Questions / Discussions (Items · Builds · Skills) Is anyone else having this problem

I’ve noticed that my storm strike attack doesn’t doesn’t engage most of the time. Is it just input lag or am I just dumb and don’t know how to use a trigger

Played a Druid last season, did Screamheart’s Lightning God build. Very good. If your basic skill isn’t firing most of the time, I’d check the following suspects:

  • if you are using Shard of Verathiel unique, whether weapon or charm, do you have enough spirit to cast?
If you are using the storm shepherd’s call charm set, you want to ensure you have enough spirit to cast AND resource generation to restore it back up close to full quickly. I found that stutter casting my Storm Strike actually made the difference and gave me both the slight lag in the attack and bigger damage while not feeling like overall damage output dropped. It got better!
  • do you have an enemy you could breathe on? You require immediate contact with the first enemy of this attack, then it can chain to many others farther away.
  • less likely, but perhaps did you have a different build using the key /button assigned for Storm Strike and you had it set to toggle for a channeled skill? Which doesn’t work with Storm Strike.

Thank you for this, it just seems to happen on large groups when they are point blank. But the higher the torment I went the less it has happened. So maybe it was just a temporary bug for me.
Are you saying I should be having resource generation on my gear to maximize screamhearts build?

You're welcome, happy to help. As you scale your stats like Willpower and get better gear, your resource generation sources also go up.

You need a base of spirit regeneration + resource generation for 2 main reasons:

  1. Lightning Storm consumes spirit every second, I think it's ~15 spirit per second. If you run out of spirit, the storm stops until you notice it and cast it again (with enough spirit to start it and then sustain it!).

  2. Storm Strike, when using Shard of Verathiel, now costs 25 spirit per cast. AND, because it's a Storm skill, and you're using the Storm Shepherd's Call charm set, this cast will consume literally ALL of your available spirit on any Storm skill cast (every time you hit the button for any Storm skill) to do lots more damage.

So, thinking about it this way: to be spirit stable, you have to generate, from all sources, combining both base bonus + all bonuses, enough spirit to pay for Storm Strike and Lightning Storm every second, at a minimum. So, 25 + 15 = 40 spirit per second, minimum. That's the base.

How do we commonly get there? If you have Tibault's Will (or another source(s)) of being unstoppable, you're generating 50 Spirit Regeneration per second, before any Resource Generation bonuses. Now add say +5 Spirit Regeneration affix on your chest armor and +5 Spirit Regeneration affix on your helm, don't even count the boots or pants or any other sources, and that's +10 spirit/sec, for a total of 60 base spirit per second while unstoppable. And that's not even counting a "Lucky Hit to restore +X Primary Resource" affix/bonus you might have.

That's step 1 -- build the base. Now, step 2, AMPLIFY that base. Let's add your Resource Generation bonus to that: if you have a modest +20% Resource Generation (on a ring or a temper), that's 60 * 20% = +12 spirit generation every second. So, assuming you're unstoppable all the time, you'd be generating 60+12 = 72 spirit per second.

That's more than enough to pay for both of your basic and core spender skills of Storm Strike and Lightning Storm and still have some left over. If you get another 50 primary resource boost from your Prime Evil power of Destruction, that's another 50*1.2 = 60 spirit added every time that happens. Then add in a LH to restore +4 Primary Resource (base) + your +20% Resource Generation = 5 spirit per hit times dozens of passive + active hits per second, and you can quickly see how you could replenish -- and spend -- your spirit very quickly.

Wow, thank you so much for this honestly.

I’ve just obtained this, should I use this or keep the destruction prime of evil?

If you're playing Screamheart's Lightning God build, I'd stick with Splinter of Destruction. The Cold Blood power is the equivalent one that grants 50 Primary Resource when your Prime Evil power is invoked, but I think they all have that bonus power in each Splinter's set, so that doesn't specifically matter. But you have synergies for making enemies vulnerable, crowd control like chill, slow, immobilize, even freeze.

And, there's a chance to get additional Attunement in the Undercity, so when combined with the Undercity activity node that grants more XP orbs when you reach attunement levels 1-4 in the Undercity, you get 1, 2, 3, 4 or more XP orbs to Pac-Man up (just be sure to stop, back up, and pick them up if you're moving quickly since they'll drop behind you!).

Playing stormstrike as well and i can tell you with 100% certainty there is a small deadzone where it will allow you to attack but not use stormstrike; So you end just basic attacking. Disengage and move up or dash in.

I have noticed this on occasion too, but not sure what is causing it.
