Mod Post 9/25/25 Update to Sub Rules

Hey everyone,

We are adding a new rule:

No off-topic content

No off-topic content, including politics, current events, or anything not specifically related to circumcision grief.

We just wanted to outline the reason for this change and what it means for the sub going forward. First and foremost, the focus of this sub is to provide a space for discussing circumcision grief. There has been a lot going on in the world recently, and we'd like to ensure that the sub stays on topic as much as possible in order to support users as best as possible. Please refrain from posting content that is outside the scope of the sub.

Additionally, we have added an IGM flair for intersex users.

Thank you all for continuing to keep the sub supportive!

Mod Post It’s okay to be hurting and it is okay to grieve - an informational post about r/CircumcisionGrief

Hello all! I’m a new moderator here, and I wanted to make a PSA post for newcomers and visitors to this subreddit. We’ve gotten some modmails about this, had to take moderation action against users who don’t understand the nature of this sub, and we’ve even had some misconceptions pop up about us being a negative subreddit that isn’t healthy for healing.

This community is a safe and welcoming space for victims of genital mutilation to come and share their feelings, their stories, their traumas, and have support in their journey to healing. We offer one of the only spaces on social media where people can freely discuss the grieving process and pain and get peer support for it, from other people who understand the harm of genital mutilation and the ever-present societal gaslighting about circumcision. This isn’t a debate sub - this is a subreddit run by intactivists, who understand that circumcision is really harmful.

Grief is an ugly and yet very necessary thing, and it can manifest itself in ways that don’t make sense to someone who isn’t actively experiencing it. To have your body violated so deeply, to have your freedom of choice ripped away from you... it can cause many very real and intense emotions. This can include hopelessness, a feeling of powerlessness, and a feeling of being lesser, inferior... broken.

It is okay to be angry. To have anger at a legal system that refused to prevent it from happening to you (especially in the United States where only one sex gets legal protection - intersexed and male babies do not have this right). To have anger at a doctor who committed a grave ethical violation upon you by removing a part of your genitalia and damaging your sexuality. To have anger at your parents, the only people in the world who could’ve protected you from harm when you were a mere newborn or a child - and let you be hurt anyways.

The moderators are here to ensure this subreddit stays a safe and healthy space for everyone! Me personally, I’m a healer and an activist with lots of experience in other subs that address childhood trauma. I’ll do my absolute best to lend a helping hand and a listening ear to anyone who needs it. I’m also doing foreskin restoration and will totally be an accountability partner if you pursue that path too!

Grief is okay, and grief is valid. We’re all on a path to a better life, and we are all here to process our trauma. Remember that you aren’t alone, and that we can come together as a community to uplift each other.

Rant I get jealous of guys with more mild cuts

Just wanna say I appreciate the camaraderie of the restoration community from everything I’ve seen but I wish some cut dudes knew how good they have it. I know youre all gonna say all circumcision is mutilation and I obviously agree but when I see someone with loads of inner skin, a perfectly even cut or a partially intact frenulum swear they have it really bad, I can’t help but roll my eyes. Sometimes I feel like if I just had enough skin to keep my scrotum off my shaft at all times I could sleep a bit more peacefully at night. But no, I gotta have this tight uneven cut that makes me lose half my insertable length on a cold day. Anyways dont wanna come off as hateful or bitter, just wanted to rant about this. I’m gonna keep going and maintain hope and you should too.

Rant What’s so funny about this?

I hate how it has been to just make fun of this and make jokes about it on Twitter. I saw cop someone playing with a cigar and saying guess what this is used for. And of course, the comments were just full of jokes about circumcision cause it’s so funny to make fun of isn’t it funny that we were assaulted by doctors isn’t that funny?

I don’t know what I did in life deserve constant drugs like this just popping up out of nowhere no matter where I go what I do or what words I block on websites, but I fucking hate it. It’s like what the fuck what is funny about this can this be funny if I made a joke about cutting a woman’s boobs that wouldn’t be funny wouldn’t it so what makes it funny when it’s a dick being mutilated is so funny

I don’t fucking understand and this shit always pops up out of nowhere to or right after I conveniently I am in distress about this which is basically every day it is such bullshit. I hate it. I swear just like motherfuckers are watching me or something. I didn’t like this shit in my life like I’m in the Truman show or some shit. It’s bullshit.

Rant Just going with the flow

Does anyone else absolutely hate these people? They’re easily 80% or more of the population, and they don’t have strong convictions or beliefs. You know them when you see them, their go-to thing to say when someone contradicts what they think is that that person is either weird or a loser. Anything that comes out of their mouth is whatever the mob has decided they must think, or else they’ll be ostracized by the group. They had no part in establishing what this belief is to begin with, there’s a few dozen aggressive people who made that happen while everyone else sat back and waited.

If the choice is to be one of them and help pedophiles in lab coats harvest organs from infants, or to be “weird”, then I’m more than happy to be “weird”. Fuck what the herd thinks, if they actually can think, doing what’s right is more important than fitting in with a bunch of morons.

Rant Make it make sense

I never understand how government like America’s feel 100% authority control over other people except when it comes to actually banning shit like this for example

I don’t know why believe taking the women’s right to an abortion away for any reason is that all justifiable but when it comes to a boys penis being mutilated because of some fake pedophile religion, bullshit or stuff like that they don’t say anything they don’t make it illegal in fact, some people say that it will be an attack on their religion if it was banned. Well guess what fuck face your religion deserves to be banned if this shit is acceptable.

I don’t understand why government think they have the right to our bodies what I can eat and put in it and what I can do with it, but have the audacity to not ban the very thing that stole my bottle of the autonomy not even 10 seconds after I was born it’s bullshit

Anger Got circumcised at 17. Regretting it ever since.

I was circumcised at 17 for phimosis and I've regretted it ever since. 8 years later and I have severe amounts of scar tissue (big balls of it that are always sore) sharp pain on the spots where there isn't any scar tissue, and have had problems with old stitches surfacing from the scar line from time to time. I hate it. It hurts, it looks hideous and makes me very insecure. I can't even get a full erection anymore!

Rant So upset today, I can't even describe it. NSFW

The post is 18+ nsfw So, everyone knows I'm completely heartbroken, but today I just want to touch on how unfair it is. I'm gay, and in my area it's mainly intact men, it's not common to come across cut guys, it's the most painful feeling, I'm so heartbroken. My penis is literally broken compared to theirs. My penis is completely ruined. There's nothing to move up and down, which is obviously the way you're meant to stimulate yourself, I also don't ever leak precum, not a drop, whilst my intact friend literally leaks like a faulty pipe. Whenever I even think about it, I feel despair. Why did I have to have this father, who ruined my penis? I can see all the negative ways it harmed him, even as a person, because it has such a impact on you on a person. I will never know what my original penis felt like. It's sometimes easier to have that thought pushed away in the back of my mind but as I get older, I will no doubt realise the gravity of the situation even more. I feel completely awful about it. I'm no angel, and can say I've made a lot of poor decisions in my life, but the joy my foreskin would have given me is insane, in good times and bad. Just a few strokes and you get to feel all the nerve endings responding strongly. The foreskin gives such a strong sensation, it's so easy for a intact man to masturbate, just a few strokes, or he can edge for a while. That's much harder in my experience for a cut guy because the nerve endings to tell you where you're at simply aren't there, you kind of finish or even sometimes go soft because you can't maintain that state of just edging. The loss of blood flow, means that my erections are so much less strong, which also doesn't help. I really wanted to know what mother nature gave me, my foreskin would have been the most significant part of my body since I sexually matured, it would have defined me in a sense since high school, i think i can say. Unfortunately my dad is cut too and he was never going to let me keep my foreskin no matter what. I was completely doomed, he is such a horrible bastard, doing what he did then. He knew full well that if he waited until I was 18 or older I'd have run a mile. He knows that because he also was basically tortured when he had his cut off, because where he's from it was traditional to make a scene of it, a real coming of age. Which makes me hate him and his family so much, how can I love a family that has basically always been cut? It's the greatest failure ever. When I die, it would be without ever feeling what having a foreskin is like. Imagine just discovering that part. Imagine the first time you retract it. Imagine the smell, the lovely smell that you'd have. Imagine jerking off with it, imagine the orgasm you could have every time, or how you could edge for hours and really feel it. Masturbation is meant to be one of the very best parts of our lives, hence the reason the ritual exists. It's absolutely unthinkable how different life may be. For the sake of his own selfish nature, and pathetic cruelty, I'll never get to experience my own foreskin because of my dad. He lacks that humanity that would mean he could see sense and be good enough to leave me intact. Whenever I look at a intact man, I remind myself I was born like them and would have lived like them for the rest of my days, i'm also gay obviously so it's often a mixture of liking them(trust me I'm very gay)and feeling the worst jealousy and sadness ever. Can you imagine what they take for granted every day of their lives, something i would give up everything in my bank account)he most intense jealousy and envy and grief in the pit of my stomach every time, i know I would be so much more happy as a person, i would be so much lighter, happier, more contented. Even just jerking off after dealing with whatever trouble you had in your life at the time, no matter what, having that incredible pleasure potential every minute they live is just so agonizingly far away got mr. It is the big itch I'll never get to scratch, no matter how sad I get. I was born with it, but now it feels like looking back on a unicorn, a totally different human being i was.

This is completely devastating guys... I can type whatever, but I just wish through the screen you can see how deep my pain goes. Every day the same longing and heartbreak, the same unfairness cuts deep into me like a knife through butter. In my opinion, having good sex and having self pleasure are the fundamental reasons to live as a human being, for many of us. It's what we're meant to do. Having a orgasm with someone you like is meant to be the pinnacle of life. For me it will just never feel good. What did I do to deserve being born to that man? My mother is not really to blame, but I really wish she had fought far more for me than she did, but i do believe her when she had no say in the decision and she had to put up with him and he was far worse to her. She tells me that she protested the decision in the car journey there and did tell him she didn't agree with it at all. She said she was completely scared of him and frightened.

he forced her to go along, inside the building at least. The poor woman is completely damaged for the rest of her life and she experiences similar feelings to me, for other reasons. I can't explain how miserable i am every day

There's honestly no reason to live, as a eunuch, there's no point.

But yes, my dad is a total psychopath, cunt, snake, wanker, all of that . Honestly, if you met him, he's just so genuinely unpleasant, and very manipulative. It makes total sense he didn't care about how I felt about being cut, he genuinely never has seen me as a independent person ever. He knows I wouldn't want it at 18 and he knows that it's a humiliation ritual because of his own past. I'm quite sure they still have photos and videos of his circumcision day still in his home where he lived. Unfortunately it's like a mechanical instinct in men like him, to have their sons cut, a obligation. I never stood a chance. I'm just completely gutted right now, I really wanted better for myself. I would be a different man right now if I had the chance to experience my foreskin and stay intact like I was meant to be, i am sure I would have been so much happier. Not enduring depression and not having to deal with the toll of going down the rabbit hole and feeling like shit for years would have changed me. I keep reminding myself when I'm on gay sites, when i'm sexting men, that i am no different to them - i wasn't born with aposthia, i just think fuck how did i get so brutally unlucky to be cut, how terrible it is. The looping negative thoughts are always there and you know, they won't go away. I still think back to the days I was a kid and completely blissfully unaware of it. I will die unhappy and bitter and broken because of this. I get told all the time human beings should be resilient, and i do feel guilty for being so upset, because there's so much worse suffering on this earth. but this has completely broken me. If suicide was easier it'd be the logical choice. Life without good sex, without good masturbating is honestly pointless and totally self defeating. A big reason why Circumcision was carried out is because they know it will have a harmful impact, the humiliation and destroying of something so valuable. The base of Circumcision is just sacrificing the most valuable part of you... history agrees with me, if it wasn't such a wonderful, amazing, special body part, religions and cultures and societies would never have cherry picked it to be cut off us.

If anyone read this then I say thank you for reading my thoughts and feelings. And moderators, if this is too inappropriate or NSFW 🔞 then please do take it down.

Rant Wondering if I’m even still an intactavist anymore.

I do often wonder if I’m even and activist anymore. A lot of this is just feeling like it’s bleeding into a big “ what’s the point.” My body is already ruined. And will always be ruined. So it just feels pointless for me to even try when
1. All I get when I voice why it’s wrong is gaslighting
2. I’m already ruined so what’s the point

That’s not to say I’m pro circumcision by any means. Anyone who practices it can go fuck themselves. But I just don’t care anymore ( or at least currently.) there’s no point I’ll be ruined forever and that’s that. So it just feels pointless to really do anything anymore at this point

Discussion Diagnosis of phimosis in young boys

Post image
43 Upvotes

The condition of phimosis is over-diagnosed in young children. I was diagnosed with it at 10 years old and was subjected to a very aggressive posthectomy which removed my foreskin and most of my penile shaft skin. As a young adult, my erections had a very tight webbing of skin on the top side of the shaft. And length was held back significantly. The process of restoring has helped relieve a lot of the issues such as skin tearing, bleeding, scarring and painful erections. I only wish the doctor would have recommended stretching exercises or steroid creams as a first line treatment. Or just leave me alone until my foreskin would naturally detach from glans and retract easily.

Intactivism The danger of pathologizing a child's foreskin

My father pathologized my foreskin as a child. I've been looking for this language to describe my own childhood experience, and found it in one of the responses to another post. My situation is one I don't see a lot of discussion about. I am the intact child (now in my later-50s) of a father who experienced a traumatic circumcision in his teens. The impact on his mental health was profound, and he managed to pass it on to me.

Dad died 10 yrs ago, and I never shared my feelings about all this with him. But I recently got up the nerve to ask my mom, "why did you not have me circumcised?". She said that dad was against it, and that when I was born he heard the screams of another child undergoing circumcision and that sealed the deal. A week after she told me this she messaged to say that she 'just remembered' dad telling her about his circumcision experience when he was 16. She was so cold about it, considering that she knew I was confronting an existential crisis about what follows in the next paragraphs. She said "maybe this is what is behind some of your distress". Thanks mom.

Anyway, here's the full story of my childhood experience:

When I was around 5 year old, dad decided to start teaching me about retraction and cleaning. But my body wasn't ready...the forced retraction of my foreskin was a painful experience that is indelibly marked on my memory forever. I screamed "It hurts" and "Stop!". He didn't. There was a sense this was 'for my own good'. And I remember hearing him say, as clearly as if he were standing next to me now, "Oooo...it's so tender." Ugh. But this was only the first harm. Through my childhood, after this first excruciatingly painful retraction of my foreskin 'for cleaning', he would insist that I stand in the tub in front of him and pull back my skin so he could watch me wash my penis. Sometimes this ritual was accompanied by commentary like "if you don't keep it clean you might need a circumcision." And when I no longer needed tub supervision (and then up until I reached puberty) he would often ask when I came out of the bath, "did you clean your penis?" (Well, dad, that was the best part of the bath!!)

These bath experiences were humiliating. His behaviour--his pathologization of something fundamentally normal--caused deep psychological trauma for me that I am continuing to heal from, finally under the care of a clinical counsellor. These experiences made me fearful. I think it was like castration anxiety--that I might loose something intimately important to me. I was convinced my likelihood of needing a circumcision in the future was greater than not. Sometime along the way he told me about cultures that circumcise boys when they reach 'maturity'. My heightened curiosity about circumcision as a procedure and as a cultural marker led me to research incessantly in libraries. There was no internet, but I found all the books that reinforced my perception of circumcision as desirable, and intactness as deficiency. I believed for a while that I might need to (or in my head, that dad might make me) 'get a circumcision' when I was 12 years old. The fear was so real.

His messaging also made me intensely self conscious, so that I couldn't be comfortable in public bathrooms or change rooms because someone might see my foreskin. Most public urinals were trough type. There was no expectation of privacy, so I went into the toilet stalls. But as I passed by the troughs I saw all the boy's penises at school and all the men's at the hockey rink and community centre. It seemed to me that the whole world was circumcised, even though I saw plenty evidence to the contrary, especially among my friends. But, I believed that having a foreskin was not normal and associated with being low-class. I assessed that the most athletic, or most popular or most intelligent boys in my friend group were cut. Of course, that was and remains a lie. But that is the fuck-up that was going through my head when I was in elementary and junior high school. Those who were intact felt like 'kin' to me, and I wondered how they managed this experience, whether they felt second class or inferior to the circumcised boys, like I did.

I had collected my own data-set to show that, among the boys in my peer group (and their brothers), the circumcision rate was probably about 60%. That was high enough to convince me that the boys whose parents chose not to cut them had done so because they were of lower status. I thought my family was of a lower status, and so I brought the uncircumcised kids' families on board with that perception--again, like they were kin to me. I can objectively look back at that now and understand that many of the intact boys families had roots in parts of the world where the practice is uncommon. But probably quite a few just didn't have circumcision as a practice in their family background. Simple as that. But it wasn't so simple in a little boy's mind that had been tuned to notice the differences and draw wild conclusions. The amount of space these unhelpful thoughts took up in my brain then...and into adulthood...was torturous. I've described it as being hyper-sexualized from a young age.

I so wish my dad had just left me alone--no cleaning rituals, no commentary. Just let me experience my penis for what it was and is: Normal, healthy, intact. Not an object for examination or contemplation outside of healthy relationships with sexual partners. Sigh.

My dad died 10 years ago, and I never spoke with him about this in adulthood. But I grew up believing that my father would have preferred I was circumcised. I remember asking him once as a child about why I wasn't circumcised. He said, "the doctor said it wasn't necessary". And that was it. I wouldn't be surprised if dad, conveying his misgivings, would have been told by the doctor that it wasn't necessary. But, clearly dad's answer to me was incomplete. I so wish he would have been honest with me about his experience. It would have made a world of difference in my life, going forward. His foreskin was pathologized as a 16 yo in the 1950's. He had a horrible, physically painful and psychologically traumatic, experience. I'm sure he experienced significant social discomfort about having it done. But hurt people can hurt other people. And the rest of the story (for other times and places) is that my hurt has subsequently hurt others, for which I have a lot of reconciling work to do.

To put it simply, I'm too tired to explain myself to those who didn't care enough to protect me. I have no more goals, my body is destroyed in nearly every avenue I can think of, I cannot begin to support myself, nor do I have a reason to. I simply lost meaning being this butchered from a normal life.

Discussion Does bio electrical engineering already work for tissue regeneration?

In a deleted post, someone mentioned that bio electric regeneration is being worked on at Tufts university to give hope to someone with severe skin bridges. It reminds me of a document I found online a long time ago, where the premise was essentially that by placing an anode that contains silver on the wound, a cathode on intact skin nearby, then applying the correct voltage, that the body would regenerate the tissue instead of leaving a scar. The document cited examples of people who followed this protocol with great success.

Obviously I don’t recommend cutting open your scar tissue and trying to replicate this study because of how risky it is, but I couldn’t help but wonder whether this qualifies as bio electrical engineering. https://patents.google.com/patent/US5814094A/en

Rant It’s taken over

It’s taken over literally every aspect of my life i can’t escape it. I can’t hear some music. I can’t watch TV show or even play a fucking video game without it coming up it’s like a truck every single fucking time I genuinely fucking hate it. I can’t live without this shit except me in some way.

I will never ever ever be that peace until the day I die and finally won’t have to deal with this shit. I can’t do anything like literally nothing without it coming up somehow, fuck it’s even ruined things that was looking forward to that aren’t even out yet like gta vi. It was been a week that apparently one of the main characters who’s male is intact. I genuinely wish this shit didn’t affect me this month but it’s disguise and I can’t get rid of it. I’m just being like this till the day I die unfortunately is not very soon. It’s just so painful. I hate it. I genuinely hate it. I can’t enjoy this thing anymore.

Grief It's coming back

I don't really know what to do with myself. I haven't really thought about circumcision in years; i sort of put it away and forced it down. Thinking about it made me so sad and hopeless.

As I grow older, I am losing more and more sensitivity. I think that soon I won't feel much at all. And it feels so strange. I can't help thinking about it. I thought this was normal for so long and now I can't stop thinking about it again.

I just don't know what to do. How do you live like this for the rest of your life? Years of knowing that a piece of you is gone?

I've looked into restoration, but I am suspicious. I don't know if it will work. And maybe now I'm too old for it to work. What am I even meant to do now?

Sorry for ranting I just been feeling awful and I kind of want some sort of assurance that things will be alright.
