I have an AMD Vega 8 iGPU which the game keeps telling me is unsupported but it works fine. I use Win10 64bit and have all the required patches installed.
The only problem is that I can't turn on the high res textures, they're greyed out. I can turn up everything else to ultra no problem though (besides lag).
Is there a fix or a cvar that can forcefully enable them? Please help.
Btw if someone thinks it's silly to activate this on a weak integrated graphics card, I have 16GB RAM so "VRAM" in an old game is not an issue for me.
I also tried Crysis 3 and it gives me no "unsupported graphics card" warning. No such issue in Crysis 1 and Warhead either. Crysis 2 is the only outlier.
Update: Turns out the only solution is to increase the iGPU's VRAM in the BIOS. Mine was set to 64MB (as normally there's no point in increasing it) and I increased it to 2GB. Got rid of the "unsupported graphics card" warning and the option to turn on high res textures was available and turned on by default.
A new cvar appeared in game.cfg: sys_highrestex = 1
I set the game.cfg to read-only and reverted the VRAM to 64MB in the BIOS. Sadly the game disabled the high res textures again and the unsupported GPU warning came back.
I found another cvar online: sys_spec_texture = 4. I put that and the aforementioned sys_highrestex = 1 into game.cfg (and set it back to read-only), system.cfg and autoexec.cfg all at once but still no luck. The only solution is to increase the VRAM.
I even took a screenshot with 2GB VRAM and with 64MB VRAM and the textures were worse on 64MB. The game wasn't lying and it really did ignore the cvars (I did put con_restricted = 0 in the system.cfg btw).
The problem with increasing the VRAM means that the system becomes restricted to 14GB RAM, which means I'll have to increase it just for Crysis 2 and put it back when I'm done playing, or play with the lower quality textures at 64MB VRAM. I'm choosing the former for now.
Update 2: An unrelated problem, if anyone else has dynamic shadows disappearing make sure you have sys_spec = 4 in the game.cfg and set it to read-only. And while you're there you might as well put in g_enableInitialLoginScreen = 0 too.
I also put the sys_spec = 4 cvar along with q_ShaderShadow = 1 in both system.cfg and autoexec.cfg just to be safe.
You can still adjust the advanced graphics settings (and all the other settings) in-game no problem and they will be saved. It seems those are stored somewhere outside the game.cfg.
Update 3: Turns out Crysis 3 has the exact same texture problem. Even though the game does not give me any warnings and lets me max out the graphics, it will still load the low quality textures when playing with 64MB VRAM regardless of my settings or cvars.
Once again, the only solution is to crank the VRAM to 2GB in the BIOS.
