πŸ”Š Discussion Games with Neopets-like economy, community, progression, etc.

I feel like a few times a year there's a post like this asking for Neopets alternatives, but most of the games suggested just don't really scratch the itch for me. I think the issue is that the things I'm looking for in a Neopets-alike are not always the same things others want. I loved Neopets for its economy and sense of progression. I want to be able to sell and trade, I want to be able to hustle! I like being able to get rich in a game since I can't in real life. Lol. I also love the guild and boards features of Neopets. I like being able to talk to others and work together toward goals. Of course I also love my cute little pets, but what I really like is being able to make my pets the strongest and best equipped and show off my accomplishments! I want to be able to collect cool things and show them off in my gallery. Stuff like that. Does anyone have recs for games like this that are active in 2026? I'm mostly thinking about browser games, but other types of game recs are appreciated as well!

As to why I'm not just playing Neopets right now, welp, it was doing too good of a job at getting me to spend real money on it, and it's just not as fun to me without paying for premium. I'm looking for something with fewer microtransactions (or ideally none at all) if possible! Willing to pay for the game up front, but not a subscription, unless the value and customer service is MUCH better than Neo. Oh, and yes I know about Grundo's Cafe and I have an account. I haven't really gotten that into it yet, maybe because it lacks some of that competitive "gotta be the best" spirit that Neo can bring out in me. Lol. But I may pick it up again if it seems like the best option. Thank you all so much!

Tis the season! I’m not a big fan of pastels and was thrilled to see that not all of the Halloween looks are garish colors etc. Just started playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure a week ago and I’m excited about the decorating possibilities but I can tell it’s going to take an eternity to collect enough furniture in the other themes. 😭

Windows I am looking for a sorting/organizing game that is not first person.

Hello,

I am interesting in trying this new breed of puzzle games but all of the recommendations are for first person games. I can't play this style without being sick.

I am looking for more things like Lost Wiki, the Sorting Bureau and such. I would like to do a version of the giant pile games but not first person.

πŸ‘Ύ Game Developer I’m a little over a month away from releasing Little NoΓ«l, a game where you build, decorate, and share your own Christmas villages!

I've always loved having Christmas villages set up during Christmas time. This game tries to capture a little of that feeling (for a lot cheaper and takes up less space).

You can build up the village how you want. This first year there are 2 village themes: an Old English village and a farm. After you've built it how you want, you can decorate everything! Once you are done, you can explore your village on foot, or share it with others.

It will be available in mid November on Steam and mobile.

AI has been used to create development tool to speed up creating the game, but otherwise, no AI is used.

I heard about a game that came out a month or two ago that was all messaging or texting people. One of the male characters supposedly gave yandere vibes. I can't remember the name of this. Does anyone recognize this game?

πŸ‘Ύ Game Developer We are making tidy-up game about alchemy store (no AI)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! We are making tidy-up up game about an alchemy store where you sort 3338 items and brew potions! It's called Magically Sorted.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4622320/Magically_Sorted/

We do not use gen AI and we didn't use any assets for items you are going to sort. We created all of them from scratch, so even if you played all tidy up games released so far, all items in our game will be brand new to you! :) We also limit copies per item, as we personally don't like when there are 20+ copies of same items in games. On average, each item comes in only 7 copies in our game.

We pay lots of attention to details and visuals. For example, designs of the potions reflect their category and effects. We started with setting rules for our magical world and thinking about the lore. After that, we created the list of items that could be sold in the shop. It took lots of iterations to make sure it's interesting and makes sense! Then, when the list was finalized, we moved on thinking how the visuals could reflect the effects.Β For example, the potion that makes you speak backwards looks like an upside down bottle :) We put lots of care into each single item and everything in the game is intentional ^_^

You also find rare recipes somewhere in the shop and brew potions using them! They will help you to tidy up faster.

I used my personal savings to hire an illustrator and she drew stunning pictures of ingredients that we use for the labels, and I also used my personal savings to hire a composer and localizers, none of them use gen ai :)

There are some other features that we will be ready to reveal a bit later!

If you are interested, please wishlist it on steam :) It will help us a lot! I'm hoping to post some devlogs a bit later about the process ^_^ Thank you for your attention and have a wonderful day <3

You can also follow us on insta:)

πŸ‘Ύ Game Developer Check out our 🌾 Ancient Egyptian-inspired farming life sim: Fields of Aaru! We'll be in Steam Next Fest next week. We've just added irrigation and lots of new features to the demo!

We'll be participating in Steam Next Fest next week and would love for you to try the demo. We're a tiny studio of just me and my wife, and we've been working on the game for 3 and a half years!

In Fields of Aaru, you can build a farm along the Nile, raise animals, grow crops, and master ancient crafts. Explore the Ancient Egyptian afterlife: encounter all kinds of wildlife, from flamingos and ostriches to crocodiles, meet the Gods, including Anubis and Horus, and a diverse cast of NPCs.

The updated demo is free to play on Steam, and if you're interested in trying out the latest features like digging and irrigation, feel free to check it out and give us feedback! We've just launched a major update in preparation for Next Fest.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4665870/Fields_of_Aaru_Demo/

If you've already seen Fields of Aaru or played the demo before, here's what's changed since June:

We've added fluffier foliage, more flowers to the meadows, and adjusted the colors across different areas. Enhanced mode also adds water reflections, improved lighting, and softer shadows!

You can choose Classic or Enhanced in the Graphics settings.

You can now dig channels and reshape the land around your farm. Once you repair the water wheel, Pentu will also ask you to repair the shaduf by your dock so you can use it to water your fields.

You can now give gifts to villagers, each with their own likes and dislikes. By popular request, you can also sit and listen to the music in the village square in the evening!

You can now play in French, German, Spanish (Spain), Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese!

When you go to bed, you'll see a summary of what you did and earned that day.

Note: Old demo saves won't work with this update. You'll need to start a new game!

We've been hard at work on the Fields of Aaru demo for Next Fest (many long nights over the past few weeks) - if you have any questions, I'll be around to answer them below!

πŸ‘Ύ Game Developer I've spent the last year making the virtual pet I always wanted to play

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've always liked the simplicity of virtual pets, but I often felt they lacked things to do and meaningful choices to make. That's why I made Virtumon a combination of my favorite monster taming games, packed into a virtual pet that lives on your PC and can run in the background while you work.

You can raise your monsters, play minigames to train them and watch them battle other Virtumons automatically. I wanted something that combines the coziness of having a little virtual pet with the satisfaction of raising, training, and evolving your own monsters and comparing them with what your friends raised.

I thought some of you might enjoy it, so here's the Steam page if you'd like to take a closer look and wishlist: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4690320/Virtumon/

Steam Deck Dressmaker - Oct update & zoom on Steamdeck

After way to long tonight I figured out how to make zoom in work on the Steamdeck. This is more than just the one zoom this is the up close zoom.

First you need to update your controller settings to add control key (if you haven't already).

After that when you want to zoom in, click whatever you mapped the control key and then (while holding down the first key) click either L1 or R1. The L side will scroll in the R1 will scroll out.

I ended up mapping both L4 and R5 to the control keys. Then I could kitty corner and not have it be obnoxious.

Greetings! I’m Gabriel, the solo dev behind Soulstonia, a free cozy idle RPG where your Summoners have minds of their own.

Every Summoner in your party has their own skills, traits, inventory, equipment, and progression. You can take direct control whenever you want, or give them idle goals and let them gather resources, craft items, fight, and explore independently.

Play hands-on. Play idle. Switch whenever.

The free demo includes all five regions to explore, 20+ skills trainable all the way to level 99, no playtime or progression cap, and the first act of the quest campaign.

Demo saves will carry forward into Early Access!

Free Steam Demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4448060/Soulstonia__Demo/

Please feel free to leave feedback in the Steam Discussions. The cozy vibes are definitely a focal point I'd like to receive feedback on from players. Not just the audio and visuals, but also how dangerous vs. comfortable the world feels.

The game will be free when it launches into Early Access, with a few paid DLC available to expand character customization, save slots, and shared bank space.

AI Disclosure: Temporary genAI background for the cover art only, the illustrator is working on new cover art right now!

Your cozy adventure awaits...

Hi everyone!

While developing a larger, story-driven adventure, I felt like creating something a little different and cozier for a change.

And that's how Houses of Witches came about!

It's a cozy, straightforward hidden-object game set in a whimsical witch village, with hundreds of little familiars hiding in all sorts of places. No complicated puzzles or time limits, just a little world to explore at your own pace.
I've had so much fun drawing this world and filling it with tiny, silly details. It's been a lovely change of pace, and I'm excited to finally share it with you.

There's more to come in the future, but for now, I hope you'll enjoy this little magical world!

Houses of Witches is coming soon! Wishlist on Steam

AI Disclosure: No generative AI was used in the creation of Houses of Witches. All artwork is hand drawn by me.

πŸ‘Ύ Game Developer We just released the demo of our cozy pixel-art magnet fishing game on Steam!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I'm Tobias and I'm developing Magnetic Catch, my second game. This time I'm working with a small indie team. After almost a year of work, the demo is now live on Steam!

Magnetic Catch is a cozy 2D pixel-art magnet fishing adventure about the beauty of surprise. You join Tommy on his quest for the greatest hidden treasure. You start with rusty scrap, but the finds get more interesting over time and even reveal some forgotten stories. There are no weapon finds, so everyone can play it.

I even bought a magnet myself for research. I pulled up bike locks, love-lock keys and an earring, which we gave to some kids who were watching us. For them it was a real treasure. That feeling of surprise is what I wanted to put into the game :)

The demo offers:

  • About 1.5 hours of cozy magnet fishing
  • Four unique waters to explore
  • A first taste of crafting and progression
  • Lovingly composed music and handcrafted pixel art

Steam demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4692490/Magnetic_Catch_Demo/

It would mean a lot to me if you gave it a try. Any feedback helps us shape the full game. Controller and Steam Deck support will come soon.

Happy magnet fishing!

AI disclosure: We used AI translation tools, but then had the texts reviewed by human native speakers. All other content was created by humans.

Hello people!

I'm a AAA dev that makes cute indie games on the side. My dream is to make games that are safe spaces for everyone.

The Little Crumb is a bakery management sim set in a toy-like world.

It has a Diner Dash / Lemon Cake vibe πŸ₯°

These are the things you can do in the game:

πŸ₯ Bake and serve delicious goodies

πŸ†™οΈ Upgrade your shop into a thriving bakery

πŸ’› Befriend the wooden locals

πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦° Customize your character

If you like it consider wishlisting it on steam

It would help a lot! Thank you 🧑

Hi, I'm Artem from BurGum Games! My wife and I are making small indie games - you could see our previous games here before (Tidy Backpack,Β Birdfull). We put so much love into our first game about fitting things into the backpack that there was no question whether we would make a sequel.

So, a couple of days ago we released Tidy Backpack: In the Faraway Lands! A cozy inventory management puzzle about fitting quirky sci-fi loot into the backpack.

In case you played our first game or it's just something you'd like to play, you can wishlist it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4612950/Tidy_Backpack_In_the_Faraway_Lands/

We received really warm feedback from players on our first game, so we hope this one brings those feelings back!

Feel free to ask any questions about the game and its future - I’d be happy to discuss it with you!

πŸ”Š Discussion Songs of Glimmerwick is my game of the year

I'm having so much fun with the game and I pretty much love everything about it. The lore, the atmosphere, the ambient noise when it's raining or at night with the crickets, the art style, the voice acting and the charming characters, but especially the lack of being forced to go to sleep or eat for stamina to do anything (I hate both) and that there's not a huge focus on farming.
