Teams that fired their head coaches during the season.

Teams that fired their head coaches during the regular season since 2020 are:

Panthers, Raiders - 2 each

Bears, Chargers, Colts, Falcons, Jaguars, Jets, Lions, Saints, Texans - 1 each

First rate organizations don't fire coaches or GMs during the season. Good candidates aren't available right now, anyway.

Jeff Saturday's available, I hear.

Yes, it's looking like the Colts will clean house. And it's probably the right thing to do. No one is arguing against it.

But let's hope they do it at the end of the season. The Colts don't want to join the Dummy Deuce Club with the Panthers and the Raiders.

Yeah let’s not do that shit again. I was in a spot with the Reich firing where I was ok with the decisiveness, but keeping Ballard just made it all for naught.

I’m still cool with firing Reich. He seemed like a good dude but was also a weirdo who let loyalty get in the way of success imo

Yeah, honestly if we’re going to have a shitty coach that’s a cool person I’d rather have Pagano.

Honestly Grigson made Pagano look a lot worse than he was.

u/Former_Phrase8221 1d ago

What? Didn't Bruce Arians go 10-2 with Grigsons roster?

Had Irsay let Grigson keep Arians over Pagano. We might have an Andrew Luck Super Bowl

2

u/russaber82 10h ago

Oh Arians was the man for the job, though irsay was in an impossible situation, you could hardly fire a guy for having cancer. But if Pagano had anything other than luck and a couple receivers he would have had a much better tenure. Andrew hid a lot of roster holes.

Yeah he hitched his wagon to Wentz and it cost him (and us)

Yeah, it’s not like we have a first round to tank for anyway so best to wait.

This is why i want us to be around .500... The thought of giving the Jets a top 5-10 pick makes me sick.

The thought of giving the Jets a top 5-10 pick makes me sick

They're most likely gonna waste it anyway

The Colts do have all the other picks plus waiver wire order.

I disagree the defense is  starting to go through the motions theres no accountability lets start changing the culture now

Agree that you can't do it in the middle of the season. No GM or coach worth their salt will come to a place where they think they can be fired in the middle of the year.

Honestly a possible bright side that we have given Ballard this long. Potential hires would see that they would be given time to do it their way.

In all fairness though, if we lose to the Tits, I'm jumping on the fire everyone train lol

GMs should be lining up to come to Indy.

Think of the job security!

Honestly a good point lmfao. Not good enough to win the worst division in football in a whole decade? How does 6 mil/year sound

1

u/russaber82 1d ago

You jest, but im sure its a positive, especially for a younger coach walking into a rebuild.

6

u/mikesmith0890 Dallas Clark 1d ago

Why not? Their contract is guaranteed either way.

u/sirius4778 squirrel 1d ago

Mid season firing is just a quicker booking to Cabo baybee. In all seriousness I'm not sure the scrutiny of being a lame duck for a whole season is much better than fired week 5

3

u/Stennick 1d ago

Or you could look at it with sticking with Balard for a decade hurt the team so they'll pull the trigger quicker next time.

7

u/Express_Bat6233 1d ago

Like half those teams are good though. This post says nothing

Also first rate teams dont fire their coach midseason because they dont fire their coach at all

4

u/TacoDayDay 20h ago

Or they have moved on quicker than we have.

Honestly no point in firing everyone. We will have at least 2 years of sucking, fire everyone after the end of the season, and slowly build the next team

I fucking hope Carlie is taking a lot of important notes on the sidelines, but firing these losers is the easy part. Who is she going to hire? Who is she really going to trust to run her team. Those are the questions that need to be answered. The best candidate is going to know it’s a tough spot for the immediate future.

1

u/northegreat1 19h ago

Let's not underate Carlie -- she is very capable of screwing this up and running it back with an even higher sense of urgency than before!

8

u/Stennick 1d ago

The problem in firing your GM and HC together is that you ideally need a GM first to hire your HC, so by the time the GM is found, all the good HC's are off the market.

6

u/Active-Limit-9038 1d ago

I don't think any of the "good" HCs will want to come here regardless.

The top HCs on the market will choose to go somewhere with a QB in place, or lots of assets to try to get one. We have neither.

3

u/russaber82 1d ago

I would think fans like this would be the worst negative. Seriously though, the Irsays patience and loyalty are worth something significant. If you were an up and coming HC candidate would you wanna go to the Browns and likely be in the street after 20 games, or go to Indy knowing they are gonna give you a chance to really implement your system and culture?

2

u/NiceGuy2424 23h ago

NFL teams don't care about the fans. They care about money.

1

u/Active-Limit-9038 1d ago

If you were an up and coming HC candidate, would you want to go to a team with the QB situation already figured out, a team with extra draft picks or other valuable assets, or the team with no QB, few assets, and no first round pick?

2

u/northegreat1 19h ago

Great jobs with great QBs are rarely available -- that's why they are great. There are only 32 coaches in the NFL. Any job is a good job. Belichick was trying to get to Atlanta if that tells you anything. Can Tomlin be picky? Sure. Brian Flores, on the other hand, would take any job offered to prove himself as a head coach. I'd like to see what he can do, but I think he will be a popular candidate around the league.

1

u/NiceGuy2424 23h ago

That's not a problem. That's the way it should work.

2

u/clear831 Indianapolis Colts 1d ago

Doubt anyone gets fired till black monday tbh, so dont be disappointed. New GM should bring in his own coaching staff

3

u/AccessQuiet432 1d ago

How many times a week is Ballard and Steichen going to make this same post?

1

u/Leather-Quiet6967 20h ago

I'd much rather see Ballard go first. Then let the next GM decide on Steichen. Ballard has built this shit roster and now the team doesn't even have a first rounder for the next draft. This is hardly a Steichen issue.

1

u/TacoDayDay 20h ago

I know there have been other discussions around mid season firings make you a poverty franchise. I think that is just a symptom of the problem. Being in position to fire someone mid season is what makes you a poverty franchise no matter if you pull the trigger or not. It's just semantics. Teams like the Steelers/Ravens/Eagles all would have fired Steichen and Ballard after last season. They wouldn't have went all in on a corner because they would have known the roster wasn't one player away and that wasn't the biggest issue with the roster.

We already are the laughing stock of the NFL doesn't matter if we join the dummy deuce club or not. Because the results already put us there.

1

u/AncientChannel8863 2h ago

I believe that if the Colts are 5-7 or worse when the bye week comes around, Shane Steichen will get fired and Jim Bob Cooter takes over the interim head coaching job for 5 weeks. It will be Ballards last ditch effort to save his job before he is ultimately gone during the offseason.

0

u/Any_Reason_2588 1d ago

We may not want to join, but it’s where we belong unfortunately.

This was so blatantly predictable after the 2024 season.

-4

u/FreezingTemps 1d ago

There is zero point in keeping the status quo. I would rather they throw an assistant coach in there and see what they can do. We aren’t doing anything this year, Ballard and Steichen are likely not coming back, and sadly our assets will be sold off. Rip the band aid off and do it now to see what we got.

3

u/KneeFar3116 Carson Wentz 1d ago

Yeah let’s promote Lou 😭. Maybe Jim Bob could be solid though.

u/Redjeepkev 1d ago

Let Carlie take over HC duties I'm sure she could call better plays than Stichen

0

u/NiceGuy2424 23h ago

LeT cArLiE tAkE oVeR HC dUtIeS.

(Worst post award) 🥇

1

u/Redjeepkev 17h ago

She couldn't possibly do any worse than Stichen at this point. Stichen is an idiot

-1

u/Bubmack 1d ago

Shit we’re still trying to make the playoffs. You colts doomers are something else

2

u/northegreat1 19h ago

Yeah, good luck with that pal. Why don't you slap some money on them to go to the playoff on FanDuel or something.

-2

u/Gold-Lingonberry-761 1d ago

Ya I would 100% agree, until we got steichen and LOU. They are the #1 and #2 worst coaches in the league. Thats gotta be the first time ever in the history of all sports. The players do not respect them. The players deserve better. Their families deserve better. Its a game but it has implications on everyone's live. They shouldve been fired last off-season. They got an extra shot. Now theyre just putting good money after bad at this point. Give sparano the head coaching position atleast. And bring in Robert Mathis or whoever as D coordinator. Gary bracket was a smart player. Or maybe Tony dingy would be even interested to stand in for the season as an advisor. Ballard needs to change something cuz this shits embarassing

3

u/littlejugs 1d ago

Lou might be the worst dc but calling steichen who has taken multiple backup qbs within one game of the playoffs one of the worst coaches in the league is insane. He has underperformed and should be fired, but that doesnt make him worst in the league. He inherited a terrible dc in gus Bradley and was stuck with a bad GM that never put together a competent pass rush or fixed the qb situation and leaves big gaping holes in the roster every single season. With what shane has had to work with i think its fair to say he has done a better job than most coaches would have. It would probably benefit both sides to move on at this point though

-1

u/Gold-Lingonberry-761 1d ago

This is Browns level. The play calling is the worst iv ever seen. By far. I can call every one of steichen plays from my couch....I can just know for a fact that the defense is gonna give up a chunk play cuz someone is out of position. And the players are already giving up. Cuz its effing stupid

0

u/rtmeinsen 1d ago

I’m curious if you were able to do that last season for like a 6 game stretch when the colts didn’t punt a single time? If so then you should be a head coach in the league right now.

2

u/AF555 20h ago

It doesn't take great play calls to beat the likes of the Titans (twice), Raiders, Dolphins, Falcons...haha. They were all dumpster fires at the time we played them and any team in the league that had our schedule outside of those few probably would have had the same record.

2

u/rtmeinsen 9h ago

I didn’t say win. I said punt. We accomplished a feat that had never been accomplished in the nfl before. It was Shane calling my those plays. So my last comment still stands. If the previous commenter truly can call each one of those very time then he’s better than every DC or HC in the game.
