Regarding these common posts such as: “what to do in Nicosia, what to do in ….” or other real estate and common tourist questions that can be easily looked up and have been answered before.
Please just report the post and do not engage in the comments, if you think the post should be removed. When there are multiple reports on a post, we receive a notification and can deal with them on a case by case basis. When you engage and start discussions we are more hesitant to remove the post as you all invested your time for a response and it would be counterproductive to remove them. At least thats what I would think.
If you have different suggestions on this topic let us know.
Hi people, curious how other drivers in Cyprus manage all this.
Between MOT, road tax, insurance, servicing, tyres, mileage and other maintenance, there are quite a few things to remember. Do you use an app, calendar, or just keep track of everything yourself?
Hi everyone,
I just need to vent and maybe get some perspective from people who know what it’s like working in smaller or family-run businesses here in Limassol.
I’ve been working a part-time office job here, and I am honestly at my wit's end. I try to be professional, do my tasks, and stay out of trouble, but the environment is draining the life out of me.
Some of the things I am dealing with include:
Total disorganization and lack of communication: Management doesn't communicate clearly. Tasks and errands that have nothing to do with my role are constantly dumped on me as a "jolly" secretary.
Toxic family-business dynamics: The true decision-makers don't talk to you directly, instructions are vague and confusing (often given in a rush), and when things go wrong, I am looked at as incompetent rather than supported.
The feeling of isolation: If you are sensitive and value professional ethics, trying to survive in a place where gaslighting and poor management are the norm feels impossible.
I am only staying here for a specific timeframe for my CV, but some days the mental toll is just so heavy. It makes me wonder: are all small companies in Limassol like this? How do people manage to detach emotionally from toxic coworkers and bosses without going crazy?
Thanks for reading. Any advice or shared experiences would really help.
I am also trying to build a small business online about email marketing as a side money job but I am wondering if this is the right solution. I came here to work from another Mediterranean Country to have more opportunities, I also learn greek and tried my best to find a job that can be more decent and good. I have a degree in languages and I am wondering also if getting another degree will help me to find better position and better companies . I dont know really. It have been 2 years that I am here and I am really struggling to fit into the cypriot mentality.
Three times on my quest to rent a house in Limassol (I've been monitoring the market for 4 months daily) a house has been listed and I call and it's been rented on the same day.
I've heard they list fake listings to acquire clients and lead them to other properties.
I'm glad they're warning us, but the last time we got this it ended up just being a bit of rain in my area, and it was like, "that's it?" Thanks for the warning, I guess lol!
I ordered grocery earlier today but they sent someone else’s order which is not remotely similar it is around 55 euros both my order and this persons order so I guess that’s the mix up they had
I contacted them and they said that they can send someone to collect it and replace it but im not home till night time today
can I persuade them to just refund it or is that out of question?
Remember the 29 August storm from my Achna post, the one that dropped 68 mm on a gauge that normally gets 0.3? I’ve been wondering ever since: was it really as big as it felt, or does every storm feel biggest when you’re standing in it?
Answering that kind of question is why I built Kairika, Fragmata’s weather sister. The idea is in the tagline: Cyprus weather, in plain words. Live conditions from 55 stations across the island, updated every 10 minutes, with dust, heat, sea, and rain in your language (English, Greek, Russian, and German).
It’s for Is it worth swimming today? Is there dust, and should my asthmatic kid stay inside? How hot does it get, and when does it break? And, the one I care about most, how unusual is this, really? For that last one, it keeps weather history back to 1940, so it can check an extreme day against everything that came before it. Kitas tells you what’s coming, and does it better than any algorithm. Kairika is the other half: what just happened and how it compares.
To settle the storm question, I needed something Kairika didn’t have, so I added lightning, seen from space. A European weather satellite counted about 17,600 flashes within 25 km of the island on 29 August alone, roughly 120 times as many as over land on 13 February, the wettest day of the past year, and about a third as many as the rain. You can replay the whole day, flash by flash, it's mesmerizing!
Thunder, with data
Then October picked up where August left off. The new water year opened on 1 October with a thump:
Our stations averaged 28 mm in the first 12 days, up to 72 mm at Polis Chrysochous. Paphos got 20 mm in the first six days against a normal of 0.6, which the model says is its wettest 1–6 October since 1940.
Lightning within 25 km of the island on 8 of those 12 days. On 4 October alone, over 12,000 flashes, 3,000 of them over land.
The plot twist: on 11 and 12 October the satellite counted about 18,900 and 80,000 flashes around Cyprus, and the stations stayed dry. The sea had the show, and we mostly just heard about it.
October so far
And it isn’t over. The model shows Limassol at about 18 mm and Paphos at about 17 mm today (Wednesday), with Paphos at about 17 mm again on Thursday, while Nicosia and Larnaca stay dry.
If you try the site, tell me what’s missing. A live lightning view is the obvious next step, and I’d like to hear what you’d actually use. And yes, I know which song you’re humming. I’m not quoting it, for legal reasons and for the sake of your next hour.
Aphrodite Delights sits in Geroskipou, on the southwest edge of Paphos, facing the square and its Byzantine church. It belongs to the family that has made loukoumi here since 1895. When George arrived, he walked me around, handed me a coffee, and we ended up talking about his family for a long while. A coffee and a plate of sweets before noon is hard to refuse.
I started with the flavors that seemed least obvious to a French palate, as a matter of professional duty. Mastic took some adjusting to. Carob was unfamiliar but distinctive. The ouzo loukoumi tasted so strongly of aniseed that it reminded me of pastis. Then the classics: bergamot with almonds inside, rose, and mandarin, which was my favorite of the morning.
Hi all, I will be travelling to Protaras and was wondering apart from Kapnos, what other shuttle is reliable enough to book? I am considering Shuttle Direct as they pick you up from location, but i would not know the actual time of the pick uo until I book which is sketchy to me.
I checked https://cycamerasystem.com.cy/ for a friend. Apparently he has quite some tickets there Should he pay or should he ignore for now? I had something in mind that even till now like 50% of tickets are unpaid. Not sure what the consequences are if any...What would you tell my friend ;)?
