It's been years since I watched Clannad during my HS days and still to this day refuses to fully watch after story (since I know what will happen and my heart can't take it). I'm now old and greying yet seeing Clannad merch while merch hunting in china still gets me very emotional 😭

I've watched and read so many stories like these over the years but I think Clannad is the only one that's basically seared itself into my mind if not soul. I can't be the only one right?

I had heard that *Clannad After Story* was very sad and that many (if not all) people who watched it cried. But after watching it myself, aside from shedding a single tear during episode 18, I didn't cry at all. I wanted to know if anyone else felt the same way.

Is there a Clannad port available for Android? I know there exists a japanese one, but does an English one exist?

searched up "clannad wallpapers" and an old post from 2012 on this sub popped up lol. just wanted to say that clannad was one of my firsts and i think there hasn't been a single day i haven't thought about it. i still remember the day where i was crying my eyes out after watching it and my heart sinking deeper with every single one of those last 5 episodes in clannad afterstory. its been about a year since my first journey in the anime world and no other show has managed to pull on my heartstrings quite like this one did. not to mention the soundtrack, it still brings back the exact same wave of emotions every time i hear it. if i had to describe this show in one word, it would be "masterpiece". I also started playing the visual novel, which is one of the first visual novels I've ever played, and of course I'm going with nagisa's route first! how did this show impact you when you watched it?

after years of only playing Kyou, Kotomi and Tomoyo route then forgetting about it, I finished the game

Kyou is still my favorite though, her route is what the anime didn't do that well and I'm glad I finished it .

The app I use is Sketchbook for iOS and Samsung, which I understand it’s cheap to digital artists probably, but I don’t have plans on upgrading to a art tablet because I don’t draw often to improve my skills. I’m a writer foremost and as one, I can improve my work better. Drawing is something I just can’t be good at as it is. And I’m fine with that. No need to worry what I think.

I already know there's an English patch for it but the English patch is only available for the real PSP not the PPSSPP emulator

I had previously asked a question whether I should drop the series when I was in season 1 episode 17. But many of you encouraged me to power through. I ended up finishing the entire thing including After Story and all the OVAs. Here are my thoughts -

True to the hype, episode 16 to 23 of season 2 are really good. Especially post Nagisa's death. The series really captures parenthood very well and is pretty sincere in its depiction of father-daughter relationship including all the flaws. I appreciated the unfiltered, no sugar-coat approach of the entire Ushio arc. Some of the best episodes in the series. I'd say best but that would go to Misae's arc with her cat. That genuinely touched me. Tomoya's relationship with his father is very nicely directed too and we see his struggles as a father himself and gaining empathy for his own which felt both organic and genuine.

Now for the bad parts. I did not like Nagisa or felt anything towards her throughout the show. She has no discerning qualities and comes across as a pretty generic caring waifu. We don't get to know what she likes, her hobbies (whether she likes movies, games, animals, or writes poetry). Really anything to set her apart. He entire existence seemed as if to care for Tomoya and being ill. That's it. You can replace her with Ryou, another character with no distinguishable attributes, and I doubt anything would change. Compared to Tomoyo and Kyou, the two female characters who stand out the most and have great depth to their personalities, Nagisa just didn't have anything going for her.

The OVA with Tomoyo is what I consider the strongest arc of the series even better than Ushio's and second only to Misae's.

The other arc which didn't make sense was Sunohara's. I had great expectations of his character development but it was completely off the mark. Tomoya wanted him to act as a responsible brother to his younger sister but instead of just talking things out like you would in real life, he pretended to be dating her, to make Sunohara get protective of her and realise his responsibilities. Very soap opera-esque and overly melodramatic to the point it completely killed the momentum of After Story before the series bounces back. Sunohara's arc is by far the weakest in the entire series including the two seasons and OVA in my opinion.

Yukine's arc with the rival gangs I felt was completely avoidable and served as filler. Entertaining enough but filler nonetheless.

In my opinion Clannad is a series which has its moments but it is inconsistent in its narrative. Is it one of the greats? The last arc with Ushio if taken as a separate series sure but taken in its entirety, it falls somewhere in the middle. The series in my opinion could have been made into a solid 26 episodes one, where the fillers could have been minimised and certain arcs omitted. But I am happy that I watched the series and want to thank everyone who encouraged me to finish it.
