Groton was my first duty station way back when. A lot of people call it rotten Groton, but I enjoyed my time there. You’ll be about 2ish hours from NYC and Boston. Mystic is a small town not far from Groton where they serve the best lobster rolls I’ve ever had. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods have great concerts, food, and a lot to do besides the gambling (recommend not getting into that).

Not sure how the clinic is nowadays, but work is work just do your job and do it well.

Groton itself is fairly meh. What matters is that it is close to great places. Yale is 90 minutes down the road. Providence is a great city to meet people. Boston and NYC are a 2 hour drive.

Don't get bogged down by the negativity. Typically speaking, some of the "worst" locations tend to be the best. Just as long as you're willing to try new things.

Spent 3 tours there, one as enlisted and two as an officer. It is a great stepping stone to visit New England (my favorite was Boston) and plenty of opportunities for higher education.

E-3 is too low to be IDC, but if you plan on staying in go and meet with the sub IDC and lower base clinic. Unlikely you can get a ride-along on a sub at your rank, but ask anyway. Groton is a good base to get your clinicals in and don't forget to grab your 4 seasons of PT.
