Chess Question Weak
I knew I was going to lose, don’t get me wrong but IMO I find it weak to not just checkmate. They chased me for a while. Why bother? I guess because I refuse to resign?

If you're willing to continue the game, they have every right to do the same.

Why is that sad? he plays chess because he enjoy it, if he enjoy this game, why would he end the fun just because OP refuse to surrender.

It's not, I was making a point that there's no reason to complain, but I removed the one word that's not necessary.

FYI I’m not complaining. Personally as soon as as I can checkmate I do. I don’t see the point of dragging it out. That’s all.

if you don't resign then why complain

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining at all. There were just so many times to checkmate and they wouldn’t. I say just take the checkmate straightaway.

Yeah but if you know you lost than why not just resign? You both are basically doing the same thing.

You’re right to a point. Why risk time running out or making mistakes? IDK, I think it’s better to just take the checkmate.

I mean it is. But it’s also better for you to just resign once you know it’s over. Rethink the situation but this time switch places with your opponent and swap “checkmate” with “resign”. To me you are both basically mirroring eachother.

If you refuse to surrender on a straight losing end game with sufficient time still on the clock then yeah, we’re going to have a trip

I find it weaker to lose, which you did.

I’ve actually won a few games where they assume they’re going to win and start making mistakes. So I play until the end (most of the time).

You didn't get any better in those very few games you won. Might as well just open with Scholar's mate setup every game since we are relying on opponent making silly mistakes to win the games.

wayward queen is perfectly legitimate even if the opponent doesn't fall for the quick mate. Unprincipled? maybe. But so is the KID and you don't see nearly as many people complaining about it

Not the point.

u/Yadin__ 3h ago
But it is? I'm telling you that you can play the scholar's mate setup without relying on the opponent making silly mistakes. It's a sound opening

Reread my comment. You wouldn't score very high in the LSATs I think.

Okay. I reread it and it says:
Might as well just open with Scholar's mate setup every game since we are relying on opponent making silly mistakes to win the games
The scholar's mate setup isn't relying on the opponent making silly mistakes to win games. It's a sound opening that is completely fine even if the opponent doesn't make silly mistakes and falls for the mate
No idea why you're bringing LSATs into this lmao

Because it’s annoying to play vs someone who refuses to resign when the game is clearly over. It’s bad manners IMO and a waste of time. If my opponent does this, I always promote all my pawns, go afk for a few mins, come back and make a few random king move, wait until there’s one second left to give checkmate. If you don’t want to deal with this, then resign ten moves ago as you should.

Nah man no. I’ve won a few games by people making mistakes bc they’ve assumed they’ve won or the time runs.

Ive had a few instances where I was completely lost but my opponent mistakenly stalemated me

u/Proper-Swordfish7084 8h ago
Yes, this can happen in lower elo. But you’re playing hope chess - hoping your opponent makes a mistake. This attitude though I think holds a lot of players back where you should be focused on playing good moves instead of relying on your opponent making a mistake. It won’t happen if you ever get to a higher rating

I would like to mention that many games where I blunder too many times for my liking, I've also resigned (i.e. blundering during the opening, losing major pieces during the middle game)
