Do you think the Crosstrek will go down as an automotive icon?

Post image

So we all love our cars, have fun parking them next to each other (bonus if it's the same color, and trim), we get excited when others join the ranks, but do you think they'll gain icon status like Beetles (but really, will anything?), XJ Cherokees, and the square Volvo wagons, among others? Will these have staying power over time?

Back to the Subie family!

So excited to be back in a Subaru! 2024 Premium! Traded in my Outback for a minivan a few years ago, kept the van even after I stopped needing the third row. Well the van took a dump so back to Subaru it is! I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed a Crosstrek when I was test driving the various models. I love how light it feels compared to the 2 ton van I had and even my old Outback. I feel like it fits our family of 4 just fine, kiddos are in boosters so the backseat isn’t eaten up by large car seats. And holy guac the trunk fits a whole grocery run with room to spare! Anyone else have the Crosstrek as their family car?

Is this a good deal on '26 crosstrek premium with lifetime powertrain warranty? Any gotcha's I should worry about?

Im hoping to pay it off quicker than 72 months, but keeping the monthly payments down just in case. Let me know what you think!

Edit: so was shopping this price out to other dealerships and one of them caught on that the final out the door price offered here is actually $33,137. The way they have the bill broken out it looked like 30,017 to me! So im going to keep shopping for a better price.

From other research and posted comments, it looks like the 'lifetime warranty' is about as useful as a bag of ducks, and when it comes time to use it they will likely fight you on it due to 'improper maintenance from owner'

This is a 2018 Base model crosstrek for starters. This is an ongoing build.Hopefully wrapping up by November šŸ¤ž. Floor needs a deep scrubbing tomorrow. I’m doing a couple Layers CDL mat on the larger flat spots that aren’t as supported. This is only to help with the resonance(rattling) of the panel. On top of that, I’m using 1/8ā€ thick Closed Cell Foam sheets for decoupling between the CDL and the next layer. I’m using 1/lb Mass Loaded Vinyl. A roll of 100sq feet should be here Friday. Everything seam sealed.

First camping trip in the Subaru

2025 Wilderness that I bought back in April. Had about 5000 miles on it when I bought it, close to 12,000 now. I’ve taken a few day trips to the mountains but this was the first camping trip where I really loaded it up with gear. It did great, I’m looking forward to seeing how it does in the snow.
The mountain in the background is Mt Rainier. I’ve always had 4x4 trucks and jeeps but wanted something that was better for a daily driver and still capable off road, so far I’ve been impressed with its capabilities.

Transmission fluid

Hey everyone šŸ™‚ new Subaru owner here. I purchased a 2021 crosstrek in early September from a dealer with 79,000 miles on it. I took it to my personal mechanic to have him look everything over. He told me the only thing he would recommend is a transmission fluid flush. He said they checked it and it was fairly dirty and looked like the original fluid, but that he couldn’t do it because it should be done by a dealer. I looked into it and I’m getting mixed reviews on if it should be done or not. I’m seeing that if the fluid is too dirty it can be bad to change it, but also if it’s not past a certain point you should change it. I called my local Subaru dealer and since I don’t know the history of services done on the car they recommend I bring it in at 90,000 miles but I’m worried if the fluid is already dirty it will do more bad than good to wait another year (I don’t drive much). The dealer also told me there’s no way to actually check the transmission fluid. So I’m left with these questions:

  1. Should I change the transmission fluid now, at 90,000 miles or not at all? (I am not experiencing any weird transmission stuff at the moment)

  2. How the hell did my mechanic check the fluid if there’s apparently no real way to check it? Is it possible he drained some and if so is that bad???

Thanks in advance!

Kayak rack recommendations for a 2020 Crosstrek? Ideally two kayaks + theft protection

I've got a 2020 Crosstrek Limited with what I believe are OEM crossbars, and I'm looking for recommendations for a kayak carrier.

I have a few smaller recreational kayaks, both sit-on-top and sit-inside. I'll usually be transporting one sit-on-top, but I'd love the option to carry two whenever somebody joins me.

I'm not looking to spend a fortune, so I'm particularly interested in budget-friendly options that people have actually used and trust.

I'd also like some way to lock the kayaks to the vehicle when parked for short periods, ideally without spending a ton on a separate security system.

Anybody running a similar setup? What carrier are you using, and would you recommend it?

Thanks!

Subaru extended warranty?

Hey! I got the Crosstrek limited hybrid 2026! I've had it for exactly one day. Was thinking about the extended warranty they were offering when I purchased. They said that before tax it would cost:

- 5 years / 100,000 km: $3,222

- 6 years / 120,000 km: $3,628

- 7 years / 140,000 km: $4,509

What do you think of this? Did others get the extended warranty? Did you like it and use it? My feeling is that it is quite expensive, so I'm looking for input.

The new liners look good but PNW rain is already getting underneath them

I finally upgraded the interior setup like people here sugested but its been pouring in the Paciific Northwest all week and the passenger side is already turning into a puddle.

The main problem is the dead pedal area. Water runs off my boots goes over the top edge of the liiner and ends up on the factory carpet underneath. There’s now a damp spot under the mat that will probably start smeling like mildew if I don't dry it out this weekend.

Im considering WeatherTech, Husky, 3W, and TuxMat as replacements but im stuck on what to prioritize. In a climate where it rains constantly, is taller edge coverage more important than how the material holds up over time?? I mainly want something that directs water away instead of letting it sit under my heels.

2022 odd behavior while stopped at incline

Hello all,
I bought a used 2022 Crosstrek in May of this year and have loved it up until the past few days. I got my CVT fluid changed about a month ago and this past weekend took a trip to New River Gorge in WV. On our last day out there, while in a drive thru, the car suddenly lurched forward. I didn’t pay too much mind to it and figured I’d taken my foot off the brake without noticing.
Then, a few minutes later, while stopped on an incline at a red light, the car violently jerked as if being rear-ended and threw a handful of warning lights (check engine, at oil temp, eyesight, etc) I immediately pulled over and turned off the car, figuring it was the gas cap being loose as that’s thrown similar lights. I fixed that and turned the car off and on a few times and the lights cleared.
The car drove fine the 300 or so miles home. Then two days later, stopped on an incline again, the car jerked 3 or 4 times in a row and threw some different lights (battery and oil pressure). When I let my foot off the brake, the car began to roll backwards despite being in drive. I turned the car off and back on and no lights showed up, and the car drove like normal.
I haven’t been driving much since then, had to call off work because my commute is an hour each way and I can’t afford to get towed that far. I have an appointment with Subaru dealer on Monday, but was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if so, what was the root cause. If not, I’ll update the post after my service in case anyone in the future can gain anything from it.

Which ceramic coating should I put on my new 2026 Black Crosstrek. Self Healing or the Hard Coating?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I have had my new 2026 Crosstrek for a month. It's a beautiful crystal black silica color. I want to protect it from scratches etc. and it's not in the budget to put a PPF film on it.

My question is, What's the best ceramic coating for the black color? AI says I should go with the self healing because if I get any swirls on the coating, the heat will take them away but with a hard coating I would have to machine-polish them out.

Also, from my understanding, the hard coating leaves a glossy glass look, which I love, but the self healing looks more like a wet look?

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on which one to choose?

Has anyone with a 2026 been successful in turning off the seatbelt chime?

I saw some YT videos and seems easy enough to follow the procedure and click the seatbelt clip 20 times in 30 secs, but nothing works on mine. Before I waste more time trying it again and again, it would be great to know if someone was successful. It is really annoying. At one point, I even turned off the car and got out and it was still bing bonging. Why they didn’t make it like they used to by only chiming after a certain speed is beyond me. Thanks

After looking high and low for a good, decently priced, reliable commuter car with decent financing options.. I could not find anything better than the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid.

0% for 63 months in CA. No dealer add-ons. No fixings. Nothing I didn't think I could use (except the Driver Focus....).

MSRP $39,382 after destination & delivery. Option Package 37 + the Mirror package.

Talked them down to $35,999 (before tax & fees). I was hoping for a little bit more, but ultimately felt pretty OK with it all. Seems like there IS still some room to go down, but isn't there always?

Hoping to get a bunch of miles on this soon. Anyone have any tips or tricks I should know?

Thanks!

Wheel bearing issues at 30,000 miles

Just brought my 2 year old Crosstrek in for its 30,000 mile service. Noticed a buzzing noise beforehand and it turned out to be the rear driver's side wheel bearing. Turns out the passenger side one was going too. They are replacing both under warranty, but this seems odd. I don't do any "extreme" driving. No off-roading; mostly highway miles. Anyone else encounter this?

Jeep to Subaru?

I’ve been a Jeep driver since I was 16, I drove two Jeep Liberty models (2002 and 2007) and then now currently drive a Jeep Renegade. My renegade lost to the hurricane this past weekend, and everyone is telling me it’s a sign I’ve gotta stop. (Side note, the renegade wasn’t physically damaged, something in the engine blew immediately the day after the hurricane while I had a full tank of gas… which was extra devastating in the post hurricane world.) My jeeps have always been fussy and problematic but have been relatively reliable, but that may be the Stockholm Syndrome talking. I’ve been looking at other cars because right now the repairs don’t look possible. I like the height and build of my renegade, I just don’t like anything too long, but I don’t wanna be too small that I could just fly away with a gust of wind. I drive other people’s corollas and civics sometimes and hate how low and tiny I feel in just a car. I’ve been seriously looking at Subaru crosstreks because I do like feeling like a tiny tank on the road. Is this a good transition? It’s been a decade since I’ve car shopped and the options are overwhelming.
