Self-Promo I spent several years making a 4-issue fantasy comic — here's how it turned out

Hey everyone!

I’m Ivan, the writer/co-creator of Tenea, an indie fantasy comic illustrated by Misagi.

We’ve completed the full 4-issue story, and I wanted to share some pages and art from the project.

Tenea follows a young girl who gains dangerous spiritual powers and has to learn how to use them while dealing with fear, responsibility, friendship, spirits and monsters.

The comic was originally published online and has since received coverage from several comic reviewers. One thing I’m especially proud of is that the story is actually complete — all four issues are finished.

I’m sharing it here because I’d also love to connect with other comic creators. I’m especially interested in seeing what everyone else is working on and hearing about your experiences making indie comics.

If you’re curious about Tenea, I’ll leave the links in the comments.

Thanks for taking a look!

Razzberry is a dark, adult-oriented comic series set in the year 2197. It showcases a sprawling post-collapse world divided between the dystopian, walled, drug-fueled city known as “Mirth” and the brutal nightmarish wasteland beyond its walls. We are thrust into a day in the life of Razz's messy existence as a marauding succubus, that chases research-chem highs and is fueled by blood money.

Razzberry serves as the explosive opening chapter of the larger Psycho Complex universe. This first mini-series introduces the dangerous, techno-fueled city dweller whose path will one day collide with a hardened hunter-gatherer from the wasteland beyond the walls — two vastly different survivors drawn together in a much bigger story of survival, revenge, and moral collapse. With its feverish blend of cyber-noir brutality, mythic hallucination, and unflinching character work, Psycho Complex is built for readers who crave dark, addictive stories that refuse to look away. New page every week!

u/dommnics and I met on this subreddit in 2019, when Dom was looking for a writer to develop a little comic he created in university called Kloud 9.

From there, we hit it off, and now, 7 YEARS LATER, the first book in our YA queer sci-fi graphic novel trilogy, Kloud 9: The Star Soldier, is now out EVERYWHERE!

Visit this link if you're interested in reading our beautiful book: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/808840/kloud-9-the-star-soldier-by-aj-o-mason/

If you end up reading it, please feel free to share your thoughts with us :)

It's self published - I'm the writer (Goanna G.), line art by Patrick O'Donnell, inks by P.R.Soliver, colors by Nimesh Morarji.

The cover is by Patrick O'Donnell.

Here are first six pages - It is a 100 page story, staying true to the spirit of the originals, with some added visual cheesecake.

Any questions (except about rates, I'd leave that to the artists) I will happily answer. Also any feedback, positive or negative is welcome!

I'm publishing it through KDP on Amazon ($10/$15, for digital/print).

Self-Promo I found my artist, my trailer editor, and my campaign designer on this sub. ManPhibian #1 launches on Kickstarter October 15.

This sub built most of my team, so I wanted to share where it led.
I came here as a first-time creator with a story outline and no idea how to make a comic. This is where I found Fabricio Vainer, who is drawing the book; Crina, who made the trailer; and Winston Gambro (u/Redfoxyboy), who designed the campaign page graphics. Sean Meighen scripted it from my outline, and Wes Rhoads is coloring.
ManPhibian is about Carl Karadonis, a man who had already lost everything before he fell into the East River and came out with a sentient shark arm.
I made this around a full-time career in finance, so I learned most of it the hard way: page rates, file handoffs, vetting collaborators. Happy to answer questions from anyone just starting out.

Self-Promo We wanna Welcome you to Caullett Comics: Looking for people. (Pay would Varie)

To those who find themselves here, and those with a dream story to tell. Welcome to Caullett Comics, founded by my friend RJ Caullett and assistant managed by me.

We are a startup indie comics publisher focused on giving creators a more open and creator-friendly place to tell stories. At our core, we value passion, creativity, and storytelling above perfection. We know not every creator has industry-level experience, and we never want artists or writers to feel discouraged from creating because they think they “aren’t good enough yet.”

That being said, we still value effort and dedication. We simply want creators doing the best they can with the skills they currently have. And for creators who may not draw themselves, we are more than happy to help connect them with commission artists looking for opportunities and collaboration.

Most importantly, Caullett Comics will always respect creator rights and ownership over the stories and worlds you create. We will operate through three different publishing divisions: two anthology projects and one solo publishing division.

Collective Comics is our main comic anthology project. Inspired by classic American comic anthologies and magazines like Weekly Shōnen Jump, this division allows multiple creators to publish stories together within the same release cycle. Stories can range from ongoing serialized series to mini-series or one-shots. Our goal with Collective Comics is to create a more flexible and less stressful publishing environment where creators can steadily work on their stories without overwhelming pressure or impossible deadlines.

Collage Chronicles is our own experimental prose-focused anthology project. While illustrations and visual elements are encouraged, they are not required. This division exists for writers who are passionate about storytelling, but don't wanna force themselves into an unfamiliar medium, we want you all to value worldbuilding, storytelling in your preferred ways. Similar to Light Novel magazines, creators can publish their stories chapter-by-chapter over time rather than needing to complete an entire book before publication. We want this anthology to become a welcoming place for indie writers who want their stories seen and shared.

Finally, we have Solo Stories. Unlike the anthology divisions, Solo Stories are reserved for projects that meet a more specialized standard for standalone publishing. These are stories that demonstrate the ability to function independently as full solo releases within comic shop environments. All stories, regardless of division, will be published on a monthly basis, and we will have a set of criteria that will help determine whether a project is better suited for anthology publishing or solo publishing. After reviewing your submission, we’ll hold a meeting to talk about your project, your future goals for the story, and which division we believe best fits your vision.

The reason we created these divisions is simple: we genuinely want to give creators opportunities with less risks. Over the years, we’ve seen countless passionate indie projects go unnoticed despite the amount of love and effort poured into them. Too many creators lose motivation because they feel overlooked or feel like they can never compare to established industry names. We don’t want talented people giving up on stories that deserve to exist.

Caullett Comics was created to help provide a place where creators can grow, collaborate, improve, and most importantly, actually have a chance to tell the stories they care about. So if you believe in storytelling as much as we do, we’d love for you to give us a chance.

Other things to know about us, regardless of WHEREVER your book would go when pitched here with us, we want to always 100% guarantee Opportunities for Solo Volumes and Full books for everyone's different stories. Crowdfunding, patreons, and any kind of fan based support will be encouraged for any and all creators, alongside us of course being able to provide payment ourselves as well.

If you already have a book project in the works, or even have a book published as a web comic, but you would like to transition your story, please do not be afraid to wanna bring your book into the fold. We will respect all that you wanna do with your creation. Don't be afraid of your dreams. We will do our absolute best to help all of you.

The images provided are labels for the divisions, as well as already published works by RJ and some friends. If you're interested in joining our discord server, you let us know!

Hey all,

I just finished a Kickstarter campaign for my series The Mask of Silence issue #1. Ultimately that campaign was unsuccessful, but I want to put out this book into the world anyways. I have posted the comic in a high-quality digital download on my website travisvandervelden.com if you want to check it out.

If you like indie books, wrestling, or crime fiction then this is the book for you! Check it out if you can.

Edit: just updating to say thank you to everyone for the support, kind words, and advice. I'm definitely going to keep writing the series. And I will have a better game plan for Kickstarter in the future. I appreciate this community a lot!

Self-Promo I’d like to share my comic — Tenea

Hey everyone!

My name is Ivan, and I’m the writer/co-creator of Tenea, an indie fantasy comic illustrated by Misagi.

Tenea follows a teenage girl who gains dangerous spiritual powers and wants to prove that she can be useful to her people. Along the way, she has to face spirits, monsters, fear and difficult choices while learning about courage, responsibility and friendship.

The story is inspired by mythology and legends of Indigenous peoples of North America, combined with our own fantasy adventure story.

Tenea is a completed four-issue story, and there are also ideas for continuing Tenea’s adventures in the future.

The comic has already received reviews from several comic publications, which has been really encouraging for us.

If you enjoy fantasy comics, mythology, supernatural creatures and coming-of-age adventures, I’d love for you to check it out.

Many moons ago, my co-creator, artist, and best friend, Dominic Bustamante and I met here, after Dominic put up a post looking for a writer to develop an idea for a comic book with him (the post in question).

Fast forward 7 years later, and now the first graphic novel in our YA queer sci-fi trilogy, Kloud 9, is COMING OUT THIS JULY from Top Shelf/IDW! Here's what it's about:

Teenager Kal is an Earthling without much purpose in life. Cosmot’urr Col Al’neyr, or Cosmo for short, is an alien struggling to find his place in the galaxy. Sparks fly when the two meet—but when Cosmo’s past catches up with him, Kal is forced to make a choice: remain on Earth or follow his crush into the great unknown.

If that book sounds interesting to you at all, let your comic shop know (FOC is June 1st) or preorder here: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/808840/kloud-9-the-star-soldier-by-aj-o-mason/

Thank you ComicBookCollabs for making our dreams of being published comic book authors come true! We wouldn't be here without you!

Self-Promo So, we just submitted our project to Dark Horse Comics. Hopefully they'd accept, and it'd be awesome that they accept because that would mean we would be the first Filipino nobodies that actually got their first original comic book series accepted by DH Comics. It would be kinda historic in a way.

Stay tuned as the first issue is coming out at the beginning of THIS SUMMER
