Twenty years ago, if you told me an actor with a bit part in a Star Wars movie would revive Commodore and return the C64 to production, I'd ask what you were smoking and where I might get some too.

Cue the scene from Back to the Future:

Doc Brown: "Tell me, Future Boy, who's President of the United States in 1985?"
Marty: "Ronald Reagan."
Doc Brown: "Ronald Reagan! The actor?! Then who's vice-president, Jerry Lewis? I suppose Jane Wyman is the First Lady! And Jack Benny is Secretary of the Treasury!

😅

I think he was in Notting Hill too, a background extra.

Removed - I think you are misreading this comment as an attack; it is not.

It was not meant as an attack at all, just that it's something I never would have seen coming back then.

I believe that is the only factory in China.

1

u/Dick_Lazer 18d ago

1.4 Billion people, only one factory. It's a really big factory though

Unironically I keep being annoyed by the other tech/nerd channels sponsored by them because they never say it „the right way“ lol

I’m enjoying my C64U bread bin. It’s really tempting to get this too

1

Just buy a c64c case and put it in it.

u/AJD_1975 18d ago

I can’t take that seriously!

Call me Shirley then.

I like the new box and manual design for the 64C Ultimate. Cannot wait to see what they do for the Cyberpunk C77 version now.

They are shipping now?

Wonder how long until mine shows up?

I hink it was ordered in May.

Same for the TAC-2 joystick, wonder when I will see those?

It's from a Patreon only video which was out about a week ago. At the end of that he shows a stack of c64c cartons. Apparently they are doing the founders edition first with this model, so it may depend on that.

What does the ultimate bring that the previous one didn’t

7

u/Suspicious-Ad7109 19d ago

You mean the thing it's built on top of, the Ultimate board ? Well, it's pretty much the same thing, but it's cheaper, finished, comes with a manual etc and has a massively expanded user base, and a user base means that products and software will likely appear purely for it.

😍 Beautiful!

Still haven't bought a new gen yet. Other than the brand new mini in the closet. Bought one when they were intro'd. Checked the contents, put One on One and some other stuff on a stick, and NEVER connected it.

Comma Eight Comma One ;)

Has there been any updates on shipping? Last I read it was going to be early September. Doesn’t seem like September is the happening thing now.

I have the C64U breadbin but this looks really good to me, perhaps I should get the starlight edition.

Is it me or does that plastic look ... cheeeeeep

1

u/Marcio_D 18d ago

If you want to replicate the C64C case as it was made in the 80's and early 90's, you have to make the plastic look cheap for that authentic feel.

3

u/0xc0ffea 18d ago

That's such a weird cope .. The OG plastics are still pretty solid.

-2

u/arjanver 19d ago

It is. I think its also a shame production is in China or such.

2

u/Marcio_D 18d ago

Where else other than China or a similar place? Would you be willing to pay substantially more for it to be made in Europe?

Aren't these pictures from some months ago?
