna. As the Baseline for north (not north alfold )and West Hungarians typically sit at around 3-8%. (There are exceptions). This individual in this case has 15.5% Conquering Hungarian (Magyar) Admixture and the Rest being the Assimilated local population at 84.5%. This admixture makes them unique and clusters them slightly away from the Carpathian baseline. The Conquering magyars themselves were approximatley 30% Bronze Age Central siberian , 10% Bronze age Mongolic , 10% Excess Hunter Gatherer (koskino boborkinyo), and Overwhelming 50% was sintashta-Andronovo-like. (proto-indo-iranian).

Caribbean Ancestry Analysis Using Ancestrify (qpAdm): How Reliable Are My Results?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm Caribbean and recently used Ancestrify (qpAdm) to explore my ancient genetic ancestry. I'd appreciate feedback from anyone knowledgeable about qpAdm, population genetics, and ancient DNA. I'm particularly interested in how reliable this method is for estimating broad regional ancestry and interpreting results for someone with a Caribbean background.

Do some Cajun DNA results show 80–90%+ French ancestry despite centuries in Louisiana?

Browsing DNA results on Reddit, I've noticed a surprising number of people with Cajun roots scoring 90% or higher in French ancestry. Given Louisiana's multi-ethnic history, what best explains such high genetic retention—the Acadian founder effect, centuries of community endogamy, or reference panel bias?

Scientific Paper / Article / Study New David Reich paper: A modern human range expansion ~300,000 years ago had a critical role in Neandertal origins

Abstract
This paper proposes that a critical event in Neandertal evolution was a range expansion of early modern humans into Europe 300 thousand years ago (ka).

As bands of early modern humans spread, they incorporated resident archaic people leading ultimately to so much admixture that the resulting population carried ~3-7% modern ancestry. I identify multiple ways in which this would lead to a high probability of these direct ancestors of Neandertals retaining early modern human lineages at both mitochondrial DNA and Y chromosomes while clustering with Denisovans genome-wide.

A previous explanation for these patterns without the unique population dynamics associated with a range expansion has less than a 3% chance of matching the data. In Africa, the hypothesis also has explanatory power: if the expanding population also mixed African archaic humans, it could account for the evidence that all humans living today are admixed between lineages that separated more than a million years ago and remixed ~300 ka.

This hypothesis of a bicontinental range expansion correlates with shared archaeological traits between West Eurasia and Africa that were far less present in East Asia, including Levallois point stone tools, improved hafting, use of fire and ochre, and larger and more organized campsites.

Motivated by the evidence that an early modern human expansion had a role in Neandertal and modern human evolution, I identify 66 loci spanning <0.1% of the genome where people today share ancestry with Neandertals more recently than separation from Denisovans. This includes a haplotype at FADS1/FADS2 that codes for an enzyme modifying polyunsaturated plant-derived fatty acids and may reflect adaptation to a more diversified diet, and an amino acid substitution at ARHGAP32 modulating neural connections that may be important in modern human cognitive evolution.
