Rules for Developers of City Builders [Read before posting]

The following rules are now implemented for game developers:

- Non verified developers can post in the megathread (1x per month), and approved developers are also allowed to post 1x per month here. Reports should be made on content that is excessive, spammy, etc.
- Become a verified developer and be able to post as often as necessary (no specific limits for trailers, updates, etc, but please be mindful and do not spam posts as this could lead to losing your flair). NOTE: This allows posting OUTSIDE of the megathread.

Please send a modmail to get approved as a "Developer" with the flair in the subreddit. Include the following:

Developer Reddit Name:
Game Developed:
Store page (if available):
What amount of AI is used and how:
Any other relevant information:

Adapt or die (buried in crap).

Love it, I hope this becomes a trend in more subs. There is way too much garbage being posted lately.

At this point it almost feels like moderation is just to prevent dead internet theory and slop... far more of it than any actual drama.

I love it. So many other subs have given up due to all of the slop.

I don't know why I care but I do.

I think it's my inner child who loved Sim City 3000 lol

Thank you. This may be one of my favorite subs on reddit and this will help keep all the vibe coded nonsense away!

Thank you! Much better idea.

I have been working on a city builder for almost 5 years. I was so afraid from the last post that I was going to be relegated to a mega thread full of slop 🫠

How is this a win the 1 a month rule alreadt rxisted with the verfiied tjing we will get absoltuely flooded with even more spam/ads

If verified developers abuse the tag, they will be warned, then it will be removed.

I mean self promotion is abuse and advertising pay for ads if you want this is why teh subreddit is spammed, ai is not the issue ads are

0

u/IronicStar 15h ago

Self promotion is not abuse just because you feel so, this subreddit has always welcomed developers.

Why not rename it then to citybuilderadveritising? Since thats just what it is then if we just continue allowing spam ads

Nobody ever actually reads mega threads. This is a death sentence for small developers.

All developer sizes (solo, small, etc) can apply for the verified developer flair. Those who do not wish to do so for whatever reason can post in the megathread, but the developer flair is not given only to specific developer sizes, nor do you need an official store to apply. This is a filter to add a step (messaging) that filters out many super low quality crossposts. It also adds a sniff test where we may look at post history before allowing free range posting. I added an addendum to clarify, those who are verified are allowed to post freely outside of the megathread.

Small and verified are very different. Solo devs and the like just need an extra step

I feel like with all this megathread devs and people can't interact and find new games in developments..feels like the sub it's dead, idk why this of devs posting new games in development and updates of citybuilders made people upset in a citybuilder subreddit? I voted but after 2 days the sub it's just dead..people don't even go on megathread to see post of devs..

The interaction it's low..

I understand the move against AI games with zero dev implication but the rest it's just feels against devs and us fans of citybuilders

I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding the rule that was implemented. Approved developers are able to post as much as they like outside of the megathread (as well as 1x per month inside it). Verified developers can post as frequently as they like as long as it isn't spam in the main subreddit. The megathread is for those who do not wish to verify.

You clarified everything for me, thank you very much, i didn't understand first and thinked no o ne could post anymore and would be once a month and i feel bad..sorry my bad understanding of something i read to fast..sorry

Like for real, why anyone be angry on a subreddit for citybuilders be angry of announcements and developments update of games? This feels crazy? You can scroll and past them if you don't like, it's not like anyone it's spamming them everyday.. but to force people to post an update 1 a month or an announcement it's feel like you don't care about us that scroll everyday to fight something knew, to support someone new..

What's the logic? If.the game it's built with passion and minimal AI involvement why can't they post multiple times in a month?

What's the point of the subreddit at this stage? Before this nonsense i find here games and questions + discussions that improved my playtime with quality citybuilders..now i don't even enter 2 times a day..maybe would enter 1 month to see something here with this nothing new..

Plus this megathread is useless..look at tycon subreddit they don't force people on the megathread anymore..
